We report six cases with honton disease successfully treated with a combination of goshuyuto extract and ryokeijutsukanto extract. Five of the cases were diagnosed as panic disorder, and the remaining case as generalized anxiety disorder. All six cases complained of palpitation, nausea, dizziness, headache and anxiety attacks. We diagnosed them as a hontonto (Zhouhou fang) indication. Their various complaints disappeared after combination therapy with those extracts. Furthermore, efficacy of the combination therapy was proven to be equal to hontonto. These cases suggest that the combination therapy with goshuyuto extract and ryokeijutsukanto extract is useful in place of hontonto.

The rapid increase of obesity nationwide and worldwide has threatened human health and caused the increase of metabolic diseases and the changes of disease spectrum. Its co-morbidities, mortality, and relevant socio-economic issues have became global concerns. Integrated multidisciplinary treatment modalities have emerged in recent years. For severely obese patients body mass index (BMI>40 kg/m(2) or obese patients (BMI 35 - 40 kg/m(2)) with co-morbidities such as severe diabetes, obesity-associated cardiac lesions, severe sleep apnea, infertility, and osteoarthritis that affect the daily life, minimally invasive laparoscopic bariatric surgery (such as Lap Banding) can achieve satisfactory results by reducing body weight in long term, treating or preventing the co-morbidities, and ultimately decreasing mortality. Multidisciplinary treatment modalities for tumors, obesity, and other diseases have been widely adopted. This strategy may play increasingly important roles in improving the treatment effectiveness, upgrading healthcare services, and addressing interdisciplinary problems.

The prevalence of esophageal cancer in China is significant. Surgery remains to be the mainstay treatment for esophageal cancer. Standardized surgical procedure and radical lymph node dissection is the base of multimodality treatment, which is also related to the success of the treatment and prognosis. At present, synchronized preoperative chemoradiation is recommended for operable esophageal cancer. Use of preoperative radiation is not associated with increased difficulty in performing surgery or increased complications. Preoperative chemotherapy alone is not recommended. NCCN recommends 5-fluorouracil-based adjuvant therapy administered synchronously with radiation. In China, postoperative synchronized chemoradiation is recommended for II(B-III) esophageal cancer. Large-scale, multi-center, prospective controlled clinical trials are warranted to determine the optimal combination of therapeutic alternatives to benefit patients the most.

The treatment of maxillary cancer has been commonly performed by the surgery and radiation therapy, alone or in combination. Multimodal treatment has been introduced with improvement of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Multimodal treatment for the maxillary cancer is composed of surgery, radiation therapy, and regional intra-arterial chemotherapy. The present study was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the multimodal treatment with Morita's method, with a slight modification, for the maxillary cancer. Twenty-four cases of the maxillary cancer were analyzed. The multimodal treatment increased the 5-year-survival rate up to 66% and reduced the need for maxillectomy. This method made the morphological and funtional preservation possible. This method may be recommended for the treatment of maxillary cancer.

Accurate preoperative staging is imperative in the treatment of gastric cancer since diseases in different stages mandate different management strategies. Multi-disciplinary therapy is important for gastric cancer. Endoscopic treatment has become the preferred treatment for patients with early gastric cancer. However, only when multiple disciplines is involved in the decision-making process, appropriate patients can be selected and benefit from the minimally invasive treatment. In China, 90% of gastric cancers are at advanced stage at diagnosis, which are associated with worse prognosis compared to early gastric cancer. The optimal treatment depends on the multi-disciplinary therapy including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and molecular targeted therapy.
