Objective To investigate the characteristics of chronic Keshan disease (CKD) and ischemic cardiomyopathy ( ICM ) and provide a basis for differential diagnosis . Methods Forty-two cases of CKD were randomly sampled from 6 Keshan disease districts in Sishui, Zoucheng, Juxian, Wulian, Yishui and Qingzhou Counties of Shandong Province, as CKD group. Thirty-one cases of ICM were selected from Qianfushan Hospital as ICM group. Echocardiography was used to analyze the cardiac morphology , hemodynamic and function. Results Left atrial internal diameter(LA), left ventricular(LV), end-diastolic internal diameter(LVd), right ventricular diameter(RV) and right atrial transverse diameter(RAtd) of the CKD group[(45.14 ± 6.93),(68.48 ± 6.24),(28.90 ± 3.14),(52.79 ± 6.62)mm] were higher than those of ICM group[(40.68 ± 5.12),(60.55 ± 4.07),(24.35 ± 2.12), (47.68 ± 8.53)mm , t = 3.03, 6.55, 7.38, 2.88, all P < 0.01]. In CKD group, several atrioventricular carities were enlarged, and the ventricular wall tended to become thin. In ICM group, left atrioventricular cavities were enlarged, and the apex of LV was thin spherical. The LV ejection fraction(LVEF) and fractional shortening of LV (LVFS) of the CKD group [(40.50 ± 10.68)%, (22.81 ± 6.24)%] were lower than those of the ICM group [(54.61 ± 6.58)%, (30.71 ± 4.29)%, t = - 6.957, - 5.976, all P < 0.01]. Diffuse hypokinetic motion of LV reduced in 85.7%(36/42) of CKD patients, and 83.9%(26/31) of ICM patients had segmental LV dyskinesia. Slight regurgitation of single valve was common in ICM group , but several regurgitation of multiple valves were more common in CKD group. Conclusion Echocardiography is a valuable noninvasive technology for differentiating CKD and ICM.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2006;12(1):11-13
ObjectiveTo develop a stable model of focal cerebral infarction in rat to study the curative effect of neural stem cells transplantation.MethodsThirty-seven rats were selected which were divided into two groups in random, experimental group and control group. The focal infarction model was developed by the ligation of the left middle cerebral artery followed by the ligation of the ipsilateral common carotid artery and the temporary clip occlusion of the contralateral common carotid artery for 1.5 h. The operation adopted minimally invasive craniotomy though temporal bone. The model was evaluated by examining the neurologic deficits, ink perfusion, TTC staining and Magnetic Resonance imaging.ResultsAll the rats were in good condition after the operation, the mortality rate was 6.25% after 4 weeks. Ink perfusion and TTC staining confirmed that the ischemia was confined to the cortex. The areas of infarction measured 83.52 mm3 by Magnetic Resonance imaging after 4 weeks.ConclusionA stable focal cerebral infarction model can be achieved by minimally invasive craniotomy. It is superior for its homogeneity of infarction volume and site, and its low mortality. It can be used for the study of transplantation of neural stem cells.

Ilizarov technique is designed based on the "tension-stress principle". Application of the Ilizarov technique can help form a stable mechanical structure through external fixation. It only creates small wounds, without peeling off the surrounding tissue and periosteum. It connects different types of fixation pins and bone or soft tissue to form a traction force, which continuously stimulates the regeneration of bone and tissue and improves the local blood supply and early functional rehabilitation exercises, forming a complete set of minimally invasive orthopedic treatment systems. Ilizarov technique has achieved good results in fracture healing, deformity correction, tissue repair, osteomyelitis, bone nonunion, bone defect, and bone tumor. This paper will summarize the clinical application and research of the Ilizarov technique in orthopedics and explore the key problems of the Ilizarov technique that need to be solved at present.

To prepare Fe(3)O(4)-magnetic nanoparticles loaded with adriamycin and investigate the reversal role of drug-loaded nanoparticles in K562 and resistant cell line K562/A02, the drug-loaded nanoparticles were prepared by using mechanical absorption polymerization at different conditions of 4 degrees C or 37 degrees C for 24 or 48 hours. The survival of cells cultured with drug-loaded nanoparticles for 48 hours was detected by MTT assay, then the growth inhibition efficacy of cells was calculated. The results showed that the growth inhibition efficacy of both two cell lines was enhanced with increasing concentration of Fe(3)O(4)-magnetic nanoparticles. The inhibitory ratio of two cell lines obtained at 4 degrees C and for 48 hours was significantly better than that at 37 degrees C and 24 hours. In conclusion, Fe(3)O(4)-magnetic nanoparticles can load adriamycin by using mechanical absorption polymerization, but depended on proper temperature and time. Furthermore, drug-loaded nanoparticles showed an ability reversing multidrug resistance.

OBJECTIVEThe aim of this study was to understand the effect of different treatment of obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) for refractory asthma in children.
METHODSFifty two children (32 in surgical group, 20 in conservative group) with refractory asthma and OSAHS were included in the study. All children received asthma condition assessment and polysomnography (PSG) examination before and after treatment, and were followed up for 6 months.
RESULTSAll children got improved in PSG values 3 months after treatment, more significant improvement was achieved in surgical group than in conservative group (P < 0.05). While compared of OSAHS treatment, there were 2 cure, 6 notable effective, 9 effective, 3 in vain cases in conservative group, 8 cure, 16 notable effective, 8 effective, 0 in vain cases in surgery group. There was significant difference between the two groups (χ² = 8.91, P = 0.031). All children got improved in asthma condition evaluation parameters and decreased the use number of short acting β2 agonists after 6 months treatment. More significant improvement was achieved in surgical group than in conservative group. The differences of all the items had statistical significance (P < 0.05). There was statistical correlation between days mutation rate of peak expiratory flow (PEF) and apnea hypopnea index (r = 0.712, P < 0.01), and between days mutation rate of PEF and lowest oxygen saturation (r = 0.726, P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSActive treatment of OSAHS can improve asthma symptoms and reduce asthma medication effectively. The curative effect of surgical treatment is superior to conservative treatment.

The aim of present study is to investigate the cardioprotective effect of a new compound acetyl ferulaic isosorbide (AFI), composed of ferulaic acid (FA) and isosorbide mononitrate (ISMN) by esterification in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R). Male Sprague-Dawley rats, subjected to 30 minutes of myocardial ischemia and 3 hours of reperfusion, randomly received one of the following treatments separately: SHAM, I/R (MI/R + solvent), SF (MI/R+SF, 40 mg x kg(-1), ig), ISMN (MI/R + ISMN, 30 mg x kg(-1), ig), SF + ISMN (MI/R + SF + ISMN, 40 mg x kg(-1) + 30 mg x kg(-1), ig) and AFI (MI/R + AFI, 10 mg x kg(-1), ig). Left ventricle developed pressures (LVDP) and the maximal first derivative of developed pressure ( +/-dP / dtmax) were monitored throughout the experiments. Myocardial infarction size, serum creatine kinase (CK) activity, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) production were determined at the end of reperfusion. Compared with SF, ISMN or SF + ISMN treatment groups, AFI treatment decreased infarction size (n=8, P < 0.01), improved cardiac function as evidenced by increased LVDP and +/- dP/dtmax (n=8, P < 0.05), increased serum SOD activity, reduced serum CK and LDH activities, H2O2 and MDA production (n=8, P < 0.05). The new compound AFI showed a stronger cardioprotective effect against MI/R injury than SF, ISMN or their combined administration did.
