Objective The clinicopathological analysis of eight patients with lipid storage myopathy are presented. The pathogeny and therapeutic effect are probed into. Methods Eight cases of lipid storage myopathy diagnosed by muscle biopsies with microscopic and electron-microscopic examination are analyzed. Quadriceps or biceps were biopsied. Muscle samples were stained with routine histology and histochemical enzyme and inspected by microscopy. Thin sections were stained with uranyl acetate followed by lead citrate prior to examination in a electron microscopy. Also, the therapeutic drugs of eight patients were evaluated. Results Vacuole or crack of muscular fibers involved all eight patients. Sudan Black B and Oil Red O stains demonstrated increase of lipid droplets within muscle fibers. Ultrastructural examination revealed numerous lipid droplets dispersed throughout the residual myofilaments. Three cases with pathologic changed muscular fibers occupying less than 1/5 were belong to low-grade, two cases (between 1/5 to 1/3) were moderate, three cases (more than 1/2) were severe. There was one case accompanying glycogen storage disease. One case was concomitant with deficiency of cytochrome C oxidase. After prednisone treatment, seven cases had greatly improved and one case failed to respond to. Treatment using vitamin B2 together with other vitamins brought about a striking effect. Carnitine was very effective on the patients with system deficiency of carnitine. Conclusions The pathogeny of lipid storage myopathy is varied. The confirmed diagnosis is depend on pathological features of muscle biopsy. Treatment with prednisone, carnitine, vitamins and food containing carnitine rich is very effective. It should be select the special treatment method if the pathogeny is clear.

Objective To investigate the clinical and neuroimage characteristics of reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome (RPLS) in Chinese elderly patients. Methods The characteristic clinical presentation and neuroimaging of 5 elderly patients with RPLS were retrospectively analyzed. Results There were one male and four females in this study, with the average age of (63.0±2.4) years, all combined with hypertension. The most common clinical presentations were abnormality of visual perception (5 cases), headache (4 cases), epileptic seizure (4 cases), disturbance of consciousness (3 cases), pathological reflex (2 cases) and hemiplegia (2 cases). CT scan showed 4 cases with low density lesions. MR1 scan showed 5 cases with occipital lobe lesions, 2 with parietal lobe lesions and 1 with temporal lobe lesions. Re-examination of CT scans showed that 4 survived patients became normal at mean (48.8±29.2) days after discharging from hospital. Conclusions The etiologies of RPLS are diverse. The vasogenic theory is supported by neuroimage of RPLS. Neuroimage may be very important for the diagnosis of RPLS. Diffusion-weighted imaging and apparent diffusion coefficient map may be helpful for differential diagnosis between RPLS and cerebral infarct.

Objective To explore a practical teaching curriculum system which effectively improved the humanities quality in traditional Chinese medical science (TCM) among nursing students. Methods The periods at school of students were divided into three stages. This study formulated the goals of nursing practice and development of TCM's humanity along with constructed the practical teaching curriculum system fused TCM humanistic characteristic for nursing students according to the characteristics in each stage. Results The the practical teaching curriculum system fused TCM humanistic characteristic for nursing students could enhance the quality of classroom teaching and the overall teaching effects. It could also improve the professional competence of students and humanities quality of TCM and help to promote the integration of nursing practical teaching and clinic. Conclusions The practical teaching curriculum system fused TCM humanistic characteristic for nursing students is an effective measure to improve the humanistic quality training of nursing students.

Objective:To explore the effect of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education in the teaching of Comprehensive Nursing Practice course, which is integrated with the concept of social work. Methods:The course of Comprehensive Nursing Practice integrated with the concept of social work was constructed, and two classes of Batch 2019 nursing undergraduates in our university were selected as the research objects, including 46 students in the control group which took traditional teaching, and the other 43 students in the research group which took STEM teaching. Both groups were taught for 2 months (28 class hours). The teaching process, teaching summary and teaching satisfaction of the two groups were evaluated. SPSS 25.0 was used for t-test, Chi-square test and rank-sum test. Results:The scores of STEM literacy, practical ability, inquiry consciousness, learning condition, participation and enthusiasm in the research group were higher than those in the control group ( P < 0.05). After teaching, the scores of problem-solving ability, work display and theoretical knowledge of the research group were higher than those of the control group ( P<0.05). The students in the research group were more satisfied with teaching than those in the control group ( P<0.05). Conclusion:The construction of Comprehensive Nursing Practice course with the concept of social work and the application of STEM education can improve students' learning ability, learning effect and their satisfaction with the course teaching.
