Space Medicine & Medical Engineering 2006;0(01):-
Objective To examine ERP components related to different processings of emotional expression of fury, neutral and smile during face-map recognition. Method Twelve undergraduate students (7 male, 5 female), 19~24 years old, were served as subjects in the experiment. The visual stimuli consisted of six kinds of pictures: three kinds of facial pictures (neutral, smile, fury) and three kinds of non-facial ones. The subjects were asked to complete two tasks, i. e., face recognition (FR) and facial expression classification (FEC). During FR task, two runs of 210 stimuli (duration: 50 ms) with each (3 facial and 3 non-facial pictures) were randomly presented with equal probability (ISI: from 1 500 ms to 2 000 ms randomly), and subjects were asked to react to facial stimuli and non-facial stimuli by pressing the left button and right button respectively as quickly as possible. During FEC task, 210 stimuli (3 facial stimuli and 3 non-facial stimuli) were randomly presented with equal probability (duration: 50 ms, ISI: from 1 500 ms to 2 000 ms), and subjects were asked to react to different facial expressions by pressing 3 different buttons respectively as quickly as possible. Electroencephalogram (EEG) was recorded with NeuroScan-32 cap (10/20 system), in reference to bilateral mastoids. Result: 1) Compared with the ERP elicited by facial stimuli during FR task, the responses during FEC task evoked a P580 component clearly. 2) A positive-potential difference after 450 ms post-stimulation between ERP during FEC task and during FR task was observed, which was significant at central and parietal sites. According to the difference of task demand between two tasks, this wave was termed the expression processing positivity (EPP) to reflect the expression processing during face recognition. 3) The peak latency of furyEPP was the shortest and smile-EPP the longest. Conclusion The mode and site of the EPP are likeIv to represent brain function in late processinq of the expression.

Objective To explore the effect of electrical acupuncture on the cytokines in adjuvant arthritis rats. Methods 60 rats were divided into 5 groups randomly, each with 12 rats. The blank control group and the model group were only bundled; while the Zusanli group, the Guanyuan group, and the Weizhong group were electroacupunctured each single point after bundled, once per 2 d. 32 d later, the swelling of voix pedis was measured and the level of interleukin (IL)-1, IL-2, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in plasma was determined in each group. Results After being modeled, the voix pedis of rats were swelling (P<0.05), while the swelling of voix pedis in the Zusanli, Guanyuan and Weizhong groups significantly reduced (P<0.05). The plasma IL-1, IL-2 and TNF-α was significantly higher in the model group than in the blank group (P<0.01), and reduced in Zusanli, Guanyuan and Weizhong groups (P<0.05). Compared with Zusanli and Guanyuan groups, there was a significant difference in the Weizhong group (P<0.01). The plasma IL-10 was significantly lower in the model group than in the blank control group (P<0.05), and increased in the Zusanli, Guanyuan and Weizhong groups (P<0.05). Compared with Zusanli and Guanyuan groups, there was a significant difference in the Weizhong group (P<0.01). The swelling of voix pedis was positively correlated with the level of IL-1, IL-2, and TNF-α (r=0.881~0.912, P<0.01). There was positive correlation among the IL-1, IL-2, and TNF-α (P<0.01). IL-10 was negatively correlated with the swelling, IL-1, IL-2, and TNF-α (r=-0.293~-0.519, P<0.05). Conclusion Electroacupuncture can significantly reduce the swelling of voix pedis in adjuvant arthritis rats, and it may be related with improving immune function by increasing the level of IL-10 and decreasing the level of IL-1, IL-2 and TNF-α in plasma.

BACKGROUND:Traditional therapeutic methods of diabetes combined with lower limb artery obturation showed poor outcomes such as drug or intervention.Stem cell transplantation is a new method to treat this disease in recant years, and has obtained good outcomes in the clinic.Evaluating the therapeutic outcomes of stem cell transplantation has great damage and cost much. Thus, color Doppler ultrasound is used to examine non-invasion in the artery of the lower extremity, which shows important clinical value.OBJECTIVE:To evaluate improvement of lower extremity artery lesion following autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation using color Doppler ultrasound, and to compare with results of angiography.METHODS:A total of 41 patients diagnosed as having diabetes combined with lower limb artery obturation were included.Following administration of recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor(rhG-CSF)(150 μg/d)for 5 days, peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMNCs)were mobilized and harvested by using a separator at day 5 to prepare stem cell suspension, and which were injected intramuscularly in the diseased extremities(3×109 per limb). The clinical and laboratory findings were monitored every week for 3 months to 1 year following stem cell transplantation.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After stem cell transplantation, severe pain lameness, local cool-feeling and ulcer were significantly improved, and ankle-brachial index was increased obviously(P<0.01).Color Doppler ultrasonography measurement showed that peak systolic velocity in diseased extremities was significantly increased post-transplantation(P<0.01).Following transplantation, blood flow of the lower limb arterial canal was improved to different extents;collateral vessels were increased surrounding obstructed artery and in muscles.Spiral CT for new collateral vessel formation were showed increased. No related complication or adverse effects were observed in 41 patients during observation. Results indicated that color Doppler ultrasound can exactly rapidly examine and assess blood transport improvement in the lower limbs following stem cell transplantation, which is identical to results from angiography. It also provides reliable evidences for the diagnosis on the transplantation of stem cells for the treatment of diabetes combined with lower limb artery obturation.

OBJECTIVECOL9A1 gene is located in the susceptibility region of idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus (ICTEV) (6q12-13). This study aimed to investigate the expression of the COL9A1 gene and the distribution of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of COL9A1 gene in patients with ICTEV and normal controls.
METHODSImmunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of COL9A1 in 25 children with ICTEV and 5 normal controls. The frequencies of genotypes and allele of two SNPs in COL9A1 gene rs35470562 and rs1135056 were investigated by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and DNA sequencing in 118 patients with ICTEV and 100 normal controls.
RESULTSThe COL9A1 protein expression was significantly higher in 22 (88%) out of 25 children with ICTEV than normal controls. There were significant differences in the frequencies of genotypes and allele of rs1135056 in COL9A1 gene between the ICTEV and the control groups: the G allele frequency was higher, the frequency of AA genotype was lower, and the frequencies of AG and GG genotypes were higher in ICTEV patients than those in healthy controls (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSCOL9A1 protein is highly expressed in patients with ICTEV and rs1135056, which is located in the coding region of COL9A1 gene, may be associated with the pathogenesis of ICTEV.
