Objective To investigate the effects of 2 450 MHz microwave irradiation on the proliferation of cultured mouse fibroblasts in vitro, and the related gene and protein expressions. Methods Cells from mouse skin were directly radiated with microwaves of different intensities for different periods. The proliferation of fibroblasts was assayed by the MTT method, and the effects of microwave radiation on the fibroblast cell cycle were measured by flow eytometry. The mRNA expression of types Ⅰ and Ⅲ procollagen was detected by real-time RT-PCR. Anti-phosphoryl- ation extracellular-regulated kinase (ERK-1/2) antibody was introduced in immunofluorescence staining analysis to observe any changes in the phosphorylation of fibroblast protein ERK. Results ① 5 W/cm2 or 1.0 W/cm2 irradia- tion for 5 min, 15 min, or 30 min did not significantly decrease fibroblast proliferation, but irradiation at 5 W/cm2 for more than 5min caused a significant decrease in fibroblast proliferation. ②After 5 W/cm2 irradiation for 5 min, the percentage of cells in the G0/G1phase was significantly increased, and ERK was activated immediately after irradia- tion. ③The mRNA expression of type Ⅰ procollagen was down-regulated after microwave irradiation, and the magni- tude of the decreased expression correlated positively with the duration of irradiation. Thirty minutes of microwave ir- radiation at 1 W/cm2 or 5 minutes at 5 W/cm2 significantly down-regulated the mRNA expression of type Ⅰ procolla- gen and the ratio of types Ⅰ and Ⅲ. Conclusion High-intensity microwaves may inhibit the proliferation of fibro-blasts in a dose-dependent manner in vitro and down-regulate procollagen mRNA expression, which might be achieved by activating mitogen-activated protein kinase signal transduction gateways.

Two hundred and fifty patients with subclinical hypothyroidism ( SCH) and 120 euthyroid volunteers were recruited for the study, SCH patients were stratified into 2 groups according to TSH levels(group A:TSH<10 mIU/ L; group B: TSH>10 mIU/ L). All subjects were examined for clinical characteristics, thyroid profile, lipid profile, and biomarkers of early atherosclerosis. Patients in group B received L-thyroxine replacement treatment to achieve euthyroidism. After 6 months of stable euthyroidism all measurements were repeated. SCH patients had higher levels of total cholesterol(TC), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C), asymmetric dimethyl arginine (ADMA), carotid artery intima media thickness(CIMT), thromboxane B2(TXB2), and C-reactive protein(CRP) but with lower nitric oxide(NO) level compared with euthyroid subjects. Levels of TC, LDL-C, CIMT, TXB2, and ADMA decreased, and NO level increased significantly after 6 months of euthyroidism. TSH was positively correlated with TC, LDL-C, CIMT, ADMA, and TXB2; and negatively correlated with NO. Based on multivariate regression analysis, TSH was an independent influential factor of CIMT and NO. We conclude that raised TSH is an important risk factor of atherosclerosis in SCH.

Methods From 2012 to 2015, 80 children with cerebral palsy were called their parents with telephone and filled in the questionnaires. Results 69 children (85.25%) continued to receive rehabilitation, 11 children (13.75%) stopped rehabilitation. 42 children (56.25%) received education in ordinary schools, 15 children (18.75%) received education in special schools, 4 children (5.00%) were nursed in nursing institu-tion, 16 children (20.00%) stayed at home and did not receive any education. The main problem and needing at present were receiving reha-bilitation, receiving school education, relief the rehabilitation cost of more than one institution, etc. 61 children (76.25%) ever applied for as-sistive devices, 19 children (23.75%) did not. The feedback of application process in order were smoothly;applied, but didn't get;the assis-tive devices that received was inappropriate. 29 children (73.75%) needed assistive devices currently, 21 children (26.25%) did not. When asked the category of needed assistive devices at present, 19 parents (20%) answered that they did not know the category of assistive devices well or they did not know which kind of assistive devices they needed. Conclusion It is important to provide quality and quantity rehabilita-tion and education service, popularize the knowledge of assistive devices and their clinical application for cerebral palsy children. Assistive devices providing departments should do more communication with cerebral palsy children and their parents, in order to reduce the waste of resources, and increase the rational use of resources, and provide more benefits for children with disabilities.

Objective To explore weaning dependent patients off mechanical ventilation through rehabilitative treatment. Methods Eighty-four patients dependent on mechanical ventilation were randomly divided into a rehabilitation group (n =44) and a control group (n =40). All were treated with routine medication, but in addition patients in the rehabilitation program followed a rehabilitation program. Three weeks later, the success rates and the time of weaning off mechanical ventilation were observed in the two groups. Results In the rehabilitation group,88.6% of the patients were successfully weaned off mechanical ventilation, versus 60% of the control group. The respective average weaning times were 6.8 ± 3.8 days and 14.3 ± 5.2 days. Both differences were statistically significant. Conclusions Rehabilitative treatment improves the weaning success rate and reduces the time needed for weaning mechanical ventilation-dependent patients.

BACKGROUND:Failure rate is higher in patients with osteonecrosis of femoral head than in osteoarthritis patients after primary total hip arthroplasty, especial y acetabular prosthesis. Bone mineral density around the prosthesis is a key factor for quality of life of the prosthesis. OBJECTIVE:To observe the difference in periprosthetic bone mineral density between patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head and osteoarthritis patients and the exact location of differences after primary total hip arthroplasty. METHODS:Fifty patients with osteonecrosis of femoral head and fifty osteoarthritis patients were enrol ed in this study. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry examination was used to compare bone mineral density 5 years after total hip arthroplasty. In accordance with De Lee’s and Charnley’s methods, images of acetabulum were divided. The bone mineral density of different areas of the acetabulum was compared between the two groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) Periprosthetic bone mineral density:Bone mineral density in the lower part and upper part of the acetabulum was significantly lower in the osteonecrosis group than in the osteoarthritis group (P<0.05). No significant difference in bone mineral density in the middle of the acetabulum was detected between the two groups. (2) Results confirmed that the bone mineral density in the lower and the upper parts of the acetabular component was significantly lower in patients with osteonecrosis of femoral head than in patients with osteoarthritis.
