1.NUTRITIONAL EVALUATION OF SEVERAL WEANING FOODS

In this study the nutritive value of 4 kinds of weaning foods containing soyflour were measured by chemical and animals experiments. The 4 experimental weaning foods were:1.This formula was developed by the Institute of Health collaborating the First Food Factory of Beijing. It was produced by the Factory and the trade name is "Baobao Le" The soybean was processed by the infra-red light.2.This formula was recommended by UNICEF (Formula No. 5). Soybean flour was treatded with the extruded method.3.This formula was the same as No. 2 (UNICEF Formula No. 5). In which the soybean was wet-heat treated. No. 2 and 3 samples were produced by Wu Xi Light Industry College.4.This formula was developed by the Institute of Shanghai Food Industry as formula D. Puffed soybean flour was used.The 2 control foods were:5.This formula was based on formula "5410". The sample was made by the First Food Factory of Beijing (trade name, "Nutritive Baby Powder").6.Infant Milk Powder, produced by the Child Milk Factory of Shuang Cheng Xian, Hei Long Jiang Province, cow's milk powder was used as the main source of protein. The protein content of the products were:No. 1 and 4, 19.0%, equal to the protein requirement for weaning foods; No.2 and 3, 15.8%, lower than No.1 and 4; Infant Milk Powder, 15.1%; Nutritive Baby Powder, 17.0%.From the results of the animal experiment on weaning rats with respect to growth, after 9 weeks of feeding, the average body weight of control group 5 and 6 increased by 185.8 and 180.5g respectively, which were significantly higher than 146.7 and 150.4g of the experimental groups No. 1 and 4. While the increased body weight of No. 1 and 4 were higher than group 2 and 3 (79.8g and 113.1g respectively). The increase of body lengths were of the same order of the 6 groups as that in body weight.Blood hemoglobin values were all normal (control groups 13.4 and 13.9g per 100 ml; experimental groups 13.9, 14.2, 13.0 and 13.0g).The weight of pancreas in the 4 experimental groups were all normal. It showed that the activity of trypsin inhibitor had been destroyed. Weights of thyroid of the rats were all within the normal range except group 1,2,3, which were a little bit heavier. Potassium iodide was.added into formula 1,2 and 3, to prevent hyperthyroidism but since potassium iodide is easily to evaporate, so it would be perferable to use potassium iodate instead.The above results indicated that the growth promoting effect of the 4 weaning foods is lower than the two baby powder, but they are good weaning foods for baby after six months. "Baobao Le" and formula No 6 are much better.
2.Protective effects of Zhenbao pill on acute spinal cord injury

Objective To explore the protective effect of Zhenbao pill on acute spinal cord injury of rat and its possible mechanisms.Methods 64 Wistar rats were randomly divided into a injury group and a drug group, with 32 rats in each group, A T10 acute incomplete spinal cord injury model was produced by using modified Allen technique in the two groups,Zhenbao pill mixed suspension of 0.6 g/kg was given by gavage method daily in the drug group 30 min after moding, the same amount of saline was given in the injury group. Behavior detection were conducted in the first day, third day, and the seventh day after modeling to each 8 rats of the two groups. Spinal cord specimens was got centered about the damage points after rats were executed. histopathological changes were observed under HE staining, the MDA content were determined by thiobarbituric acid spectrophotometer and the apoptotic cells were marked by TUNEL method.Results After 1, 3, 7 d, compared with the injury group, the MDA level in the rat spinal cord tissue in the drug group (15.12 ± 1.27 nmol/mgvs.19.71 ± 1.29 nmol/mg, 20.42 ± 1.33 nmol/mgvs.24.65 ±1.36 nmol/mg, 10.46±1.49 nmol/mg vs.15.46 ± 1.44 nmol/mg) decreased(P<0.05); the apoptosis rate of drug groups (19.61% ± 1.49%vs.26.61% ±1.52%, 21.49% ± 1.37% vs.32.37% ± 1.24%, 13.04% ± 1.30%vs.18.35% ± 1.27%)decreased (P<0.05); the BBB score of drug groups (6.52 ± 1.27vs. 2.63 ± 1.27), (12.68 ± 1.32 vs.6.17 ± 1.34), (15.47 ± 1.27 vs.11.57 ± 1.29) was higher than the injury group (P<0.05). Conclusion Zhenbao pill can significantly improve the histopathological examination,reduce the MDA content in the injured spinal cord specimen of the rat and the rate of neuronal apoptosis, which may promote recovery of neurologic function in the rat suffered from ASCI.
3.A dose-finding study of spinal ropivacaine when combined with fentanyl for cesarean section

