2.Research progress of gastric cancer stem cells and microenvironment
Cancer Research and Clinic 2011;23(1):68-70
Cancer stem cells (CSC) have been defined as an unique subpopulation in tumors that possess the ability to initiate tumor growth and sustain tumor self-renewal. The tumor stem cell model proposes that tumor stem cells are the origin of most tumors. Accompanying with further extension in the investigation of cancer stem cells, the effects of niche that serves as'their microenvironment in tissue on the functions of cancer stem cells attract more and more attention, which plays important roles in maintaining the characteristics of cancer stem cells. It is essential to understand how cancer stem cells interact with their microenvironment. Although the evidence has been provided to support the existence of CSCs in various solid tumors, the identity of gastric CSCs has not been reported. In this review, we will examine gastric cancer stem cell niches and their impact on stem cell biology. The research on gastric cancer stem cell will provide new approaches for improved understanding of gastric cancer biology and gastric cancer treatment.
3.Controversy of vitrectomy in the treatment of intraocular malignancy
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2021;39(3):249-253
Retinoblastoma (RB) and choroidal malignant melanoma are the most common primary intraocular malignancy in children and adults, respectively.Due to the advance in the diagnosis and treatment of intraocular tumors, the survival rate and survival time of the patients are significantly improved. The goal of the therapy for the patients of intraocular malignant tumors has gradually changed from simply saving life to trying to preserve eyeball on the basis of saving life.Although there are various treatment options for intraocular malignant tumors, eye salvage is still an great challenge for the patients with refractory tumors. In recent years, vitrectomy has been used again by some doctors to the treatment of refractory RB and choroidal malignant melanoma, which undoubtedly gives the hope of eye salvage to the patients with intraocular malignant tumors. However, this therapy arouse controversy because serious intraoperative or postoperative complications occurred in some patients.Ophthalmologists should select suitable indications for this surgery cautiously, perform the operation carefully, combine other chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy and local treatment and close follow-up if necessary.
4.Evaluation of family interventions among children with allergic rhinitis undergoing immunotherapy
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2023;35(1):83-86
Objective:
To evaluate the effectiveness of family interventions among children with allergic rhinitis receiving immunotherapy, so as to provide insights into improvements of allergic rhinitis treatment.
Methods:
A total of 80 children with allergic rhinitis admitted to The First People's Hospital of Linping District from July 2018 to July 2021 were enrolled and randomly assigned into the control and intervention groups, of 40 participants in each group, and all children underwent immunotherapy. Children in the control group received routine interventions, while participants in the intervention group were given family interventions for 3 months, including health education, psychological counseling, and periodical follow-up. Parental awareness of allergic rhinitis was investigated using self-designed questionnaires, and the compliance to immunotherapy was evaluated. The clinical symptoms were evaluated using the symptom scores and the Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (RQLQ), and the prognosis was evaluated using the Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-20 (SNOT-20).
Results:
There were no significant differences between the intervention and control groups in terms of gender, age, course of disease or disease severity (P>0.05). The scores for parental awareness of etiology [(9.56±0.25) vs. (7.45±0.85)], inducement factor [(8.84±0.62) vs. (6.76±1.36)], medication management [(9.56±0.25) vs. (7.97±0.85)] and daily life management of allergic rhinitis [(9.14±0.55) vs. (8.14±0.46)] were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (P<0.05). The proportion of participants' compliance to immunotherapy was significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group (92.50% vs. 75.00%, P<0.05). The scores for clinical symptoms [(3.12±0.94) vs. (3.96±1.23)], RQLQ score [(3.31±0.87) vs. (3.87±1.02)] and the SNOT-20 scores for nasal symptoms [(6.54±2.14) vs. (8.22±2.45)], sleep disorders [(4.11±0.58) vs. (5.24±1.03)], associated symptoms [(5.29±1.52) vs. (6.34±2.01)] and emotional consequences [(7.52±1.85) vs. (9.19±2.69)] were significantly lower in the intervention group than in the control group post-interventions (P<0.05).
Conclusion
Family interventions are effective to improve the compliance to immunotherapy, clinical symptoms, prognosis and quality of life among children with allergic rhinitis

7.The association between schizophrenia and the nicotine-like acetylcholinergic receptor gene polymorphism
Chinese Journal of Behavioral Medicine and Brain Science 2008;17(3):229-231
Objective To detect the genetic association between schizophrenia and rs1042724,rs384470 polymorphism at nucleotide of the nicotine-like acetylcholinergic receptor gene. Methods Observed in a sample of 98 parent/offspring trios where the proband net the American Classification and diagnostic Criteria for Mental Disorders. The Forth Revised Edition, criteria for schizophrenia using transmission/disequilibrium test(TDT) analysis. The polymorphism of nicotine-like acetylcholinergic receptor gene was detected with PCR methods and SNP typing in all nucleus families. Results Using a family-based association design we obtained evidence of an association between schizophrenia and allele of the rs1042724 polymorphism in the nicotine-like acetylcholinergic receptor gene(RR=1.31,2 (RR)=3.96,P<0.05). Moreover the fact that transmission disequilibrium was observed when one affected offspring was selected at random from each family, suggesting that the results are due to association(McNemar 2 = 4.21,P<0.05). There is no association between schizophrenia and rs1042724 polymorphism in the nicotine-like acetylcholinergic receptor gene (McNemar 2 =2.34,P>0.05). Conclusion It shows an association between schizophrenia and the rs1042724 polymorphism at nucleotide of the nicotine-like acetylcholinergic receptor gene in Chinese.
