Objective To study the effect and mechanism of polypeptide from Chlamys farreri(PCF) on the thymocytes damaged by 60Co γ-rays. Methods The ceils were randomly divided into six groups: control group, 60Co groups (2 Gy, model),60Co + 0.5% PCF, 60Co+ 0.25% PCF, 60Co + 0.125% PCF, 60Co +0.1% VitC. The concentration of GSH-Px, ROS, A-SAC, T-AOC and the cells' viability were determined. The mitochondria membrane potential were tested. The expressions of P53, Bax and Bel-2 proteins were examined. Results The activities f GSH-Px, A-SAC, T-AOC in cells were enhanced, and the amounts of ROS were decreased by PCF. The expression of Bcl-2 gene was up-regulated, and down-regulated for the expression of P53 and Bax. All observed indexes of the PCF groups were significantly different compared with model group (P <0.05). Conclusions PCF has the protective effects on damages of thymocytes caused by 60Co irradiation. The mechanisms might be related to inhibiting of lymphocyte apoptosis and enhancing the activities of lymphocytes.

We have studied the inhibitory effect of polysaccharides mixture on Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma (EAC), Sarcoma 180 (S180), reticulocytic leukemia (L615) in mice. It is found that polysaccharides mixture could obviously prolong the survival duration of mice suffering from tumour and inhibit neoplastic proliferation. Thymus and adrenal glands atrophy in mice caused by vaccination of cancer cells was also remarkably resisted. The results of our experiments show that polysaccharides mixture is a safe, effective and promising pharmaceutic preparation of traditional Chinese medicine. It deserves to be further studied and developed.

BACKGROUND: Presently, it is a certain preventive effect of local emplacement of various isolated materials during operation and postoperatively drug-controlled inflammatory reaction on adhesion between epidural and nerve root after laminectomy.OBJECTIVE: To study the preventive effect of chitosan and titanium net on epidural cicatricle adhesion after laminectomy.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Randomized controlled animal study, which was performed in Guiyang Medical College from June to December 2005.MATERIALS: Eighty adult rabbits, weighing (2.0±0.2) kg, were used to establish vertebral plate resection models. Chitosan was provided by Shanghai Qisheng Biological Agent Industry Company, and titanium net by Guizhou Kelun Pharmacology Company Limited.METHODS: Eighty adult rabbits were randomly divided into four groups, including control group (0.5 mL saline), titanium net group (titanium net in the size of 1.0 cm × 0.8 cm was covered on defect region of vertebral plate and fixed on processus spinosus of upper and lower cone, bilateral muscles and soft tissues), chitosan group (2 mL chitosan), and chitosan + titanium net group (combination of chitosan and titanium net). Six rabbits were sacrificed in the 2nd and 4th weeks postoperatively, and eight rabbits were chosen as the samples in the 8th week.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Morphological changes of cicatricle.RESULTS: Cicatricle was clearer in the control group. Titanium net could relieve peripheral cicatricle of dura mater and effectively isolate peripheral cicatricial tissue and spinal dura meter. Chitosan could remarkably prevent from cicatricle adhesion and inhibit inflammatory reaction. The combination of chitosan and titanium net could effectively inhibit proliferation of cicatricle surrounding dura meter.CONCLUSION: Association of chitosan and titanium net can effectively inhibit cicatricle adhesion surrounding dura meter after laminectomy.

60 kg) was given to all the patients 1-3 days after their operation. The pacing threshold and the amplitude of P and R waves on cardiograph were measured before injection and at 10,30,90,180 minutes afterwards. Results No significant changes were oburved in pacing threshold and the amplitade of P and R waves before and after the injection of metoprolol in patients with either newly implanted or replacement of permanent pacemakers. Conclusion Metoprolol tartrate has no effect on atrial and ventricular pacing threshold and the amplitude of P and R waves in patients with permanent pacemakers implantation.

Objective To investigate the mechanism of the protective effects induced by intrathecally remote morphine preconditioning (RMPC) against myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats.Method Male SD rats weighing 280 ~ 320 g were used in this study. A needle was inserted through a surgically created hole into the spinal cord space. Sixty male SD rats, in which intrathecal needle was successfully placed without complication, were randomly (random number) divided into 10 groups of 6 animals each. In group Ⅰ myocardial I/R was produced (I/R). In group Ⅱ morphine was given intrathecally in 3 repeated doses of 1 μg/kg at 5 mtn intervals before ischemia (RMPC). Antagonists CGRP8-37 (CGRP receptor antagonist), 8-SPT (adenosine receptor antagonist), HOE-140 (bradykinin B2 receptor antagonist) and HEX (autonomic nerve antagonist) were given intrathecally in group Ⅲ , Ⅳ, Ⅴ and Ⅳrespectively at 10 min before RMPC. In group Ⅶ, Ⅷ, Ⅸ and X CGRP8-37, 8-SPT, HOE-140 and HEX were given intrathecally respectively at 40 min before ischemia. Myocardial I/R was produced by occlusion of left anterior descending branch (LAD) of coronary artery for 30 min followed by 120 min reperfusion. At the baseline and the end of 120 min reperfusion venous blood samples were taken for determination of LDH activity. The animals were then killed and hearts removed for measurement of area at risk (AAR) and infarct size area (IS). IS/AAR was calculated. Results The size of infarct area was smaller and IS/AAR ratio lower and significantly less LDH was released at the time of 120 min reperfusion in RMPC group (group Ⅱ) than in group I/R (group Ⅰ). The protective effects of RMPC was abolished by intravenously pretreatment with CGRP8-37, 8-SPT,HOE-140 and HEX. Conclusions CGRP, adenosine, bradykinin and autonomic nerve are involved in the protective effects of intrathecally remote morphine preconditioning against myocardial I/R injury.

Objective To discuss the therapeutic options for treatment of subaxial cervical dislocation combined with facet locking. Methods There were 49 patients with cervical dislocations including 7 patients with dislocation at C3,4, 15 at C4,5, 14 at C5,6 and 13 at C6,7. Eleven patients were with old dislocation, with duration of dislocation ranging from 2 hours to 61 days. Neurologic status of the patients according to Frankel scale was graded A in 14 patients, grade B in nine, grade C in 10 and grade D in nine. All patients were treated surgically after closed reduction with skull traction. Results The successful reduction rate was 63% for fresh dislocation, with average improvement of 0.65 grade for spinal cord function. All bone grafts got fusion at four months after operation. Conclusion Therapeutic options are based on fresh or old dislocations, paraplegia or not, intervertebral disk injury severity, and reduction or not through traction for patients with lower cervical dislocations.