Objective To investigate the dose-response relationship of spinal ropivacaine when it is combined with spinal fentanyl 20 ?g for cesarean section. Methods Sixty ASA Ⅰ-Ⅱ full-term nulliparous women undergoing cesarean section under combined spinal-epidural anesthesia (CSE) were randomized to receive spinal fentanyl 20?g and ropivacaine 10 mg (group A, n = 20) or 13 mg (group B, n = 20) or 15 mg (group C, n = 20) . Spinal puncture was performed at L2-3 interspace. A catheter was inserted 3 cm in the epidural space cephalad. If spinal analgesia was inadequate 2 % lidocaine was given epidurally. The clinical efficacy was rated based on analgesia, muscle relaxation and visceral traction response as Ⅰ-Ⅳ (Ⅰ= worst, Ⅳ= best). The probit log dose-response relationship was determined. The ED50 and ED95 of ropivacaine for spinal anesthesia when combined with spinal fentanyl 20 ?g were calculated. Complications such as hypotension, nausea, vomiting and shivering were recorded. Results The three groups were comparable with respect to age, sex, body weight, height and duration of operation. 4.Effect of miR-375 on viability, cell cycle and apoptosis of colon cancer HCT116 cells

[ ABSTRACT] AIM:To investigate the effect of microRNA-375 ( miR-375) on the viability, cell cycle and apop-tosis of HCT116 cells.METHODS: The expression of miR-375 in different colorectal cancer cell lines was detected by real-time PCR.The miR-375 mimics was transfected into HCT116 cells by LipofectamineTM 2000.The mRNA expression of miR-375 and AEG-1 was detected by real-time PCR.The HCT116 cell viability was detected by MTT assay.The changes of apoptosis and cell cycle distribution were analyzed by flow cytometry.RESULTS:Real-time PCR showed that miR-375 expression was the lowest in HCT116 among 4 colorectal cancer cell lines.The expression level of miR-375 significantly in-creased in miR-375 mimics group compared with that in the negative control group.The high expression level of miR-375 significantly inhibited the mRNA expression of AEG-1.After transfection with miR-375 mimics, the cell viability was in-hibited, the apoptotic rate was increased, the proportion of G1-stage cells was increased, and the proportion of S-stage cells was decreased.CONCLUSION:miR-375 inhibits the viability, mediates the cell cycle arrest and promotes the apoptosis of colon cancer HCT116 cells.miR-375 may act as a tumor suppressor in colorectal cancer by inhibiting AEG-1.
5.Experimental study on precaution osteoporosis by the increase of cerebrospinal fluid leptin level on rabbit model

