Objective To study the influence of sivelestat sodium on platelets activity, injury and count during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB)in dogs. Methods Twelve adult health dogs were randomly divided into control group (group C,n=6)and sivelestat sodium group (group S,n=6). Sivelestat sodium at 15 mg/kg was administrated intravenously before the establishment of CPB and then was maintained intravenously at 10 mg·kg-1·h-1 to the end of CPB in the group S,and the same volume of saline was used in the group S.The levels of neutrophil elastase (NE),malondialdehyde (MDA),granular membrane protein-140 (GMP-140),thromboxaneB2 (TXB2 ),the count of plate-lets and the hematocrit (Hct)were measured before CPB,15 and 45 min after cross-clamping and 30, and 60 min after aortic unclamping in both groups. Results The levels of NE,GMP-140,TXB2 at T2-T5 and MDA at T3-T5 were significantly higher than those at T1 in both groups;moreover the lev-els were significantly lower in group S than group C (P<0.05).The levels of Plt at T2-T5 were sig-nificantly lower than those at T1 in both groups;moreover the levels were significantly higher in group S than group C (P <0.05).Conclusion Sivelestat sodium reduced the levels of plasma NE, MDA,GMP-140,TXB2 inhibited the activation of Plt,and decreased the injury and consumption of Plt,which presents the protective effects for Plt during CPB.

Exposure to low-dose radiation (LDR,mostly less than 100 mGy) may reduce the vulnerability of exposed tissues to subsequent high-dose radiation (HDR)-induced damage,a phenomenon known as adaptive responses, which occurs via mechanisms including anti-inflammation and anti-oxidation.Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking, and behavior.Using the available literature, this review will examine whether there is any effect of LDR on AD.The available evidence shows that although LDR can alter the expression of some genes related to AD such as Apbb1,Lrp1,and Il1α,these alterations do not cause AD-like syndromes in animals, suggesting that LDR may also simultaneously upregulate several protective mechanisms that prevent the eventual development of AD.Furthermore,LDR seems capable of improving the symptoms of AD,as evidenced by the experience of an 81-year-old female AD patient. This patient was diagnosed with AD more than 10 years ago and gradually progressed to advanced AD in 2015,despite routine treatment. The patient then received about 12 computed tomography scans (about 40 mGy each) up until Nov.2017,which significantly improved her quality of life and reduced several AD symptoms. The improvement in this patient's medical condition led to a few recent clinical trials investigating the effects of LDR on AD.To date, there is no efficient therapy available for AD,thus whether exposure to LDR at 100 mGy can provide a preventive or therapeutic effect for AD is an important issue. If LDR is a potential treatment for AD,as suggested by this reported case, this non-invasive approach would also bear the merit that it would be unlikely to cause a significant radiation health risk,as the LDR could be delivered locally to the head without any impact on other organs.

Microbiology 1992;0(06):-
N-carbamoylase is a part of hydantoinase operon which can transform N-carbamoylamino acid to corresponding ammo acids. The L-N-carbamoylase of Arthrobacter BT801, codied by the HyuC gene, is the rate-limiting and the only stereoselective enzyme. HyuC DNA fragment was amplified by PCR from the plasmid of pUC18-169. The target fragment was introduced into pPIC3. 5K plasmid to construct the pPIC3. 5K-hyuC expressing vector which was then transduced into Pichia pastoris GS115 cells after being linearized by BglⅡ digestion. Multi-copies insertion transformants were screened on G418 plates. The recombinant protein was proved to have biological activity of hydrolyzing N-carbamoylphenylalanine into phenylalanine through enzyme activity determination.

Objective To evaluate the effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) combined with drug therapy on patients with delayed encephalopathy caused by carbon monoxide poisoning ( COP). Methods Twenty to forty sessions of HBO therapy were used to treat 34 COP patients. Assessment relied on 99mTc-ethyl cysteinate dimer (~(99m)Tc-ECD) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging of cerebral perfusion before and after treatment. Results After HBO therapy, cerebral perfusion in the COP patients improved significantly. There was a significant difference of the SPECT images before and after treatment. Conclusions SPECT imaging of cerebral perfusion can play an important role in the diagnosis of delayed encephalopathy caused by carbon monoxide poisoning, and it can be used for the therapeutic surveillance of HBO treatment.
