1.Outcomes of docetaxel and cisplatin induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer

Objective To investigate the efficacy and side-effect of docetaxel and cisplatin induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).MethodsEighty-six patients with histologically confirmed locally advanced NSCLC were randomized into induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy (ICCRT)arm or concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) arm. Both arms were treated with intensity-modulated radiation therapy. Induction and concurrent chemotherapy regimen consist of docetaxel and cisplatin. Results Follow-up rate of the whole group is 100%.The response rate in the CCRT arm and ICCRT arm is 70% and 80% ( χ2 =1.26,P =0.261 ),respectively; and 1-,2-,3-year survival rate is 65% and 85%,40% and 50%,33% and 44% (χ2 =3.90,P=0.048),respectively; the median survival time and time to progression is 17.5 and 22.0 months and 14.0 and 19.0 months respectively.Major adverse effects are leukopenia (43 and 32 cases,χ2 =3.48,P =0.062),radiation esophagutis (26 and 20 cases,χ2 =0.12,P =0.730),anemia (26 and 16 cases,χ2 =2.34,P =0.126) and radiation pneumonitis (13 and 9 cases,χ2 =0.37,P =0.541 ).ConclusionsICCRT for locally advanced NSCLC can improve the overall survival rate and time to progression,induction chemotherapy did not increase side-effects.There was no difference in response rate between CCRT and ICCRT arm.
2.Earlier menarche can be an indicator of more body fat: study of sexual development and waist circumference in Chinese girls.

OBJECTIVEThis paper aims to study the relationship between body fat and sexual development in Chinese girls with different waist circumference.
METHODSSix thousand one hundred and fifty six girls aged 6-19 were sampled. Their body weight, height, waist circumference, percentage of body fat and secondary sex characteristics were measured. All the subjects were divided into three groups: low class waist circumference, moderate class waist circumference and high class waist circumference. The menarche percentages were analyzed by using the status method. The menarche ages were analyzed by using the retrospective method. Estimates for mean age at entry into a pubertal stage and menarche were calculated by a probit analysis.
RESULTSThe incidences of moderate class and high class waist circumstance were 20.94% and 25.27%, respectively. The sexual development of the former was earlier than that of the latter. The percentages of the menarche were detected as high class>moderate class>low class. The menarche ages were expressed as high class CONCLUSIONA close association is found between the waist circumference and sexual development, especially the menarche age. Girls with high class waist circumference are more vulnerable to earlier menarche and excess body fat. It is important to control the occurrence of central obesity through monitoring the change of waist circumference in puberty for girls' health.

3.The rabbit experimental study for toxicokinetics of chlorpyrifos impacted by hemoperfusion.

OBJECTIVETo investigate toxicokinetic parameters impacted by hemoperfusion after oral chlorpyrifos exposure, to investigate the adsorption effect of hemoperhusion for chlorpyrifos poisoning.
METHODS12 rabbits were divided into two groups after oral exposure with chlorpyrifos 300 mg/kg body weight. Control group: without hemoperfusion; hemoperfusion group: hemoperfusion starts 0.5 h after chlorpyrifos exposure and lasts for 2h. Blood samples were collected at different times, concentrations of chlorpyrifos were tested by GC, then, toxicokinetic parameterswere calculated and analysis by DAS3.0.
RESULTSIn hemoperfusion group, peak time was (7.19±3.74) h, peak concentrations was (1.37±0.56) mg/L, clearance rate was (13.93±10.27) L/h/kg, apparent volume of distribution was (418.18±147.15) L/kg The difference of these parameter were statistically significant compared with control group (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONHmoperfusion will decrease the inner exposure and load dose of rabbits with chlorpyrifos poisoning.

4.Craniofacial therapy: advanced local therapies from nano-engineered titanium implants to treat craniofacial conditions.

Nano-engineering-based tissue regeneration and local therapeutic delivery strategies show significant potential to reduce the health and economic burden associated with craniofacial defects, including traumas and tumours. Critical to the success of such nano-engineered non-resorbable craniofacial implants include load-bearing functioning and survival in complex local trauma conditions. Further, race to invade between multiple cells and pathogens is an important criterion that dictates the fate of the implant. In this pioneering review, we compare the therapeutic efficacy of nano-engineered titanium-based craniofacial implants towards maximised local therapy addressing bone formation/resorption, soft-tissue integration, bacterial infection and cancers/tumours. We present the various strategies to engineer titanium-based craniofacial implants in the macro-, micro- and nano-scales, using topographical, chemical, electrochemical, biological and therapeutic modifications. A particular focus is electrochemically anodised titanium implants with controlled nanotopographies that enable tailored and enhanced bioactivity and local therapeutic release. Next, we review the clinical translation challenges associated with such implants. This review will inform the readers of the latest developments and challenges related to therapeutic nano-engineered craniofacial implants.