Objective To explore effect of increasing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leptin level by administration from the foramen magnum to the cerebellum medulla oblongata pool in osteoporosis in rabbit model established by ovariectomy (OVX) and methylprednisolones.Methods According to certain inclusion and exclusion criteria,30 adult rabbits which were healthy 5-month-old female New Zealand white rabbits with the same batch and weight were divided into 5 groups (n=6) with random number table,including control group,normal saline group,Low dose group,middle dose group and high dose group.The animal model of osteoporosis (OP) was established 8 weeks after ovariectomy (bilateral ovarian resection) and intramuscular injection of methylprednisolone daily for 8 consecutive weeks in all groups.The control group were only simulated puncture and didn't inject any drugs or normal saline,the normal saline group were intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection with NS and Low,Middle and High dose group injected with low,middle and high dose of leptin respectively at 0,3,7 days after OVX.Before (0 week) and 4,8 weeks after the operation,the measure of dual energy X-ray absorptiometry was done on all the rabbits femur and bone mineral density (BMD) was delivered.Before (0 week) and 4,8 weeks after the first administration,leptin in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum growth hormone (GH),insulin growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and osteocalcin (OT/BGP) were tested with Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and serum calcium,phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) with automatic biochemical analyzer (ACA).The rabbits were sacrificed and the thalamus and femoral neck were harvested to test the expression of leptin receptor (LEPR) in thalamus and bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) and type Ⅰ collagen (Col Ⅰ) at 8 weeks after the first administration.Results Compared with the control group and NS group,the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leptin concentration of leptin administration groups kept in a higher level significantly at 4 and 8 weeks after leptin administration,it was positively correlated with the concentration of administration.After administration 4 and 8 weeks,the bone mineral density (BMD) of leptin administration groups were not significantly lower than that of non-administration groups,and the high dose group was unchanged.The serum osteocalcin/bone glad protein (OT/BGP) concentration of leptin administration groups decreased more significantly compared with the non-administration groups at 4 weeks after leptin administration;and it rebounded more significantly than the non-administration groups and low dose group rebounded more significantly than other non-administration groups at 8 weeks.The concentration of serum growth hormone (GH) of 5 groups showed a downward trend at 4 and 8 weeks,the serum GH concentration of leptin administration groups decreased more significantly than the non-administration groups.The concentration of serum insulin-like growth IGF-1 of 5 groups were decreased significantly at 4 weeks,and the serum IGF-1 concentration of control and low dose groups were significantly higher than other 3 groups at 8weeks.Compared with the non-administration groups,the concentration of serum Calcium of leptin administration groups were increased more obvious,and it was positively correlated with the concentration of administration.Serum phosphorus of 5 groups were decreased at 4 weeks and elevated at 8 weeks;there was no difference among the groups.Serum ALP showed a continuous downward trend,and the middle dose group decreased significantly compared with other groups at 4 and 8 weeks.RTPCR results showed that the BMP-2 and Col Ⅰ mRNA expression increased and positively correlated with leptin administration concentration at 8weeks.Conclusion The increase of cerebrospinal fluid leptin level can promote the bone metabolism,reduce bone loss and precaution the occurrence of osteoporosis in rabbit model caused by OVX and methylprednisolone,and it was positively correlated with the concentration of administration.That provides a new method for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in rabbit model.
6.Medical Support for Peacekeeping Operations——Employment, Maintenance and Repair of Medical Equipment

Chinese peacekeeping medical team established a Level II Hospital on Liberia in 2004. Peacekeeping medical teams abide by varieties rules on medical service support and establish management and maintenance system of medical instrument. More than 95% medical equipment is still kept in good condition after four years and the routine rate of self-maintenance of small medical equipments can be reached 95%. All the medical equipment have passed the half-yearly verification of ORI by UN, the experience have great value for future similar missions.
7.Effect of Intracerebroventricular Leptin Injection on Limbs Fracture Healing

Objective To investigate the enhanced osteogenesis during bone fracture healing after intracerebroven-tricular (ICV) leptin injection, using rabbit model with created segmental bone defect in right tibial. Method Segmental critical-sized defects were created at the right tibial bone of skeletally mature New Zealand white rabbits. In experiment group (leptin group), recombinant rabbit leptin was injected into cerebellomedullary cistern through foramen magnum. While in control group, normal saline was injected in the same way. Bone Mineral Density (BMD) was evaluated by qCT at 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th and the 21st days. At the 21st days, all rabbits were euthanized to collect the right tibia for histomorphology, to ex-amine the BMP-2 expression in the bone callus by Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Result In the leptin group, body weight declined more obviously than control group then it start to arise at the 14th day;qCT showed significant higher BMD in leptin group than in control group at the 7th day;FISH showed a higher BMP-2 expression in leptin group than in control group. Conclusion Cerebellomedullary leptin injection through foramen magnum could accelerate limb fracture healing in rabbit model with right tibial bone defection.

