Objective To introduce an optimal incision technique in the endourethral surgery for urethratresia. Methods Sixteen patients suffering from urethratresia were managed by endourethral surgery,2 of them treated with rotator incision and the other 14 with rotator incision plus transurethral scar electrosectomy. The efficacy of the treatment was evaluated by Qmax. Results Successful incisions were achieved in all patients, the duration of procedure being from 18 to 33 min, with a mean of 25 min.Two patients with rotator incision had dysuria (Qmax 9 and 7 ml/s) after the surgery and accepted transurethral resection of scar again. The other 14 patients with rotator incision plus transurethral scar electrosectomy had good voiding.Qmax was more than 16 ml/s in all patients after operation. Conclusions Rotator incision is a safe, simple, efficacious incision technique in the endourethral surgery for urethratresia, and scar electrosectomy is essential for successsful outcome.

Objective To explore the association between complement C3 and the prevalence of simple fatty liver disease and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Methods A total of 2 799 health check-up participants were recruited from Tianjin Medical University General Hospital-Health Management Centre. Serum C3 levels were measured using immunoturbidimetry method and simple fatty liver disease and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis were diagnosed by liver ultrasonography and serum alanine aminotransferase concentration. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between quartiles of serum C3 levels and the prevalence of simple fatty liver disease and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Results After adjusting for covariates, the odds ratios (95% confidence interval) of simple fatty liver disease and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis for increasing quartiles of C3 were: 1.00 (reference), 2.15 (1.55, 3.01), 3.28 (2.35, 4.6) and 4.31 (3.11, 6.02); and 1.00 (reference), 4.54 (1.68, 15.91), 7.81 (3.02, 26.67) and 14.91 (5.94, 50.14) (both P for trend<0.000 1), respectively. Conclusions The study found that the elevated C3 levels were significantly associated with the prevalence of simple fatty liver disease and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. Further study is needed to clarify whether C3 has a predictive value for the occurrence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Objective To access the left ventricular sysytolic function in children at acute stage of Kawasaki disease using speckle-tracing imaging. Methods Two-dimensional echocardiograghic images of 27 patients and 19 normals were collected in apical long-axis view, two-champer view, four-champer view, short-axis views at the levels of mitral annulus, papillary muscle and apex. The systolic peak values of longitudinal strain, radial strain and circumferential strain were measured by speckle-tracking imaging. Results Compared with controls the values of longitudinal strain and radial strain are lower in most segments in patients(P < 0.05). There were no significant differences between the patients and controls in circumferential strain(P>0.05). Longitudinal strain and radial strain measured were lower in 8 patients with coronary ectasia(including 7 cass with coronary artery aneurysms in vessels) than other 19 patients, but the two groups have no significant differences(P>0.05). Conclusions Long-axis and short-axis function of the heart decreased regardless of coronary artery ectasia.

Speckle tracking imaging (STI) was employed to investigate the effect of right ventricular (RV) volume and pressure overload on left ventricular (LV) rotation and twist in 35 patients with atrial septal defect (ASD), 18 of which with pulmonary hypertension, and 21 healthy subjects serving as controls. The peak rotations of 6 segments at the basal and apical short-axises and the average peak rotation and interval time of the 6 segments in the opposite direction during early systolic phase were measured respectively. LV twist versus time profile was drawn and the peak twist and time to peak twist were calculated. LV ejection fraction (EF) was measured by Biplane Simpson. Compared to ASD patients without pulmonary hypertension and healthy subjects, the peak rotations of posterior, inferior and postsept walls at the basal level were lower (P<0.05), and the average counterclockwise peak rotation of 6 segments at the basal level during early systolic phase was higher (P<0.05), and the average interval time was delayed (P<0.05). LV peak twist was also lower (P<0.05), and had a significant negative correlation with pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (r=-0.57, P=0.001). No significant differences were found in LVEF among the three groups. It was suggested that although RV volume overload due to ASD has no significant effects on LV rotation and twist, LV peak twist is lower in ASD patients with pulmonary hypertension. Thus LV twist may serve as a new indicator of the presence of pulmonary hypertension in ASD patients.

Journal of China Pharmaceutical University 2022;53(1):93-98
Eubhorbia neriifolia L. is a plant of Euphorbia family.Five known lignans were isolated from the aerial parts of E. neriifolia L. by silica gel for column chromatography and preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).Their potential antitumor activities were evaluated in vitro.Compound 2 exhibited proliferation inhibition and cytotoxicity against esophageal squamous cancer cells, especially KYSE-410 and KYSE-450 cells.Further analyses showed that compound 2 could significantly induce apoptosis through the activation of caspase 3/9 and down-regulation of the Bcl-2/Bax protein ratio. These results suggested that compound 2 had a significant inhibitory effect on the esophageal squamous cancer cells, especially KYSE-410, which deserves further research as a potential antitumor agent.
