AIM: To investigate the role of endothelin-1 (ET-1), endothelin A receptor (ETAR) in pathophysiology of the lung after mustard intoxication. METHODS: The changes of transcription and expression of ET-1 and ETAR in the lung and their relationship with the tissue damage were studied with immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR. RESULTS: The level of ET-1 in the lung was significantly increased at 2 h, but decreased at 12 h after mustard intoxication. The transcription and expressin of ET-1 and ETAR were significantly increased at the early stage after intoxication. mRNA of endothelin-1 was increased, while mRNA of endothelin A receptor was down-regulated after (12 h.) CONCLUSION: ET-1 and ETAR in lung may play important roles in the pathophysiological process of mustard intoxication. [

Objective To evaluate the academic level and the popularity of Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics from the point view of citation. Methods According to the information of Chinese Medical Citation Index (CMCI), the amount and distribution of the original articles in Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics cited by the journals included by CMCI were statistically analyzed. The data analysis included the percentage of cited articles, the number of citation of a single article, authors of most cited articles, geological regions of cited articles, citing journals, the self citing rate and years of citation. Results The percentage of cited papers (663 articles, 3728 times) in all published 1 182 articles in Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics from 2005 to 2009 was an average of 56.09%. The average time of original articles cited by other researchers was 5.62. The highest one was citated by 104 times. 210 articles (31.68% of total papers) were cited 5 or more times, and the all cited times from them were 2835 (76.04% of total cited times). 663 cited articles were written by 485 authors from different countries. The most frequently cited author wrote 12 papers. The number of authors with one paper cited was 386 (79.58% of total authors). The cited authors are from the mainland, HongKong, and Taiwan in China, as well as USA, Canada, France. Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin are leading cities in orthopaedic research. Beijing was the first place (32.16% of total authors). There were 445 citing journals. There was 217 items self cited; the self- citing rate is 0.058. Conclusion Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics has provided high quality articles and has a strong influence in the field of medical research. It has been become an important resource for orthopaedic researchers and a vital medical journal in China.

Objective:To compare the difference between the measurement methods of wire and divider applied in the measurement of arch length at orthodontic dental model analysis.Methods:80 pairs of dental models were selected,including 40 normal occlusion models and 40 crowded models.The arch length of every model was measured by the wire and divider methods respectively,and the casual error and paired t test was subsequently employed to compare the difference between the measurements data.Results:The variance coefficients of the dental lengths measured by the divider method was larger than those measured by the wire method in both crowding and normal occlusion(P

Objective To investigate the effect of empowerment education on self-management in patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods A total of 128 patients with diabetes mellitus who met the criteria of WHO in 1999 were selected and divided into the control group(62 cases)and the observation group(66 cases). The control group accepted the traditional nursing methods, and the observation group accepted the empowerment education model. FBG, PBG, HbA1c and Diabetes Management Self-efficacy Scale (C-DMSES) were compared between two groups of patients after 3 months and 6 months. Results After the intervention with the empowerment education model, the patient′s FBG, PBG, HBA1c of the control group were (7.69±4.21) mmol/L, (11.78±3.21) mmol/L, (7.95±1.46)%three months after discharge, and (7.21 ± 3.19) mmol/L, (10.48 ± 4.65) mmol/L, (9.15 ± 2.36)% six months after discharge; while in the observation group, FBG, PBG, HBA1c were (6.23 ± 3.59) mmol/L,(9.32 ± 4.06) mmol/L, (6.69 ± 1.10)%three months after discharge, and (6.15 ± 1.89) mmol/L,(7.33 ± 2.10) mmol/L,(6.02 ± 2.17)%. The differences between two groups were significant (t=2.012-5.196, P<0.05). C-DMSES scores of the control group were 103.48 ± 18.41, 134.38 ± 13.01 on admission and six months after discharge, while in the observation they were 102.83 ± 10.91,157.64 ± 19.56. The differences between two groups were significant (t=3.151, P<0.05). Conclusions Empowerment education model can improve the ability of self-management of diabetes patients, improve self-efficacy to improve their own ability to control blood glucose.

Objective:To carry out the service in the oncology by medical volunteers, provide more comprehen-sive and intimate quality nursing services guidance with nursing staff together for cancer patients. Methods:Making the medical volunteers service application system, service process and service standards. According to the patients to nursing job satisfaction questionaire by a third party, through telephone follow-up forms, carry out the satisfac-tion survey. Combined with their own advantages of TCM medical volunteers, to carry out the diet instruction, psy-chological counseling, massage, warm room service, telephone return services such as ward, score of life quality of tumor patients on admission and after the volunteer service. Results:Ward accompanying rate dropping, increasing patient satisfaction with nursing service, improving the degree of identification of volunteer service, tumor patients and improving the quality of life, and is conducive to building a perfect medical students social practice platform. Conclusion:Volunteer services improve the quality of nursing service, cultivating a correct outlook on life, values and morality of medical volunteers, strengthening medical volunteer service consciousness, achieving win-win for patients, departments, volunteers.

This paper introduces the progress and defects of monitoring and preventive equipments for liquid propellant in China. Then it evaluates the prospects of Chinese monitoring equipments, skin protective equipments, respiratory preventive equipments. A protective system is put forward at the end of the paper.

Iron is an essential nutrient that not only participates in cell oxidative phosphorylation, DNA synthesis and replication, but also regulates cancer associated genes through hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF).In the process of cancerization, cells change the way of iron metabolism resulting in a high consumption of iron.In this case, pathways of iron acquisition, efflux, storage and regulation are perturbed.Therefore, iron can significantly contribute to tumor growth, cell survival and metastasis.In this paper, we summarize the iron changes in cancer cells and the relationship between the changes and tumorigenesis.We also briefly state the potential problems of current clinical using iron chelating agents in oncotherapy.Targeting iron metabolic pathways may provide new tools for cancer prognosis and therapy.

OBJECTIVE To find out some risk factors of the aged mental patients′ nosocomial infection and supply theoryetical basis for the control measures of nosocomial infection.METHODS By using the target detecction, the nosocomial infection and the risk factors in the senile psychiatry department were investigated.RESULTS There were 878 cases of nosocomial infection.From them 48 cases were with nosocomial infection.The infection rate was 5.5%.The long stay in hospital,the aged and the complication of underlying diseases were the important risk factors.CONCLUSIONS There are many risk factors of nosocomial infection in the senile psychiatry department.Take measures in advance will effectively decrease the nosocomial infection.

Objective To study a protective apparel with protective suit and protective mask in order to protect the operators using new HAN propellant in the course of storage, transportation and filling-up. Methods According to the character of it, polyurethane-coated (PU)polyester fabric was applied in the main part of protective suit and mask, and then anti-fog technology to deal with PU as window material. Results The performance test and probation evaluation of the protective apparel were met relevant standards of the technical specifications. Conclusion Through reasonable structure designing, the defects in the protective apparel were overcome such as bad permeability and large load. The protective apparel was characteristized by portable, comfortable, practical and so on. Furthermore, it enriches the protective system for the liquid propellant.
