1.Progress of new-generation genome editing mediated by engineered endonucleases.

Genome editing refers to the experimental methods to targeted modify specific loci in the genomic DNA sequence. In recent years, engineered endonucleases, including ZFN, TALEN and CRISPR/Cas, have been developed as a new-generation genome editing technique, and greatly improved the feasibility of gene function analyses, gene therapy, etc. Here, we briefly summarize the basic principle, developmental process and applications of this technology.

2.Dr. GUAN Zun-hui's Clinical Experience in Treating Simple Obesity by Acupuncture
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science 2003;1(6):6-8
Objective The clinical effects of acupuncture and massaging abdomen with salt the treatment of simple obesity was observed. Methods: Eighty cases were randomized into two groups: treatment group in which 40 cases were treated by acupuncture and massaging abdomen with salt and control group in which another 40 cases were treated by conventional acupuncture. Their effects were observed and compared. Results: The clinical cure rate and marked effective rate in treatment group were significantly higher than in control group (P<0.01). Conclusion: The clinical effects in the treatment group are much better than those in the control group.

7.The present status and prospect of antiepileptic drugs

Epilepsy is one of the five major neuropsychiatric diseases on which the World Health Organization focuses. New treatment methods are emerging, such as neuromodulation and radiofrequency ablation to remove lesions and precise treatment for gene mutation. However, antiepileptic drug therapy is still the first choice mostly. Since potassium bromide was applicated in epilepsy in 1857, which opened the prelude to the development of modern antiepileptic drugs, more than 20 kinds of antiepileptic drugs have been used in clinical practice. This article reviews the present status and future development of antiepileptic drugs at home and abroad.
8.Survival and Pathway of Regenerative Motoneurons after Brachial Plexus Root Injury

ObjectiveTo observe the survival and pathway of regenerative axons of spinal motoneurons following root injury of brachial plexus (BPI) and to investigate the correlation between the pathway of regenerative axons and the recovery of motor function. Methods48 adult male SD rats were randomly divided into four groups: crush group, cut group, avulsion group and the control group. 2 months later, the functional recovery was evaluated with Grooming test. Fluorogold labeled regenerative motoneurons retrogradely when injected into the motor or sensory branch of musculocutaneous nerve. 3 d later, the C5-8 spinal cord were harvested and the regenerative motoneurons were counted. The survival neurons were counted with neutral red staining. ResultsThe number of survival neurons in the cut group (1005±89) were more than that of the avulsion group (881±76), but less than the crush group (1126±25). The control group was the most (1900±39). The regenerative motoneurons reinnervated motor branch were much more than that of the sensory branch in all groups. For the Grooming test, the grade in the crush group (3.42) was much higher than that of the avulsion (1.75) and cut (1.75) group. ConclusionRegenerative axons of spinal motoneurons reinnervate the motor branch after BPI. The number of survival neurons is different after different injuries, which associated with the motor functional recovery.
9.Advance in studies on effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma in relieving purgative activity of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma.

Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, as a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely applied in clinic. Its major purgative constituent is anthraquinones, which are believed to be a toxic ingredient. Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma has been reputed as the best alexipharmic to moderate medicine natures. In this paper, the effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma in relieving purgative activity of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma was studied in two aspects--the boiling process and intestinal metabolism; Studies on combined administration of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma and Rhei Radix et Rhizoma in recent years were summarized according to chemical constituent, intestinal flora, I/II phase metabolism and drug transport. However, the material basis and mechanism for their compatibility remain unclear, further studies will be made in the future.