9.Treatment of surgical brain injury with immune tolerance induced by intrathymic injection of brain antigen

Objective To determine the effect of induction of immune tolerance by intrathymic injection of myelin basic protein (MBP) for treatment of surgical brain injury (SBI) in rats.Methods Twenty-four male SD rats were divided into experimental group,control group and sham group with 8 rats each,according to the random number table.SBI model was established in experimental group and control group.Thymuses were exposed and injected with MBP (experimental group) or saline (control group) respectively.Sham group received craniotomy without durotomy and thymus paracentesis.Modified neurological severity score (MNSS),cerebral edema volume,levels of peripheral blood proinflammatory cytokine interleukin (IL)-2 and anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-4,and CD4 +/CD8 + T-cell ratio were measured at postoperative 1,3,7,14 and 21 d.Results MNSS between control and experimental groups differed significantly at each time point (P < 0.05).Compared to sham group,MNSS in experimental group was recovered the same value at 21 d (P > 0.05),but in control group remained high over the study (P < 0.05).Less cerebral edema was observed in control and experimental groups than in control group at each time point (P < 0.05),but all were lower than these in sham group (P < 0.05).Lower IL-2 concentrations and higher IL-4 concentrations were observed in experimental group than in control group at 3,7 and 14 d (P <0.05).Compared to sham group,IL-2 concentrations in experimental group and IL-4 concentrations in control group revealed no significant differences at each time point (P >0.05).CD4 +/CD8 + T-cell ratio between experimental group and control group revealed significant difference at 1,7 and 14 d (P <0.05).CD4 +/CD8 + T-cell ratio in experimental group and control group recovered to the same level in sham group at 7 and 21 d(P > 0.05).Conclusion Induction of immune tolerance through intrathymic injection of MBP can reduce neurological deficit and brain edema and facilitate the recovery of function from SBI.
10.Separate vertical wiring combined with anchor suture for comminuted fractures of the inferior patellar pole

Objective To report surgical outcomes of managing comminuted fractures of the inferior patellar pole with separate vertical wiring plus anchor suture fixation.Methods From January 2010 to January 2015,37 patients with comminuted fractures of the inferior patellar pole were treated with separate vertical wiring and anchor suture fixation.They were 15 men and 22 women,from 32 to 76 years of age (average,55.1 years).The intervals from fracture to surgery ranged from 2 to 3 days (average,2.1 days).According to the AO classification,all the fractures were type 34-A1.The visual analogue scale (VAS) scores,ranges of motion (ROM) of the knee,Bostman scores and postoperative complications were recorded at 6 weeks,3,6 and 12 months and the final follow-up postoperatively.Results The follow-up time for the 37 patients averaged 16 months (range,from 12 to 23 months).The fracture union time averaged 10 weeks after surgery (range,from 8 to 13 weeks).At postoperative 6 weeks,3,6 and 12 months and the final follow-up,respectively,the average VAS scores were 2.5,1.1,0.3,0.2 and 0.2 points,the average ranges of motion 109.5°,123.7°,128.6°,129.1° and 132.5°,and the average Bostman scores 23.7,26.9,29.1,29.4 and 29.6 points.No patient reported delayed union,nonunion,loss of reduction,wire breakage,wound problem or irritation from the implant.Conclusion Separate vertical wiring combined with anchor suture fixation is a useful technique for comminuted fractures of the inferior patellar pole,for it is easy to perform,allows early functional exercise and leads to fine curative outcomes.
