An activation domain in p67(phox) (residues 199-210) is critical for regulating NADPH oxidase activity in cell-free system [10] To determine the steady state reduction of FAD, thioacetamide-FAD was reconstituted in gp91(phox), and the fluorescence of its oxidised form was monitored. Omission of p67(phox) decreased the steady state reduction of the FAD from 28% to 4%, but omission of p47(phox) had little effect. A series of the truncated forms of p67(phox) were expressed in E.coli to determine the domain in p67(phox) which is essential for regulating the steady state of FAD reduction. The minimal length of p67(phox) for for regulating the steady state of FAD reduction is shown to be 1-210 using a series of truncation mutants which indicates that the region 199-210 is also important for regulating electron flow within flavocytochrome b(558). The deletion of this domain not only decreased the superoxide generation but also decreased the steady state of FAD reduction. Therefore, the activation domain on p67(phox) regulates the reductive half-reaction for FAD, consistent with a dominant effect on hydride/electron transfer from NADPH to FAD.

Clear cell hidradenoma is a much less common primary cutaneous tumor originated from sweat gland. Clinically this tumor occurs more frequently in female than in male and in patients of any age although there is a predilection for the middle and older age groups. The lesion is solitary and represents a cutaneous nodular and cystic mass of slow expansible growth. By light microscopy the lesion has been characterized as a solid cataneous tumor composed of clear epithelial cells which are focally arranged in glandular and cystic patterns. We observed a 37-year-old housewife who had suffered from a tumor on her back for 3 years. The tumor was a pedunculated, soft, fixed mass and 3. 5 * 3 * 1. 5 cm in size. Histopathologic finding showed the tumor to be composed of two main types of cells, fusiform and clear cells.

Visual perception is a complex process engaging many different aspects of brain functioning. Like other cognitive functions, the extensive cortical distribution and complexity of visual perceptional activities make them highly vulnerable to brain injury. Dectection and characterization of perceptual require careful assessment as well as the application of selected neuropsychological tests. In the article we reviewed neuropsychological assessment of visual perception and constructional abilities. And the principal visuospatial disorders are discussed, the associated neuropsychiatric disorders are presented.

The present study evaluates the type, frequency and location of basal cell epithelioma, as well as the age and sex distribution of patients and the recurrence rate of basal cell epithelioma. In this study 116 patients, who visited Severance hospital during the last 15 years from Jan. 1, 1967 to Dec. 31, 1981 and were diagnosed histopathologically as having basal cell epithelioma, were analysed. Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant tumor in the orthopaedic field. Recently, the management of osteosarcoma was evolved in many aspects and the improved results were reported in many articles. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the changes of clinical findings and management modalities in osteosarcoma since 1980. We reviewed 127 osteosarcomas managed from 1980 to 1992. The Enneking surgical stage was as follows; stage I 12 cases, stage II 98 cases and stage III 17 cases. They were subclassified into classic(97 cases), parosteal(12 cases), telangiectatic(5 cases), secondary(4 cases), periosteal(2 cases), gnathic(2 cases), high grade surface(1 cases) and undetermined(4 cases). The disease-free survival rate was evaluated for the patients of stage II classic osteosarcomas treated with amputation(27 cases) or limb-salvage operation(23 cases), and average follow up period of them was 49 months. In 27 cases of amputation adjuvant chemotherapy was administered in 23 cases. And in 23 patients treated with limb-salvage operation, neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy were done in 19 cases and only adjuvant chemotherapy in 2 cases. The clinical changes since 1980 were as follows: (1) The mean duration from symptom onset to diagnosis was decreased gradually from 6.5 months(1980) to 3.1 months(1992). (2) The proportion of curative surgery was increased from 40%(1980) to 87%(1992) in stage I and II. (3) The proportion of limb-salvage operation was rapidly increased upto 88% since 1985. The 5 year disease-free survival rate of stage II classic osteosarcoma was 36% with amputation and 67% with limb-salvage operation.

Pretibial myxedema, which consists of localized cutaneous accumulations of acid mucopolyeaccharides, occurs in a small percentage of patients with diffuse toxic goiter. Pretibial myxedema may also occur during the course of nonthyrotoxic thyroid disease. A case of pretibial myxedema with diffuse toxic goiter in 64 year-old female is reported. She has been suffered from thickened yellowish waxy pIaques on both pretibial areas and left dorsum of foot. Initial skin lesions developed about 7 months ago, and increased its size and numbers insidiously. Diagnosis was confirmed by characteristic clinical, laboratory and histopathological findings. Literatures were reviewed.

A hemangioma occurred in the bony epiphysis is extremly rare. A 5-year-old boy visited to our hospital with pain and flexion contracture on the right knee. MRI showed some lesions scattered in the epiphysis of the distal femur and the proximal tibia. Biopsy specimen from the distal femoral epiphysis revealed pathologic findings compatible with hemangioma. On 8 years follow-up, the lesion in the distal femoral epiphysis had been cured, and those in the proximal tibial epiphysis were spontaneously disappeared without surgery. The scanogram shows no leg length discrepancy and angular deformity. We reports a rare case of hemangioma occurred in the bony epiphysis with the results of 8 year follow-up with the review of literatures.
