Vietnam population was more than 80 millions in 1998-1999. In fact, this figure was about 80 millions in 2002. This was a significant achievement. Therefore, the United Nation approved the success of the population and family planning program and offered an international population award for Vietnam.

Chinese medicine pair (CMP) was frequently applied in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinic, and its significance was shown in long-term clinical practices and many accumulated experiences. It is the unique combination of two relatively fixed Chinese medicines in TCM clinic with the basic feature and principle of TCM compatibility, is the most fundamental and the simplest form of TCM formulae with certain theory basis and combinatory reason, which is proven effective. And the unique combination is frequently used for achieving mutual reinforcement or detoxication. CMP is an intermediate point between single herb and many TCM formulae, reflecting the regularity of TCM formulae compatibility and connotation of differential treatment. This paper analyzed and summarized the basic characteristics, development process and research significance of CMP, which aims to lead the modern basic and applied research on compatibility theory of CMP.

Professor YANG Jia-san was a famous acupuncture and moxibustion specialist of China in the present age. He had studied medicine since early youth and practiced medicine on his own at age of 17 years. He was bold in making innovations, successfully combined modern medical knowledge with traditional acupuncture and moxibustion, and formed an unique academic thought system in selection methods of acupoints, needling technique, study on acupoint theory and clinical application of acupoints, etc.. Clinically, he achieved excellent therapeutic effect due to his wide theories and good techniques. He was the acme of perfection in application of prescription and drugs, he undertook scientific research, teaching and clinical work of acupuncture and moxibustion and trained a large number of people of talent in Beijing University of TCM, making important contribution to development of acupuncture and moxibustion sciences; he undertook medical and health-care work for central leaders for long time, and cured chronic and stubborn diseases for foreign high leaders for many times, winning prestige for the fatherland.
