Base on the Kawakita powder compression equation, a general theoretical model for predicting the compression characteristics of multi-components pharmaceutical powders with different mass ratios was developed. The uniaxial flat-face compression tests of powder lactose, starch and microcrystalline cellulose were carried out, separately. Therefore, the Kawakita equation parameters of the powder materials were obtained. The uniaxial flat-face compression tests of the powder mixtures of lactose, starch, microcrystalline cellulose and sodium stearyl fumarate with five mass ratios were conducted, through which, the correlation between mixture density and loading pressure and the Kawakita equation curves were obtained. Finally, the theoretical prediction values were compared with experimental results. The analysis showed that the errors in predicting mixture densities were less than 5.0% and the errors of Kawakita vertical coordinate were within 4.6%, which indicated that the theoretical model could be used to predict the direct compaction characteristics of multi-component pharmaceutical powders.

Objective To explore the role of stromal interaction molecule 1(STIMI)on prohteration and intra- cellular Ca~(2+)change in vascular smooth muscle ceils(VSMC).Methods Rat VSMC were isolated from SD rats and primary cultured.Ad-si/rSTIM1 and Ad-hSTIM1 were transfected into VSMC.The protein of STIM1 was measured by Western blot, the proliferation of VSMC was analyzed by ~3H-thymidine(~3H-TdR)incorporation and cell count, the intracellular Ca~(2+)change was assessed By Aquaeosmos system.Ruselts Fourty-eight hours after transfection,as compared with Ad-hSTIMI group, the Ad-si/rSTIMI VSMC had lower expression of STIM1 protein (P

Ribavirin is a broad-spectrum antiviral agent and glycyrrhizin has activities of anti-inflammation, immunoregulation and anti-viral infections. To enhance antiviral efficacy and weaken side-effects of ribavirin, antiviral effects of the combination of glycyrrhizin and ribavirin were studied in the present study. Firstly, a mouse model of viral pneumonia was established by inoculation of influenza H1N1 virus. Protective effects of glycyrrhizin and ribavirin used alone or in combination against H1N1 virus infection in mice were evaluated based on the survival rate, lung index and virus titer in lungs of mice. Results showed that the combination of glycyrrhizin and ribavirin significantly inhibited the lung consolidation with a 36% inhibition ratio on the lung swell of infected mice. The combination of the two drugs exhibited synergetic effects on survival of infected mice. The combination of 50 mg · kg(-1) · d(-1) glycyrrhizin and 40 mg · kg(-1) · d(-1) ribavirin resulted a 100% protection for infected mice with a synergetic value of 36, which was significantly higher than the control group and each drug alone. This combination also resulted a significant drop of lung virus titer (P < 0.01), as well as inhibition on the production of proinflammatory cytokines IL-6 (P < 0.01), TNF-α (P < 0.01) and IL-1β (P < 0.05) induced by virus infection compared to the control. The treatment of ribavirin plus glycyrrhizin was more effective in influenza A infection in mice than either compound used alone, which suggested a potential clinical value of the combination of the two agents.

Objective To investigate the expression of Toll-like receptor(TLR) 9 of circulating plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) and analyze the frequency and interferon (IFN)-?production of circulating pDC during hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection. Methods Peripheral blood was collected from 69 HBV-infected patients, including 14 cases of asymptomatie HBV infection,30 cases of chro- nic hepatitis B(CHB),25 cases of HBV-related liver cirrhosis, and 21 healthy blood donors as con- trols.Flow cytometry was used to analyze the frequency of circulating pDC and the mean fluorescence intensity(MFI) of TLR9.Fresh peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC) were stimulated by CpG ODN 2216 for 24 h in vitro.IFN-?in the supernatant was measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) to analyze the frequency and IFN-?production of pDC during HBV in- fection.Data were analyzed with SPSS 13.0 for windows. Results Compared with healthy controls (62.6?10.7),the MFI of TLR9 of patients with asymptomatic HBV infection, those of CHB and HBV-related cirrhosis were significantly reduced (P

Objective To investigate the effects of different Leptospira strains on phagocytosis of peritoneal macrophages of guinea pigs, and explore the role of innate immune in the pathogenesis of leptospirosis. Methods Peritoneal macrophages of guinea pigs were infected in vitro by three different Leptospira strains, the virulent Leptospira interrogans serovar Lai type strain Lai,the avirulent L.interrogans serovar Lai type strain IPAV,and the nonpathogenic L.biflexa serovar Patoc type strain PatocⅠ,respectively, and heat inactivated Staphylococcus epidermidis was added 0.5,1.5,3 and 6 h after infection and incubated for 30 min.The effect of Leptospira on the phagocytosis of macrophage was evaluated by the inactivated Staphylococcus epidermidis phagocytosis rate and phagocytosis index.Phagocytosis and ultrastructure of peritoneal macrophages were observed by transmission electron microscopy 3 h after infection, and changes of cytoskeleton of the macrophages were observed by laser scanning confocal microscopy. Results The phagocytic rates and phagocytic indexes of strain Lai,strain IPAV and strain PatocⅠinfection groups were significantly lower than those of control group 3 h and 6 h after infection(P

A digital tongue image analysis instrument (TIAI) based on computer for Traditional Chinese Medicine is introduced. Some of the key techniques, including the image acquiring condition and method, the evaluation of tongue characters, and the management of tongue image data, are discussed as well. TIAI can provide a non-invasive, quantitative, and objective analysis approach and enhance the theory level and practical ability of the Traditional Chinese tongue diagnosis.
