International Eye Science 2014;(7):1250-1252
AlM: To compare the anterior segment measurements derived from optical low coherence reflectometer ( Lenstar LS900 ) and combined Scheimpflug - Placido disk topographer ( Sirius) .
METHODS: ln this study, we enrolled healthy myopic subjects 54 ( 87 eyes ) . The central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber depth (ACD), flat keratometry ( FK) readings , steep keratometry ( SK ) readings and white to white ( WTW ) were measured by LS900 and Sirius. Evaluation and analysis were performed using paired t tests, the Pearson correlation, and Bland-Altman analyses.
RESULTS: The CCT and ACD measurements were significantly lower whereas FK, SK and WTW measurements were higher with LS900 (P<0. 001). Mean differences were -6. 11 ± 6. 32μm,-0. 09 ± 0. 07mm, 0. 18 ± 0. 25D, 0. 21 ± 0. 36D and 0. 25 ± 0. 39mm with statistical significant (P<0. 01). Pearson correlation analysis showed high correlation between the 2 devices for all measurements (P<0. 001). On Bland-Altman analysis, 95% limits of agreement for all measurements were 6. 26 to -18. 49μm; 0. 04 to 0. 22mm; 0. 68 to 0. 32D; 0. 92 to 0. 50D and 1. 00 to 0. 5mm.
CONCLUSlON: Anterior segment parameters evaluated with LS900 and Sirius systemare correlated well and achieve good agreement. However, there are significantly statistical differences which may be caused by the different measurement modes, so they may not be interchangeable use under certain clinical circumstances.

Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) plays important roles in varieties of biological processes. This factor is highly conserved in mammalian animals and only one heterozygous LIF mutation was reported to cause the infertility of women. A LIF mutation was generated and the evidences were provided that the mutation of mature LIF at the 29th amino acid totally abolished its functions, including stimulation of STAT activation assayed by Luciferase reporter gene expression and EMSA experiments. In addition, the mutated LIF failed to inhibit the proliferation of M1 cells. The data indicated that the mutation of LIF did not have a dominant negative effect but lost the biological functions, suggesting that the 29th amino acid is critical for maintaining the activities of LIF.

OBJECTIVETo explore the mechanism of prevention and treatment of post-PTCA restenosis with Xinmaitong (XMT).
METHODSRabbit carotid endothelial injury model was established using Fishman air drying method. Effect of XMT on model rabbits wild-type p53 gene expression was observed by tissue in situ hybridization.
RESULTSp53 gene expression appeared on the 3 days after operation, enhanced on the 7 days, reached the peak on the 14th day, weakened on the 21th, and still showed on the 28th day. The strongest expression was shown in rabbits treated by XMT, second in those treated by Warfarin, and the weakest in the operated control group.
CONCLUSIONXMT could promote the high expression of wild-type p53 gene expression in rabbit with carotid endothelial injury, which is possibly one of the important mechanism of XMT in preventing and treating arterial restenosis.

Objective To examine the epidemiology of kidney stone in Pudong New Area ofShanghai and analyze its risk factors. Methods 12 565 residents with the age above 16 years weresurveyed. All subjects needed to answer a questionnaire concerning their sex, age, geographic loca tions, occupation, education status and family history of renal calculi, etc. Ultrasound examinationwas used to diagnose the kidney stone. Results The average prevalence of kidney stone was 3.15%(396/12565),4. 05%(247/6096)in the men and 2.30%(149/6469) in the women, respectively (P<0. 05). The prevalence increased significantly with age of men, whereas the prevalence was highest forwomen aged 50-59. The prevalence between city and rural was not significantly different before age60 (2.58% vs 2. 62%,P>0. 05),whereas the prevalence were significantly different after age 60(6.28% vs 3.36%,P<0.05). The prevalence of subjects with a family history of renal calculi washigher than that without family history (32.02% vs 2.06%,P<0. 01). The prevalence in manage ment staff and vehicle drivers were the highest. Conclusions The prevalence of kidney stone in Pud ong New Area of Shanghai was lower than that in south of China. The relative risk increased in sub jects of aged men, women aged 50 59,with family history of renal calculi, management staff and ve hicle drivers. An understanding of the epidemiology particularly the interactions among different fac tors, may help lead to approach that reduce the risk of stone formation.
