Anopheles dirus was fed with the mice of Kunming strain infected by plas-modium yoelii yoelii (By265 strain) for three or four days. Then the midgut and the salivary glands of the mosquitoes were examined. It was found that the infection rate of the malaria parasite of the midgut was 78.57% (44/56), but that of the salivary glands was only 4.88% (2/41) . After two passages of the malaria parasite through the mice and the mosquitoes, the infection rate of the salivery glands could be increased up to 13.96% (6/43).

Anopheles dims Peyton et Harrison, 1979 is an important malaria vector in Southeast Asia and China particularly in forested hilly zones. To establisha a laboratory mating colony for this mosquito is one of the subjects to be solved urgently in malaria research. This paper is to report our experience on breeding this mosquito. Ecological environment is created to simulate the natural conditions. The room-temperature of the insectary is 25?-28℃ and its relative humidity is around 80%.Mosquitoes are kept in cages with the si2e of 50 ? 50 ? 100cm. The larvae are fed with a mixture of de-fatted pig liver powder and yeast with a ratio of 1:3. The adults are fed with a mixture syrup containing 4% of orange juice, 10% of sucrose and other materials. The insectary is illuminated with a 3o w fluorescent light in the day time and a 15 w blue light in the night continuously to induce mating. The mating rate of the fourteenth generation reached 68% and the descendants bred can be used in research work now.

OBJECTIVETo compare the tubulogenesis capability of malignant glioma-derived microvessel endothelial cells (GDMEC) from human brain with that of ECV304 cells in a three dimentional model and to explore the significance of GDMEC in the study on angiogenesis.
METHODSThe GDMEC were isolated from malignant gliomas of human brain and purified by selective binding to the monoclonal antibody against CD105 bound to the magnetic MACS MicroBeads. GDMEC and endothelial-like cell line ECV304 were compared with their capabilities of formatting tubule-like structure (TLS) in the three dimentional collagen matrix, with or without inducement by various concentration of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
RESULTSThe obtained GDMEC had a high purification (98%) and could be successfully cultured in vitro. GDMECs formed more TLS than ECV304 cells of the same number and at the same time points. VEGF could induce rapid formation of TLS in a dose-dependent manner, however, ECV304 cells were less response to VEGF stimulation.
CONCLUSIONSGDMEC could maintain their endothelial characteristics and potential capability of angiogenesis. They were more response to VEGF than ECV304, therefore, more suitable for in vitro studies on tumor angiogenesis.

Objective: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at different time points during the perioperative period on the recovery of gastrointestinal function after gastrointestinal malignant neoplasms surgery. Methods: Sixty-three patients who needed radical surgery for gastrointestinal tumors were randomized into a control group, treatment group 1 (postoperative EA group), and treatment group 2 (intraoperative and postoperative EA group). The control group received surgery and conventional Western medicine treatment, and treatment groups 1 and 2 received additional EA treatment at different time points. The initial flatus time after the surgery, visual analog scale (VAS) score at different time points after the surgery, the proportion of using patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) after the surgery, and the times of adding analgesics were observed in the three groups. Results: The initial flatus time after the surgery was earlier in treatment groups 1 and 2 than in the control group (P<0.05); the difference between treatment groups 1 and 2 was statistically insignificant (P>0.05). The VAS score was lower in treatment group 2 than in the control group at 6, 12, 24, and 72 h after the surgery (P<0.05); the VAS score was lower in treatment group 1 than in the control group only at 72 h after the surgery (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the rate of using PCA among the three groups (P>0.05). Regarding the times of adding analgesics, it was less in treatment group 2 than in the control group at 12 h after the surgery (P<0.05). Conclusion: Either EA during and after the surgery or only after the surgery can hasten the initial flatus and boost the recovery of gastrointestinal function in patients after radical resection of gastrointestinal neoplasms. Successive EA during and after the surgery should be superior to postoperative EA regarding the analgesic effect after the surgery.
