Chinese Journal of Medical Aesthetics and Cosmetology 2001;0(05):-
Objective To treat the sunken upper eyelids in the midd le and older patients with a modified procedure so as to improve esthetic appeara nce of the patients. Methods Autolipoparticles collected from patients' abdomen were injected into the sunken upper eyelids beneath the o rbital septum. 3ml of the lipoparticles were injected for each upper eyelid as u sual. The blepharoplasty was also performed for most of the patients with lower eyelids bag before or during the operation. Results The decrepit phenomena of eyes in all the patients were improved by the operations. Owing to the phenomena that the sunken upper eyelids were associated with the fa t bags of lower eyelid in most patients, it was inferable that the sunken upper eyelids were probably caused by the tissues ptosis in the orbit. Con clusions The sunken upper eyelids associated with fat bags of lower eyelids are the decrepit phenomena of eyes in middle age and old people. The sun ken upper eyelids can be corrected by the method of autolipoparticle injection. After the operation the appearance of patients' eyes is obviously improved. The method is easily performed and its curative effect is reliable.

Objective It would make a reconstructed ear more naturally when deep temporal fascia, which is much thinner, cover the MEDPOR ear framework instead of superficial temporal fascia. However, without an axial vascular supply, should skingraft be taken on the islanded deep temporal fascia flap? Perhaps this fascia flap could get a new blood supply from the underlying superficial temporal fascia through the porous framework after a period of time. This study was to test its possibility. Methods A piece of 30?15?2mm MEDPOR material was inserted between superficial and deep fascia on the back of a rabbit. In control group, skin graft on the deep surface of deep fascia was operated at once; in experiment group, the incision was sutured and the skin graft was operated 3 weeks later in the same incision. Results Skin grafts were taken in all the 6 rabbits in the experiment group. 80%~100% of necrosis occurred in all the 6 rabbits of control group. Conclusion Without an axial vascular supply, skin graft can not survive on the islanded deep fascia flap. This fascia flap can get a new blood supply from the underlying superficial fascia through the porous MEDPOR material, through which small vessels grow between the two fascia after 3 weeks.

Objective To study the MRI features of pituitary lesions in children with short stature caused by growth hormone de-ficiency.Methods The MRI findings of clinical and pathological confirmed pituitary lesions in 40 children were retrospectively re-viewed.All cases had 3.0T MRI examination. Results The pituitary lesions included hypoplasia of antehypophysis (25 cases),pitu-itary stalk interruption syndrome (3 cases),pituitary atrophy after craniopharyngioma excision (2 cases)and pituitary hyperplasia (10 cases).MRI of antehypophysis hypoplasia showed that the height of antehypophysis was less than normal.Pituitary stalk inter-ruption syndrome showed not only hypoplasia of antehypophysis, but also absence or marked thinning of pituitary stalk and ectopic bright signal of posterior pituitary lobe on T1 WI.Atrophy of the pituitary was seen after resection of craniopharyngioma, and the stalk was unclear. All of the pituitary hyperplasia were caused by hypothyroidism.MRI of pituitary hyperplasia displayed antehy-pophysis enlargement and upward apophysis symmetrically. There were no pituitary stalk interruption, translocation and abnormal signal. The pituitary hyperplasia had obvious homogeneous enhancement.Pituitary gland reduced in size after replacement therapy. Conclusion MRI can show the features of pituitary lesions in children with short stature caused by growth hormone deficiency clear-ly.Correct diagnosis can be made and the therapeutic effect can be monitored combining with clinical manifestation.

BACKGROUND:The occurrence and severity of denture stomatitis are closely related to denture cleaning methods and wearing time. Therefore, it is of great significance to explore the effects of denture cleansers on denture surface roughness and color stability.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of four different denture cleansers on the surface roughness and color stability of heat-curing denture base resins and elastic denture base materials by means of soaking test.METHODS: Samples of heat-curing denture base resins (n=25) and elastic denture base materials (n=25) were polished and soaked in NaClO, Efferdent, Polident partial, Polident overnight and water, respectively. The soak process was repeated 90 times. Then the color aberration and surface roughness were tested using color meter and roughmeter before soaking and after 30, 60, 90 times of soaking.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:These four kinds of denture cleansers have greater influence on the elastic denture base materials than on the heat-curing denture base resins. With the increasing of soaking time, the color aberration and surface roughness of the two kinds of denture materials were increased gradualy after treatment with different denture cleansers, and the values were ranked as follows: NaClO > Efferdent > Polident overnight > Polident partial and water. To conclude, denture cleansers can induce the changes in denture surface roughness and color stability of heat-curing denture base resins and elastic denture base materials. NaClO exerts the strongest effect, followed by Efferdent and Polident overnight, and Polident partial exhibits the weakest effect.

OBJECTIVE On the basis of the different shapes of upper airway(UA)obstruction and collapse characteristic of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS), the effect of modified uvulopalatopharyngoplasty(UPPP)combined with coblation in OSAHS operations on patients with AHI≥20,which could be done selectively to patients with various or multiple UA obstructive sites, was explored. METHODS 30 patients of OSAHS were diagnosed and analysed by polysomnography(PSG)to have AHIs≥20. Based on the shapes of their UAs classified according to the degree of the shortened lateral and radial vectors, the UPPP was modified in two ways: either the lateral vector or the radial vector was amplified, or both could be amplified with coblation. All patients were analyzed by questionnaires(PSG)Muller's maneuver and oral cavity measurement pre-and 6 months post-operation. RESULTS 86.7 % of the patients showed a decrease of at least 25 % in AHI . Velopalatal insufficiency never occurred. CONCLUSION The modified-UPPP combined with coblation can be used selectively on patients based on their UA shapes.

Objective Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is widely used as a spice in cooking and as a medicinal herb in traditional herbal medicine. The present study was to investigate the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of ginger oil in experimental animal models. Methods The analgesic effect of the oils was evaluated by the acetic acid and hot-plate test models of pain in mice. The anti-inflammatory effect of the oil was investigated in rats, using rat paw edema induced by carrageenan, adjuvant arthritis, and vascular permeability induced by bradykinin, arachidonic acid, and histamine. Indomethacin (1 mg/kg), Aspirin (0.5 g/kg) and Dexamethasone (2.5 mg/kg) were used respectively as reference drugs for comparison. Results The ginger oil (0.25-1.0 g/kg) produced significant analgesic effect against chemically- and thermally-induced nociceptive pain stimuli in mice (P < 0.05, 0.01). And the ginger oil (0.25-1.0 g/kg) also significantly inhibited carrageenan-induced paw edema, adjuvant arthritis, and inflammatory mediators-induced vascular permeability in rats (P < 0.05, 0.001). Conclusion These findings confirm that the ginger oil can be used to treat pain and chronic inflammation such as rheumatic arthritis.
