In the field of surgery, there are a large number of studies in progress for more minimally invasive surgery and cosmetic improvements. Among these studies, NOTES (natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery) and single-port laparoscopic surgery are the 2 studies attracting the most attention. Single-port laparoscopic surgery is a procedure where laparoscopic surgery is performed through a single incision at the umbilicus or another region. Until now, many kinds of surgeries were performed by single-port laparoscopy. In this article, the authors attempt to explain the procedures of single-port laparoscopic appendectomy in detail based on our experiences.

Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;510(4):61-64
Retrospective and cross-sectional study on 60 patients with cosmetic allergy treated at Department of Allergology – Clinical Immunology and National Institute of Dermatology and Venerology in Bach Mai Hospital between January 1992 and February 2004. Results: there are plentiful and diversified cosmetics caused allergic reactions with 30 types divided into 6 groups: skin care cream (33.3%), dye hair (20.0%), powder foundation, toilet soap, other creams (21.7%), and other cosmetics. Allergic reactions commonly occurred in females, with common clinical symptoms such as itching, erythema, prurigo, vesicle, infected vesicle, edema, etc. They were treated by corticosteroid, anti-histamine H1, antibiotics, solution infusion, vitamin and other drugs. There was no death or more serious allergic reactions.

4.Review Article Fingertip Replantation.
Journal of the Korean Microsurgical Society 2011;20(2):132-138
Although finger tip replantation is popularized nowadays, it is not easy operations even for experienced surgeons. The indication for replantation to treat fingetip amputation is still controversial, but I think replantation for function and cosmetic absolute indication. This paper will discuss about methods of fingertip replantation and unexpected complications on soft tissue after operation.

The use of cosmetics in the crowd has the long-term characteristics. The adverse reactions of cosmetics reported in other country in the world suggest that human patch tests and short-term human using test may not be sufficient to evaluate the safety of high-risk new cosmetic raw ingredients, and long-term human using test should be conducted for evaluation. Therefore, this article reviews the key factors that affect long-term human trial trials, such as site of use, single-use amount, frequency of use, duration of use, and subject conditions, providing supportive evidence for standardized safety evaluation standards for long-term human using test of cosmetics.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 2008;46(7):990-992
Milia en plaque (MEP) is an unusual and rare variant of milia characterized by tiny papules overlying an erythematous plaque. The majority of cases have been described as occurring around the ears. The histopathologic finding is consistent with milia. Despite its benign nature and lack of symptoms, MEP raises cosmetic concerns. We report a case of MEP occurring on the left 3rd finger, an unusual location, in a 2-year-old girl.

Annals of Dermatology 2011;23(2):229-231
Desmoplastic trichoepithelioma is a rare benign adnexal tumor. Although it is a benign lesion, patients often want to treat it due to cosmetic concerns when it occurs in an easily visible site. For our two cases, topical 5% imiquimod was an attractive treatment option as it is applied by the patients themselves and it has minimal side effects, including leaving no scar. However, the lesions recurred after clinical remission. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only report on utilizing imiquimod to treat a benign adnexal tumor, and especially desmoplastic trichoepithelioma.

Journal of Korean Foot and Ankle Society 2012;16(3):181-189
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare and analyse the clinical outcomes of minimal incision repair and open repair in ruptured Achilles tendon. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the outcomes of 10 patients with minimal incision repair (group 1) and 19 patients with open repair (group 2) from February 2007 to June 2011. The postoperative clinical evaluations were done by Arner-Lindholm scale, AOFAS score, overall patient's satisfaction and cosmetic satisfaction of scar. RESULTS: There was no statistical difference between two groups in Arner-Lindholm scale, AOFAS score, overall patient's satisfaction (p=1.21, 0.87, 1.07). There was statistically high rate of cosmetic satisfaction in group 1(p<0.001). There were no complications in group 1. Complications occurred in three patients (deep infection, rerupture, deep vein thrombosis) of group 2. CONCLUSION: Treatment of minimal incision repair in Achilles's tendon ruptures showed high rate of cosmetic satisfaction and low rate of complication's, but there were no significant differences with open repair in other clinical outcomes. The minimal incision repair could be recommended as one of the effective treatment for the Achilles's tendon ruptures.

Laboratory Animal Research 2010;26(1):31-36
This study is designed to apply for cosmeceutical ingredients with Sanguisorba officinalis and Stichopus japonicus distributed all over the country. The antioxidizing effect of the ethanol extract of Stichopus japonicus displayed stronger inhibition than the Sanguisorba officinalis ethanol extract and mixture of Sanguisorba officinalis and Stichopus japonicus extract. They used in the experiment as 63.28% with the density of 50 microgram/mL, and compared with the ascorbic acid used as positive counterpart. Since the physiological activating ingredient generating the antioxidizing effect was confirmed with the Sanguisorba officinalis and Stichopus japonicus with the experiment results, the possibility for natural antioxidants was implied.
