Objective To study the growth and development as well as reproductive capacity of CL Long Evans rats. Methods Eighty CL Long Evans rats(80 days old)were bred in a barrier system. A monogamous mating system is used to reproduce 5 litters. Their main indexes of growth and reproduction were determined. The body weight gain of 60 second litter rats were analyzed from day 20 to 100. Results The number and weight of the fetus, the weaning time weight per cote and per litter in the second litter were the highest, and the fifth litter was the lowest. The growth and development curve was the same as that announced by Taconic. Conclusion Long Evans rats have been confirmed suitable for continual reproduction for 4 litters and the second litter is the best one for mating.

Objective To investigate the effects of essential fatty acids(EFA)on the contents of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in the brain tissues of rats. Methods A total of 30 neonatal rats, 1 month old, were randomly divided into normal, EFA deficiency and fish oil supplement groups and given different feeding stuff for 3 months respectively. The contents of EPA and DHA in brain tissues were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Results As compared with normal group, the contents of EPA and DHA in EFA deficient group were significantly decreased(P

Objective To observe effects of artemisia argyi moxibustion therapy Yizhichan (one finger Zen) on sleep, attention ability and TCM constitution of athletes suffering chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS);To study the safety intervention model of CFS athletes. Methods Fifty-three cases of CFS athletes were divided into control group of 26 cases and trial group of 27 cases through random single-blind method. The control group was treated with passive gimmick massage relaxation process on waist and limbs. Based on this basic treatment, the trial group was treated with application of artemisia argyi moxibustion therapy Yizhichan. After 3 treatment course, the changes of SCL-90 scale, letter cancellation test, Pittsburgh sleep quality index scale (PSQI), and TCM constitution were observed. Results After treatment, SCL-90 scale, other two factor scores, time of letter cancellation test, PSQI sleep quality, falling sleep time, sleep time, sleep disorder, daytime dysfunction project factor scores of PSQI, and the peaceful constitution had statistical significance between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion Specific artemisia argyi moxibustion therapy Yizhichan and fumigation can safely and effectively treat athletes with CFS on physical health, attention level and sleep quality, which is beneficial for the exploration of traditional moxibustion methods.

Objective To investigate clinical manifestation of unspecified functional bowel disorder (UFBD), the features of coexistence with functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGID) and its relationship with psychological factors and sleep disturbance in the Chinese Army servicemen.Methodsc FGIDs were diagnosed based on the RomeⅢ Modular Questionnaire. The subjects were 189 servicemen with UFBD (UFBD group) and 372 without FGID (control group). All subjects completed symptom checklist 90 (SCL-90) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Results'Have to rush to the toilet when having a desire to defecate' was the most frequent symptom of UFBD (93.7%). More than one half of UFBD patients had the symptom 'a feeling of incomplete emptying as bowel movements' or 'straining during bowel movements'. Twenty-eight percent of UFBD subjects had combined FGID (namely cFGID). Among them, the most frequent was proctalgia fugax (7.9%), followed by cyclic vomiting syndrome (6.3%), functional fecal incontinence (6.3%), functional dyspepsia (4.8%) and belching (4.8%). The UFBD group scored significantly higher than the control group in the global severity index (GSI) and in all SCL-90 subscales (P<0.05). The scores of the four domains (sleep quality, sleep latency , sleep disturbance and daytime function disorder), total PSQI score and proportion of poor sleeping quality were significantly higher in the UFBD group than in the control group (P<0.05). The subjects scored significantly higher in combined FGID group than in UFBD group in GSI and in all of SCL-90 subscales, except for phobic anxiety subscales (P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in each domain, total PSQI and proportion of poor sleeping quality between the cFGID group and UFBD group (P>0.05).ConclusionPathogenesis of UFBD may be closely correlated with psychiatric and psychological factors and sleep disturbance. cFGID are associated with an increased severity of psychopathological features.
