Objective To investigate the different effects of clozapine and risperidone on levels of blood glucose in patients with schizophrenia. Method 200 qualified cases selected from psychiatric department were divided into two groups randomly, of which 100 cases accepted the treatment with clozapine and the other 100 cases with risperidone. Blood glucose tests were used before treatment ,4 weeks after treatment and 8 weeks after treatment Results There was significantly higher blood glucose level in clozapine－ treated group than in risperidone－ treated group after 4 or 8 weeks treatment. The number of cases who had elevated blood glucose level (>6.1 mmol/L) in clozapine－ treated group was significantly more than in risperidone－ treated group. Conclusion The glucoregulatory abnormality which leads to glucose elevation in clozapine－ treated patients is greater than in risperidone－ treated patients. Additional motivation to clinical monitor for antipsychotic treatment－ related hyperglycemia is indicated.

Objective To investigate optimal radiation dose for digital radiography by researching the correlation between radiation dose and image quality of high kV chest radiography.Methods The kV of chest radiography was setted on 120 kV while mAs was changed.The chest radiography phantom and the contrast detail phantom CDRAD2.0 were exposed by DR with different mAs from 1 to 25 mAs.The entrance doses were measured for all exposures and the images were read independently by 5 observers on a higher resolution monitor of diagnosis work station.The image quality figure (IQF) was measured for each image.Comparison of the mean IQFs with different exposure doses were conducted in order to determined which was the optimal exposure condition for high kV radiography.The image quality of normal adult using different mAs,4 and 10 mAs for high KV chest radiography was compared.Results When the mAs was increased from 1 to 25 mAs,the entrance doses varied from 0.067 to 1.468 mGy.With the entrance doses increasing,the value of IQF was decreased (F =31.00,P ＜ 0.05).The values of IQF were statistically different between 1 and 4 mAs(F =15.3,P ＜0.05),and between 10 and 25 mAs(F =9.74,P ＜0.05).At 4 and 10 mAs with the entrance dose 0.250 and 0.606 mGy,the synthesis score of chest high kV radiography from two kinds of exposure dose was (24.8 ± 1.64),(25.8 ± 2.05),with no statistically significant difference.Conclusions For digital radiography,increasing radiation dose can improve image information.The optimal entrance dose of high kV chest radiography for standard body was about 0.250 mGy.

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects of Tongxinluo and its influence on the expression of CD40 and CD40L in artherosclerosis rabbits. Methods 60 male rabbits were divided into three groups randomly,20 of each group: normal control group, model group and Tongxinluo group. The rabbits in model group and Tongxinluogroup were used to prepare the atherosclerosis model induced by high-cholesterol diet. The levels of ET-1, NOwere measurde. Before and 12 weeks after durg treatment,serum total cholesterol ,plaque areas and ratios of intima/media thickness were detected. The expression of CD40 and CD40L mRNA were determinated by quantitive RT-PCR. Results Serum total cholesterol level of Tongxinluo group was decreased compared with model group ( P < 0. 05 ), and they were both much higher than those of normal control group ( P < 0. 01 ); as compared with the model group, aortic plaque areas and ratios of intima/media thickness in Tongxinluo group reduced significantly [ (0.56 ± 0. 07) vs ( 1.16±0.08),P<0.01;(36.88±2.38)% vs (76.58 ±2.86) %,P <0. 0l] ;The expression of CD40 and CD40L mRNA also decreased in Tongxinluo group with statistic significance[ (0.798 ± 0.115 )、 (0. 592 ± 0. 132) vs (0.686±0. 132) 、(0.498 ±0. 108) ,P <0. 01 ) ]. Conclusion Tongxinluo had the ability to anti-artherosclerosis and its possible mechanism was down-regulate the expression of CD40 and CD40L.

Objective:To study the antioxidant activity and anticancer activity of tea polysaccharide.Methods:Tea polysaccharide was extracted and purified by gel permeation chromatography from coarse old green tea leaves obtained from Wuyuan county of Jiangxi province in China.The antioxidant activity of the tea polysaccharide was evaluated by determining the change in absorbancy after heat-induced oxidation in a linoleic acid system with ?-carotene,the decoloration of the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and the elimination of superoxide generated from autoxidation of pyrogallol.On the other hand,the anticancer activities of tea polysaccharide at different concentrations were evaluated by MTT assay using two colon cancer cell lines(HCT-15,Caco-2).Results:Tea polysaccharide possessed distinctive antioxidative activity.The anti-proliferation capabilities of the tea polysaccharide against the tested human colon cancer cell lines were different under the designed experiment conditions.The tea polysaccharide with high purity exhibited good anti-proliferation activity against HCT-15 at concentration of 7.0?mol/L.Conclusion : Tea polysaccharide has remarkable antioxidative and anticancer bioactivities..

Objective To investigate the value of video-assisted thoracoscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of pleural effusion with unknown causes.Methods Video-assisted thoracoscopic biopsy or pleurodesis was performed in 45 cases of pleural effusion unexplained by routine examinations from March 2002 to March 2005.Results The diagnosis was clarified in all the 45 cases.There were 3 cases of malignant effusion,38 cases of tuberculous pleurisy,3 cases of nonspecific effusion,and 1 case of idiopathic pleural effusion.No severe surgical complications occurred.Follow-up checkups for 2~36 months found no recurrence.Conclusions Video-assisted thoracoscopy is a safe,effective,and micro-traumatic approach for the diagnosis and treatment of pleural effusion.

ObjectiveTo explore the operation effect and clinicopathologic characteristics of elderly patients with gastric carcinoma(GC) and the relationship between prognosis and age.MethodsThe clinical data and treatment outcomes of 112 elderly patients suffered from GC( elderly group≥70 years of age) and 135 younger patients (control group ＜50 years of age) were analyzed retrospectively.ResultsThe elderly GC patients had more preoperative comorbidities,and a well or moderately differentiated histology(P ＜0.05).And more young patients had a poorly differentiated histology and signet ring cell carcinoma,using the Borrmann classification,type Ⅳ was more frequent in the young patients(P ＜0.05 ) ; Whereas there were no significant differences beween the two groups in other factors ( including liver function,tumor invasion,nodal involvement,hepatic metastasis,peritoneal dissemination,tumor stage,type of surgery,post operation complication and 5-year survival rates of elderly patients and young patients) ( all P ＜0.05).ConclusionOutcomes in elderly patients with gastric carcinoma were comparable to young patients.The important prognostic factor was whether the patients undergo a curative resection.For the elderly patients without preoperative comorbidities or with controlled comorbidities,gastrectomy was a safe and effective treatment.
