Objective To study the effect of the compatibility on treating Ⅱ toⅢphase pressure sore of senior citizen by auricularia in-depth fermentation extracts and the dimethyl acrylyl hydropathic compress. Methods A total of 60 patients with Ⅱto Ⅲ phase pressure sore were divided randomly into the expedmental group and the control group with 30 cases in each group. The experimental group(30 cases.50 pressure sores)were treated with the auricularia in--depth fermentation extracts and the dimethyl acrylyl hydropathic compress. The control group(30 case8,46 pressure sores)were treated with conventional methods of dressing change,0.5% iodine to disinfect the wound surface.then bounded it up with the aseptic vaseline yarn and the sursical dressing. The curative effect Was compared by observing the effect indicators. Results The response rate of the experimental group was 100.0%.with an average healing time of 10.33 d.For the control group.the response rate was 78.3%,the average healing time Was 24.27 d.There Was significant difference on efficiency and the average healing time between the two groups,P<0.01.Conclusions Auricularia in-depth fermentation extracts and the dimethyl acrylyl hydropathic compress to treat the senior citizen Ⅱ toⅢphase pressure gore with a view to easy.safe and economical characteris tic.has a significant effect on the new agricultural co-medical health care and community groups.

ive] To assay the academic achievement of Guangzhou University of TCM by analyzing the academic value of articles published in Journal of Guangzhou University of TCM at the 45th anniversa ry of Guangzhou University of TCM. [Methods] Articles issued from 1984 to 2000 in the Journal were re viewed with the indexes such as the amount of fund - supported articles, rewarded article amount, period ical impacting factor, citation by famous overseas and domestic abstract periodicals or databases and re wards for the Journal. Runs test was used as the statistical method. [Results] From 1998 to 2000, the annual fund- supported articles occupied 28.3%, the amount of annual rewarded articles arrived 20, periodical impacting factor ranged first and the articles were listed in 17 kinds of abstract periodicals or databases. Rewards for the Journal from 1999 to 2001 were as follows: second reward in the appraise of National Best Journals & Best Scientific and Technological Periodicals, the 2nd Guangdong Best Journals and the 2nd National Best Periodicals of TCM, reward for the 3rd Guangdong Best Periodicals and the first reward in the the appraise of the 3rd Guangdong Best Scientific and Technological Periodicals. Data from 1984 to 2000 showed an increasing trend in the application of scientific methods in the Journal. [ Conclusion] Guangzhou University of TCM has obtained great academic achievement in recent years; the application of scientific methods is necessary for the development of scientific research; Guangzhou Uni versity of TCM has made progress in clinical and experimental research of TCM; studies on Chinese herb al medicines and their preparations should be strengthened.

To assess relationships between xanthine oxidase (XOD) and nephropathogenic infectious bronchitis virus (NIBV) infection, 240 growing layers (35 days old) were randomly divided into two groups (infected and control) of 120 chickens each. Each chicken in the control and infected group was intranasally inoculated with 0.2 mL sterile physiological saline and virus, respectively, after which serum antioxidant parameters and renal XOD mRNA expression in growing layers were evaluated at 8, 15 and 22 days post-inoculation (dpi). The results showed that serum glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities in the infected group were significantly lower than in the control group at 8 and 15 dpi (p < 0.01), while serum malondialdehyde concentrations were significantly higher (p < 0.01). The serum uric acid was significantly higher than that of the control group at 15 dpi (p < 0.01). In addition, the kidney mRNA transcript level and serum activity of XOD in the infected group was significantly higher than that of the control group at 8, 15 and 22 dpi (p < 0.05). The results indicated that NIBV infection could cause the increases of renal XOD gene transcription and serum XOD activity, leading to hyperuricemia and reduction of antioxidants in the body.
