Objective To investigate the possible effect of performing double-leg semi-squats with hip adduction on the imbalance between vastus lateralis (VL) and vastus medialis oblique (VMO) muscles of patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS).Methods Thirty patients with PFPS were selected to be in the study group,matched with 30 healthy subjects who were enrolled as the control group.Electromyography was used to record VL and VMO activities while the subjects performed double-leg semi-squats (DSs) and double-leg semi-squats with hip adduction (DSs-HA).Results In the study group,when performing DSs,the average RMS was (103.31 ± 44.54) μV and the IEMG was (8.02 ±3.45) μVs for VL.For VMO the RMS was (85.02 ±41.19) μV and the IEMG was (6.72 ±3.20) μVs.The differences in the time domain indexes (RMS,IEMG) between VL and VMO were both significant during DSs (P ＜ 0.05).There was no significant differences during DSs-HA (P ＞ 0.05).The time domain indexes (RMS,IEMG) of VMO were significantly different in both the DSs and DSs-HA (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions Stronger sEMG signals were seen from the VMO in the double-leg semi-squats with hip adduction than without hip adduction,which indicates that more selective VMO activation can be obtained in the exercise with hip adduction to help balance the VL and VMO.

There was no subspecialties differentiation such as physical therapy and occupational therapy of the rehabilitation therapy in most of institutions in China. The outstanding issues included teacher shortage, technological backwardness and imperfect practice education conditions of occupational therapy. The experience of cooperation was also introduced.

With the rapid progress of rehabilitation in China, how to construct the accreditation system of physical therapy (PT) education has become a critical consideration. This article introduced the background, role, management and process about the accreditation system of PT education in United States in order to promote the development of PT education in China.

Patients often suffered limb dysfunction after stroke. Upper limb and hand function recovered more slowly than lower limb, and became one of the research focuses in rehabilitation medicine. Timely and effective assessments were important to guide the rehabilitation treatment, evaluate the treatment efficacy and predict functional recovery of upper extremity and hand function. The assessment methods of upper limb and hand motor function included subjective evaluations and objective evaluations. The former included different kinds of scales, which involved assessment focusing on muscle, motor pattern, change of upper limb and hand function. While the latter contained biomechanics, neuroelectrophysiology, functional magnetic resonance imaging, upper limb robotic evaluation system and so on. Scales were proved to have good reliability and validity. But they could not show patients' function accurately because of the subjectivity, and the data could not be kept. Evaluation system with computer was applied in clinical practice more and more widely. In this review, we summarized the assessments on upper limb and hand motor function in patients after stroke.

Executive impairment is one of the common sequelae of stroke, which seriously affects the quality of life of patients. Repeti-tive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), as a new type of electrophysiological technique, has been used in the clinical treatment of Post-Stroke Executive Impairment (PSEI). This paper summarized the survey of PSEI, the basic principle and mechanism of rTMS, clinical application of rTMS for PSEI and its safety. Clinical studies showed that high frequency stimulation, low frequency stimulation, and combi-nation with other therapeutic methods were effective in PSEI. However, there was no unified theory about the mechanism and the best treat-ment plan of rTMS for PSEI.

Objective To study the effect of early rehabilitation on motor function of upper and lower extremities and activities of daily living(ADL) in hemiplegics after stroke.Methods96 patients were randomly divided into two groups, rehabilitation group(48 cases) and control group(48 cases). Prospective method was used in this study. Patients in the rehabilitation group were given clinical treatment and regularly rehabilitation training, while those in control group were given clinical treatment and unguided self training, and the evaluation was done in pre treatment and post treatment(68 weeks) respectively. Motor function was assessed in Brunnstrom Grade, ADL assessed in Barthel Index. Results The motor scores (measured by Brunnstrom criteria) and ADL scores (measured by Barthel Index) in the two groups rised after 68 weeks treatment, but there was a significant difference between the two groups,i.e., the scores in the rehabilitation group were obviously superior to those in the control group(P<0.01). ConclusionEarly rehabilitation training on hemiplegics after stroke may obviously improve motor function of the limbs and rise ADL scores.

Objective To investigate the changes of surface electromyographic signal during lumbar flexion-extension after sling exercise therapy (SET) in patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP). Methods 30 patients with CNLBP received SET, 3 times a week for 4 weeks. The surface electromyographic signals of erector spinae and multifidus of both sides were collected, when they were in erect position, flexion motion, maximum voluntary flexion, and back to erect position, before and after intervention. The average electromyogram (AEMG) was analyzed, and the flexion-relaxion ratio (FRR) was compared. Results The FRRs of both erector spinae and multifidus were lower in the painful side than in the healthy side before intervention (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the FRRs of both erector spinae and multifidus between 2 sides after intervention. Conclusion SET may improve the active motion function of the erector spinae and multifidus of the painful side and recovery of flexion-relaxation phenomenon.

It was discussed about the way of teaching base construction and teachers training for the rehabilitation therapy, including the self-training, domestic and international studies, cooperation with Taiwan Chung Shan Medical University and the first-level hospitals in Guangdong. It resulted in the improvement of the levels of education and academic title of the teathers, and development of teaching bases.

Objective To test reliability and validity of a verbal behavior assessment scale (VerBAS). Methods The VerBAS was used to evaluate 20 patients with speech disorder repeatedly by the same investigator with a two week interval to assess its reliability. The construct validity of the VerBAS was evaluated by using it to evaluate 235 patients with speech disorder. Results The test-retest correlation coefficient γ was 0.723,which was significant at the 5% confidence level. Cronbach'a a=0.819. Three distinct factors were identified: receptive speech,communicative speech and delineative speech;and their accumulated variance contribution was 83%. Conclusion The Verbal Behavior Assessment Scale had satisfactory reliability and validity, It can be used to evaluate the patients with speech disorder and could provide a reference for speech rehabilitation training.

Objective To observe the effect of virtual reality robotic hand on hand motor function and activities of daily living of pa-tients after stroke. Methods From June, 2015 to June, 2016, 32 patients with hand motor dysfunction were assigned into experimental group (n=16) and control group (n=16). The experimental group received training with virtual reality robotic hand and hand based rehabilitation, while the control group received hand based rehabilitation only, for four weeks. They were evaluated with Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) of fingers and wrists and modified Barthel index (MBI) before and after treatment. Results The total score and the scores of items of FMA and MBI improved after treatment in the experimental group (Z>3.45 or t>3.45, P<0.01). The total score and the scores of the finger, wrist of FMA, and the scores of the eating, dressing and grooming of MBI improved in the control group (Z>2.07 or t>4.18, P<0.05). The total scores and scores of the items of FMA and MBI improved more in the experimental group than in the control group (Z>2.14 or t>3.20, P<0.05). Conclusion Virtual reality robotic hand training can promote the recovery of hand function and activities of daily living in patients af-ter stroke.
