Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;19(21):3297-3301
BACKGROUND:Oyster shels and other shels of marine organisms can transfer into mineral salts, which is closer to the actual situation of human being. OBJECTIVE:To explore the effect of natural oyster shel nanocomposite material for bone defect repair. METHODS:Thirty adult big-eared white rabbits were randomly divided into two groups after establishment of bilateral radial bone defect models: experimental group and control group were given implantation of natural oyster shel nanocomposite material and injectable calcium sulfate bone graft, respectively. X-ray examination was done at weeks 2, 8, 12 after implantation to understand the osseointegration of bone grafts. Bilateral radial bone specimens were taken at 12 weeks to detect bending strength using biomechanical testing system and quantitatively analyze the osteogenesis using a color image analyzer. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:At 2 weeks after implantation, the bone mineral density of bone grafts was lower in the two groups than the normal value, there was a clear boundary between the defect and graft, and no bone repair was found. At 8 weeks after implantation, the bone grafts were covered with thick soft tissues in the two groups, and the vascular component was reduced dramaticaly in the experimental group. At 12 weeks after implantation, the bone grafts were closely connected to the adjacent tissues in the two groups, with no boundary; the radius surface in the experimental group recovered to the normal level, and exhibited no difference from the normal tissues in aspects of morphology, texture and structure, but in the control group, there was stil a clear projected boundary. The bending strength and osteogenic amount of the radius were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group (P < 0.05). These findings indicate that the natural oyster shel nanocomposite material for bone defect repair can have a good blending strength of the radius that can promotenew bone formation.

OBJECTIVETo observe the clinical efficacy and safety on moderate and severe persistent allergic rhinitis treated with acupuncture.
METHODSSixty-six patients of moderate and severe persistent allergic rhinitis were randomized into an acupuncture group (34 cases) and a western medication group (32 cases). In the acupuncture, group, acupuncture was applied to Dazhui (GV 14), Feishu (BL 13), Pishu (BL 20), Ganshu (BL 18) and Shenshu (BL 23) in the prone, retained for 20 min; then in the supine, at Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (GV 29), yingxiang (LI20) Taichong (LR 3) and Hegu (LI 4), retained for 20 min. Acupuncture was given once every two days, three times a week, continuously for 8 weeks. In the western medication group, cetirizine hydrochloride was taken orally, 10 mg each time, once every day, continuously for 8 weeks. Separately, before treatment, after the treatment of 1 and 2 months and in 1 month after treatment, the total nasal symptom score (TNSS), the scores in the emotion rating scale for Ganzangxiang of TCM (ERSG) and the rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire (RQLQ) were observed in the patients of the two groups. The clinical efficacy was compared between the two groups.
RESULTS(1) For TNSS, the results after 1 and 2 months treatment and in 1 month after treatment were all, reduced as compare with that before treatment separately in the two groups (P < 0.05, P < 0.01) The result after 2 months treatment was lower than that after 1 month treatment in the acupuncture group (P < 0.05). In 1 month after treatment, the result in the acupuncture group was lower than that in the western medication group (P < 0.05). (2) For ERSG, the score after 2 months treatment was lower than that before treatment in the two groups (both P < 0.05). The score after 2 months treatment in the acupuncture group was lower than that in the western medication group (P < 0.05). (3) For RQLQ, the score after 1 month treatment was lower than that before treatment and the score after 2 months treatment was lower than that after 1 month treatment in the two groups (all P < 0.05). The score after 1 and 2 months treatment and in 1 month after treatment in the acupuncture group was lower than that in the western medication group separately (all P < 0.05). (4) The total effective rate was 91.2% (31/34) in the acupuncture group and was 90.6% (29/32) in the western medication group, without significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture is the safe and effective intervention on moderate and severe persistent allergic rhinitis. Compared with the western medicine group, the efficacy in the acupuncture group presents much more advantageous at its durability.

ObjectiveTo investigate the association of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1 alpha (PPARGC1A) rs8192678 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) with the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the influence of PPARGC1A rs8192678 SNP on NAFLD-related biochemical parameters. MethodsA total of 119 NAFLD patients who attended Qingdao Municipal Hospital Affiliated to Qingdao University from December 2017 to December 2018 were enrolled as NAFLD group, and 213 individuals who underwent physical examination during the same period of time were enrolled as control group. Clinical data and blood samples were collected from all subjects to measure related biochemical parameters and detect PPARGC1A rs8192678 SNP. The chi-square test was used to determine whether the genotype distribution of samples was in accordance with the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The t-test or the Wilcoxon rank-sum test was used for comparison of continuous data between two groups, and the chi-square test was used for comparison of categorical data between two groups. A binary logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the risk factors for NAFLD. ResultsThere were no significant differences in the genotype and allele frequencies of PPARGC1A rs8192678 between the NAFLD group and the control group (χ2=0.011 and 0.015, P=0.918 and 0.904). The binary logistic regression analysis showed that CT genotype of PPARGC1A rs8192678 was not a risk factor for NAFLD (odds ratio=0.951, 95% confidence interval: 0.368-2.457, P=0.918). In the NAFLD group, the patients carrying CT genotype had a significantly higher level of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) than those carrying CC genotype (Z=-2.331, P=0.020). ConclusionPPARGC1A rs8192678 SNP does not increase the risk of NAFLD, while NAFLD patients carrying CT genotype tend to have a higher serum level of GGT.
