Vietnam population was more than 80 millions in 1998-1999. In fact, this figure was about 80 millions in 2002. This was a significant achievement. Therefore, the United Nation approved the success of the population and family planning program and offered an international population award for Vietnam.

Chinese medicine pair (CMP) was frequently applied in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinic, and its significance was shown in long-term clinical practices and many accumulated experiences. It is the unique combination of two relatively fixed Chinese medicines in TCM clinic with the basic feature and principle of TCM compatibility, is the most fundamental and the simplest form of TCM formulae with certain theory basis and combinatory reason, which is proven effective. And the unique combination is frequently used for achieving mutual reinforcement or detoxication. CMP is an intermediate point between single herb and many TCM formulae, reflecting the regularity of TCM formulae compatibility and connotation of differential treatment. This paper analyzed and summarized the basic characteristics, development process and research significance of CMP, which aims to lead the modern basic and applied research on compatibility theory of CMP.

6.Professor CHENG Xin-nong: a famous acupuncture and moxibustion scientist.

Professor CHENG Xin-nong is a famous acupuncture and moxibustion scientist in our country, who is a student and teacher of the first lot with academic credentials of acupuncture and moxibustion. He is the first academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and one of pioneers in international training cause of acupuncture and moxibustion in new China. He takes a physician, teacher and manager for tens of years in Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing College of TCM, and Beijing International Training Center of Acupuncture and Moxibustion. The Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion Sciences compiled by him is an international teaching material of acupuncture and moxibustion popular at home and abroad, and his students can be found over the world. He assumed the chief scientist of the "studies of channels", a national scaling plant of sciences, and taken charge of many items of academic studies about acupuncture and channels, and makes outstanding contributions to the acupuncture and moxibustion cause of new China. Also, he is a versatile age and is versed in both penmanship and writing, and he is a number of The Central Research Institute of Culture and History.

Chief physician zhou Mei-sheng, a famous expert of acupuncture and moxibustion in our country, has made outstanding contribution to development of cause of acupuncture and moxibustion in over half a century, including paying attention to practice, concentrating attention on clinical study and creation of acupuncture and moxibustion instruments; being at good summarization, workers with original view, resolving doubts, medical skill and medical ethics passing on to later generations; believing moxibustion able to treat AIDS. In recent over 20 years, he devotes study on acupuncture and moxibustion for treatment of difficult and complicated diseases and writes books to expound a theory.

Professor ZHENG Kui-shan is a famous specialist of acupuncture and moxibustion sciences, and he has obtained a lot of achievements in about 70 years' clinical treatment, scientific studies and teaching. He has advocated and devoted himself to the studies of traditional needling methods of acupuncture and moxibustion, with outstanding contributions to the development of Chinese and world's acupuncture and moxibustion. He participated in the scientific studies, clinical treatment and teaching of acupuncture and moxibustion at the early stage of founding of the China Academy of TCM. He first advocated and led "the study on channel essence", established Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Gansu College of TCM and Gansu Society of Zheng's Needling Methods. Professor Zheng's opinions and practice which emphasize on the studies of Chinese traditional acupuncture, moxibustion and needling methods indicate the direct of acupuncture and moxibustion studies in both China and world.
