Journal of Preventive Medicine 2021;33(2):130-134
Objective:
To observe the changes of liver metabolism in mice exposed to artificial light at night.
Methods:
Healthy male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into the light at night group and the control group, with 8 mice in each group. The daily light/dark cycle was 12/12 hours in the control group, and 24/0 hours in the light at night group for 10 consecutive days. The hepatic metabolite profiles of the two groups of mice were detected by high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The modelling was assessed by combining principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis ( OPLS-DA ) , The changes of metabolites in the two groups were compared through KEGG database.
Results:
Compared with the control group, 9 different metabolites were detected in the light at night group, among which the down-regulated metabolites were glycine-betaine, glutathione, tyrosine, betaine, lysine, hypoxanthine, histidine and methionine, and the up-regulated ones were mannose-6-phosphate. The weight analysis of the metabolic pathways showed that the major influences on liver of light at night group were phenylalanine-tyrosine-tryptophan metabolism, tyrosine metabolism, fructose and mannose metabolism, cysteine and methionine metabolism and histidine metabolism.
Conclusion
The metabolism of various amino acids and sugars in light at night mice is disturbed, and the key differential metabolites are tyrosine, methionine, histidine and mannose-6-phosphate.

Selection and affinities of Cd binding peptides were assayed by phage random dodecapeptide library and affinity chromatography. Two Cd binding peptides were obtained, it was found that the affinities of Cu~ 2+ ,Co~ 2+ ,Zn~ 2+ ,Ni~ 2+ for Cd binding peptides were higher than that of Cd~ 2+ and Cr~ 2+ after detection of the amplified Cd binding peptides displayed phages to different heavy metal-charged resins; the detoxification of E.coli to Ni~ 2+ and Cd~ 2+ was enhanced when infected by Cd binding peptide displayed phages as compared with those of the control. The interaction of Cd binding peptide displayed phages with heavy metals charged resins was also observed under microscope. The work would be of great value and consequences for the study of interaction between heavy metals and proteins(peptides), as well as thedetoxification and bioremediation of heavy metals.

Twenty Newcastle disease virus(NDV)strains were isolated from diseased chicken and geese in field outbreaks during 2005 and 2006 in some regions of Jiangsu and Guangxi, and the antigenic analysis of the all NDV isolates had been done based on the reaction spectrum with a panel of monoclonal antibodies to the HN glycoprotein. The entire ORFs encoding HN protein of these NDV isolates were amplified by RT-PCR successfully, cloned and sequenced. The resultant sequences of HN genes of 13 isolates of chicken origin and 7 isolates of goose origin were gained and analyzed. The results of reaction spectrum showed that there were some distinct differences in the antigenic epitopes among the 20 NDV isolates. And the sequences revealed that the coding regions of the HN genes of these isolates all consisted of 1716 nt characteristic of virulent strains of NDV,coding for 571 amino acids.Neucleotides sequence homology were found to be from 94.8%to 100%among 18 NDV isolates of genotypeⅦ,and the neucleotides sequence homology between all the isolates and the other genotypeⅦstrains of recent years in China ranged from 92.1%to 99.6%.The deduced amino acid sequences and the receptor-binding regions of HN proteins between the NDV isolates of chicken origin and of goose origin were compared and analyzed. The results showed that some unique amino acid substitutions were found in the genome of the NDV isolates, and the close genetic similarity provided evidence for epidemiological linkage between the NDV isolates of chicken origin and of goose origin in the same period.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of Chinese medicine (CM) comprehensive regimen as the maintenance therapy (MT) on time to progression (TTP) and quality of life (QOL) of patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
METHODSThe study was a prospective, randomized and controlled clinical trial. Fifty non-progressive patients with advanced NSCLC who responded to first-line therapy were randomized into the test group (25 cases, treated with CM comprehensive regimen: intravenous dripping of Chinese herbal preparation, oral administration of Chinese herbal decoction, and point application) and the control group [25 cases, treated with one of three single-agent maintenance chemotherapy regimens: pemetrexed (500 mg/m2, day 1), docetaxel (75 mg/m2, day 1), and gemcitabine (1000 mg/mi, day 1 and day 8) in the ratio of 1:1]. Each cycle consisted of 21 days. Cycles were repeated until the disease progressed, or intolerable toxic or adverse reaction occurred, or patients refused to continue the treatment. The primary end point was TTP and the secondary end point was QOL. QOL was evaluated using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer quality-of-life questionnaire QLQ-LC43 (EORTC QLQ-LC43). TTP of fifty patients and QOL of 43 patients had been statistically analyzed.
RESULTS(1) The TTP in the test group was prolonged for 23 days when compared with that of the control group, with insignificant difference (87 days vs 64 days, P=0.063). (2) The scores of domains in EORTC QLQ-LC43 were statistically significantly better in the test group than in the control group (P<0.05) except cognitive and social functions, the symptoms of dysphagia and pain in other parts.
CONCLUSIONS(1) The CM comprehensive regimen as MT had equivalent efficacy on TTP when compared with single-agent maintenance chemotherapy regimen. It was advantageous over improving the QOL. (2) It is necessary to enlarge the sample size to further confirm the therapeutic efficacy of CM comprehensive regimen as MT in treatment of patients with advanced NSCLC.
