In order to improve the accuracy of blood pressure measurement in wearable devices, this paper presents a method for detecting blood pressure based on multiple parameters of pulse wave. Based on regression analysis between blood pressure and the characteristic parameters of pulse wave, such as the pulse wave transit time (PWTT), cardiac output, coefficient of pulse wave, the average slope of the ascending branch, heart rate, etc. we established a model to calculate blood pressure. For overcoming the application deficiencies caused by measuring ECG in wearable device, such as replacing electrodes and ECG lead sets which are not convenient, we calculated the PWTT with heart sound as reference (PWTT(PCG)). We experimentally verified the detection of blood pressure based on PWTT(PCG) and based on multiple parameters of pulse wave. The experiment results showed that it was feasible to calculate the PWTT from PWTT(PCG). The mean measurement error of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure calculated by the model based on multiple parameters of pulse wave is 1.62 mm Hg and 1.12 mm Hg, increased by 57% and 53% compared to those of the model based on simple parameter. This method has more measurement accuracy.

Human interleukin-15 (hIL-15) is an important cytokine to activate endothelial cells and can be regulated by many other cytokines. The aim of this study is to examine the ability of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) to induce the production of human interleukin-15 (hIL-15) and IL-15 receptor (IL-15Ralpha) by human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The data are summarized as follows: 1. Northern blot revealed that IL-15 mRNA was up-regulated by IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha. 2. Intracellular IL-15 protein was visualized by fluorescence microscopy, whereas the expression of IL-15 on the surface of HUVECs was detected by fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS), and no detectable IL-15 in the medium was verified by ELISA. 3. IL-15Ralpha was detected on the surface of HUVECs by FACS after IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha stimulation, whereas Western blotting revealed that the elevated expression on surface IL-15Ralpha was not due to the increased protein expression. The conclusion demonstrated from our results is that IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha play an important role in regulating the expression of IL-15 and IL-15Ralpha on the surface of HUVECs.

Objective To investigate the expression and the effects of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP-1) on lungs of rats with sepsis. Methods Forty Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into two groups, namely sham group (n =8) and sepsis model group (n =32).The rats of model group were modeled by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP),and were further divided into four subgroups as per the time after modeling, namely 6 h (n =8),12 h (n =8),24 h (n =8),48 h (n =8)subgroups.Blood and lung samples were taken 6 h,12 h,24 h and 48 h after modeling. The histological changes in lungs of the rats were observed under light microscope.Expressions of TIMP-1 mRNA,Bax mRNA and Bcl-2 mRNA in lungs were measured by RT-PCR.The immunohistochemistry was used to label the CD18 in lungs during different phases of sepsis. The data were processed by t test. Results Compared with sham group, the lung tissues of rats in model group were injured to a certain extent after CLP.The expression of TIMP-1 mRNA and the number of CD18 positive cells increased at the same time (P < 0.01),and peaked 24 hours later (P < 0.01).While the expression of Bax mRNA in model group decreased markedly 12-48 hours after modeling (P < 0.01-0.05),and reached minimum 48 hours later (P < 0.01).The expression of Bcl-2 mRNA in model group changed unnoticeable. The positive correlation between variations in number of CD18 positive cells and expression of TIMP-1 mRNA was found in model group (r =0.426,P < 0.01).Conclusions The increase in expression of TIMP-1 mRNA in lungs is closely associated with the lung injury of sepsis. The mechanism of lung injury is likely attributed to the preservation of inflammatory cells from apoptosis, and the persistent inflammation response causes tissue damage, leading to organ dysfunction.
