Objective To study the relationships between polymorphisms of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene and pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH). Methods Ninety-nine PIH patients (PIH group), including 21 mild cases, 24 moderate cases and 54 severe cases and 54 normal pregnant women (control group) were recruited. The polymorphism of ACE gene was detected by PCR, and that of MTHFR gene was detected by PCR-RFLP. Results In PIH group, the frequencies of genotypes II, ID, and DD of ACE gene were 20.2%, 37.4% and 42.4% respectively, the frequencies of genotypes CC, CT, and TT of MTHFR gene were 53.5%, 31.3% and 15.2% respectively. There existed significant difference between genotypes DD, CT and D allele in PIH group and control group. Compared to mild PIH group, the frequencies of genotypes DD and CT in severe PIH group were significantly higher. The susceptibility to PIH in individuals with genotypes CC+DD was 2.648 times that of the controls. However, individuals with genotypes CT+II and CC+II were less susceptible to PIH in comparison to the controls. Logistic regression analysis showed that genotype DD and D allele were associated with PIH, genotype CT was associated with severe PIH. Conclusion Genotypes DD and CT may be the risk factors of PIH; genotype II may have a protective effect against PIH. There may exist some interaction between polymorphisms of ACE gene and MTHFR gene in the pathogenesis of PIH.

OBJECTIVE A surveillance study was performed for nosocomial infections in order to investigate the change in antimicrobial resistance of Klebsiella pneumoniae, especially the strains isolated from 1999 to 2004.METHODS K-B test was used for the antibiotics susceptibility test and the results were read based on National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards(NCCLS) of the USA.The situation of ESBLs-producing strains of K.pneumoniae was investigated.RESULTS Totally 326 K.pneumoniae strains showed the highest susceptibility to imipenem.Ceftazidime, cefepime, and cefoperazone/sulbactam also showed excellent activity against K.pneumoniae.The prevalence of ESBLs from 326 strains was 20.2%.CONCLUSIONS It is important to study the drug resistance in nosocomial infections by K.pneumoniae.

Objective To carry out a Meta-analysis on the published data to evaluate voice after laser surgery versus radiotherapy of T1a glottic carcinoma. Methods The major medical-related databases were used in this study including PubMed, Web of Science,Embase, Cochrane library, CNKI and Wanfang Date. The articles by two co-authors at the same time were screened to read the relevant literatures, extraction of data and research related to the purpose from the selected literature. Results According the necessary conditions, fourteen literatures was included finally, and statistical analysis results showed that owing to the meta-analysis of the maximum time of speech (MPT) [test for overall effect:Z=2.65,MD=-2.26,95%CI(-3.94,-0.59),P=0.008] and the fundamental frequency (F0) [test for overall effect:Z=7.49,MD=14.41,95%CI(10.14,18.19),P<0.000 01], radia-tion therapy was superior to laser surgery, but the Meta-analysis of voice handicap index (VHI) [test for overalleffect:Z=1.04,MD=5.86,95%CI(-5.22,16.94),P=0.30], jitter[test for overall effect:Z=1.43,MD=0.75,95%CI(-0.28,1.79),P=0.15], shimmer[test for overall effect:Z=1.26,MD=1.07,95%CI(-0.60,2.75,P=0.21] and Airflow rate(AFR) [test for overall effect:Z=0.42,MD=21.46,95%CI(-78.79,121.72),P=0.67] don''t show statistically significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion The radiation therapy is slightly superior to the laser surgery in protecting voice in the treatment of T1a glottic carcinoma.

Objective:
To investigate potential biomarkers for different types of hand, foot and mouth disease(HFMD).
Methods:
Nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)-based metabolomics methods were used to analyze the metabolic differences in serum of HFMD and healthy controls.Partial least squares discriminant analysis(PLS-DA)and orthogonal partial least square discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA)were used for analysis of metabolite profiles.Differential statistical analysis was performed by
