To discuss the protective effect of aralosides (AS) on I/R-induced rat myocardial injury. The adult rat ventricular myocyte ischemia model was established through perfusion with sodium lactate perfusate and reperfusion with Ca(2+) -containing Tyrode's solution simulation. The cell contraction and ion concentration synchronization determination system was applied to detect the effect of AS on single I/R cell contraction and Ca2+ transients. According to the findings, AS could increase resting sarcomere length, contraction amplitude, ± dL/dt(max), calcium transient amplitude and speed of post-reperfusion myocardial cells (P < 0.05, P < 0.01), and decrease in time for achieving 90.0% of maximum relaxation, time for achieving peak value, resting calcium ratio, contraction period [Ca2+] i, time for achieving 50.0% of maximum relaxation and attenuation rate of intracellular calcium transient (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Therefore, it is suggested that AS improved the post-reperfusion cell contraction and injury of calcium homeostasis.

Objective To analyze slowly the digestibility and postprandial glycemic response after consum of different cereal starch. Method Starch was quantified into different nutritional fractions using the in vitro Englyst test. Ten healthy subjects consumed 7 kinds of carbohydrate foods with 50 g normal maize starch, waxy maize starch, wheat starch, sticky rice starch, rice starch, potato starch or glucose. Blood samples from postprandial zero to 120 min after consumption of test materials were collected for measurement of glucose, glycemic index and extended glycemic index. Results Native cereal starch was ideal slowly digestible starch (SDS) and the proportion of SDS was about 50% based on Englyst test. The GI value of cereal starch was more than 90% and belonged to high glycemic index foods, but EGI was positive, regarding glucose powder as 100%. Conclusion Cereal starch with slow digestibility and similar glycemic response was a better carbohydrate material to provide a slow and prolonged release of blood glucose and maintenance of glucose homeostasis, which was potentially beneficial to health.

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of hydrocortisone sodium succinate for treatment of septic shock patients and their prognoses. Methods A prospective case control study was conducted. 49 patients with septic shock in the Department of Emergency of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University were enrolled from January 2010 to January 2012,and the patients were sequentially divided into two groups, the treatment group(24 cases)and the control group(25 cases),by the difference in odd or even number. All patients in the two groups accepted the conventional treatment. The treatment group additionally received hydrocortisone sodium succinate injection 200 mg,once a day for 5 days. The levels of serum procalcitonin(PCT),C-reactive protein(CRP)were measured in all the patients before treatment and 24 hours,72 hours and 7 days after treatment. The mortalities were compared in 14 days between the two groups. Results The levels of PCT,CRP before and 24 hours after treatment were not statistically significant different from those of pre-treatment in two groups(all P>0.05). PCT and CRP were decreased at 72 hours and 7 days after treatment in the two groups, and on the 7th day the decline was more significant, and compared with the control group, the levels of PCT and CRP in treatment group were reduced more markedly at 72 hours and on the 7th day〔PCT(μg/L):72 hours 9.73±2.10 vs. 12.36±2.56,7 days 5.33±2.05 vs. 8.76±1.78;CRP(μg/L):72 hours 69.12±13.61 vs. 109.68±16.16,7 days 20.16±9.64 vs. 42.32±13.16,all P<0.05〕. But the mortality in 14 days was not statistically significant different between control group and treatment group(52.0%vs. 45.8%,P>0.05). Conclusion The treatment with hydrocortisone sodium succinate can reduce the inflammation of patients with septic shock, thus it has clinical value in the improvement of the disease situation.

BACKGROUND: Nano-hydroxyapatite (Nano-HA) has been shown to be a good choice of bone repair material owing to its salts composition consistent with natural bone and its scaffold structure homothetic to natural bone structure. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of nano-HA in repair of jaw bone defect in rabbits. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Materials-based animal experimental observation was performed at Laboratory Animal Center of Jiamusi University and Beijing Ji Shui Tan Hospital between January 2003 and June 2005. MATERIALS: Neutralization reaction of calcium biphosphate and calcium hydroxide was used to construct the system. The reactants were managed to be cotloidal by reaction control and using appropriate nucleating agents. Acerata HA crystal obtained under different conditions was sintered to obtain the nano-HA granule with a diameter of 1-56 nm. METHODS: Twenty-four healthy Chinese Harbin rabbits were randomly and evenly divided into an experimental group and a control group. After anesthesia, a penetrating 1.5 cm x1.5 cm defect was made with the GX micro-drill at the mandibular edge in each rabbit. Nano-HA was implanted in defects of the experimental group, and common HA was used in the control group. Antibiotics were used for 5 days afterwards. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Change in bone mineral density after implantation of nano-HA. RESULTS: After repair of bone defect, the bone mineral density in the expedmental group increased gradually to a normal level and tended to be stable; whereas it was gradually decreased in the control group. There was significant difference between the experimental and control groups (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Nano-HA can promote new bone maturation, and this material produces favorable results in repair of bone defects.
