1.Prevalence of alcohol drinking in males aged 20-79 years in China, 2012.

Objective: To understand the prevalence of alcohol drinking in 20-79 years old males with different educational backgrounds and smoking behaviors in different areas of China. Methods: A multi-stage cluster random sampling survey was conducted in 150 surveillance sites in 2010-2012 Chinese nutrition and health surveillance in China. At least 1 000 subjects were selected in each surveillance site. Alcohol drinking prevalence and pattern information were collected by using personal health and food frequency questionnaire in face to face interviews. Results: A total of 60 791 males aged 20-79 years were surveyed. The prevalence of alcohol drinking was 57.8% (58.3% in rural area, 57.3% in urban area). The mean daily alcohol intake level was 32.7 g (33.3 g in rural area, 32.1 g in urban area). The rate of almost drinking every day and daily alcohol intake level were highest among males aged 50-59 years. Mean daily alcohol intake level, rate of almost drinking every day and excessive drinking decreased with the increase of education level. Non-smokers had higher rate of never drinking and lower prevalence of drinking and excessive drinking, lower mean daily alcohol intake level, and lower rate of almost drinking every day compared with current and past smokers. Conclusions: Alcohol drinking was common in males aged 20-79 years in China, and, the difference was not obvious between rural residents and urban residents. The differences in daily intake level of different alcohol drinks among males with different characteristics had certain significance. Significant difference in excessive drinking was found among different age groups, those with different education levels and those with different smoking history.

2.Prevalence of alcohol drinking and influencing factors in female adults in China, 2010-2012.

Objective: To understand the prevalence of alcohol drinking and influencing factors in female adults in China. Methods: At the 150 survey sites where 2010-2012 Chinese nutrition and health surveillance was conducted, a face to face questionnaire survey was conducted in female adults selected through multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling. Sample weights was assigned to each participant based on the study design by using national population census data in 2009. The complex sampling and unconditional multivariate logistics regression analysis was conducted to identify the influencing factors for the prevalence of alcohol drinking in the female adults. Results: A total of 75 518 participants were included in this study. The prevalence of drinking in female adults was 13.9% (95%CI: 11.7-16.2) in urban area and 13.3% (95%CI: 9.4-17.2) in rural area. The prevalence of frequent drinking was 13.9% (95%CI: 9.9-17.9) in women in urban area and 14.2% (95%CI: 10.8-17.6) in women in rural area. The prevalence of excessive drinking was 11.1% (95%CI: 7.5-14.8) in women in urban area and 12.8% (95%CI: 9.1-16.4) in women in rural area. The prevalence of wine drinking in women in urban area was significantly higher than in women in rural and had positive correlation with income and education levels. The social and economic factors influencing drinking behavior of the female adults included occupation, drinking behaviors of family members and smoking behavior. Those who were engaged in agriculture, production and transportation (OR=0.72, 95%CI: 0.56-0.94, P=0.016), housework (OR=0.59, 95%CI: 0.44-0.78, P<0.001) and other work (OR=0.61, 95%CI: 0.43-0.85, P=0.004) had lower drinking prevalence. Whereas those whose family members had drinking behavior (OR=2.66, 95%CI: 2.17-3.26, P<0.001) and those who were current smokers (OR=4.32, 95%CI: 2.95-6.34, P<0.01) had higher drinking prevalence. Conclusions: The prevalence of drinking, frequent alcohol drinking and excessive drinking were relatively low in female adults in China. Occupation, drinking behaviors of family members and smoking behavior were the main factors influencing the prevalence drinking behavior in female adults in China.

3.Relationship between meat consumption and metabolic syndrome in adults in China.

Objective: To explore the relationship between meat consumption and metabolic syndrome (MS) in Chinese adults aged ≥18 years. Methods: The data were obtained from 2010- 2012 National Nutrition and Health Survey. A total of 34 923 subjects who completed the dietary survey, the physical examination and had the testing results of blood sugar and blood lipid levels were enrolled in this study. MS was defined according to the diagnostic criteria of China Diabetes Society 2013. The prevalence ratios of MS and each form of MS and related 95%CI were calculated after post stratification weight according to the population data (2009) released by the national bureau of statistics. Results: The average meat intake among subjects was 94.8 g/d. People who had meat consumption between 100 g/d and 199 g/d had the lowest prevalence of MS, abdominal obesity and hyperglycemia. As the meat consumption increased, the prevalence of MS in men increased. Men who had meat consumption of ≥300 g/d had a higher risk of MS than those who had low level of meat consumption, with prevalence ratio equaled to 1.46 (95%CI: 1.14~1.87). Similar trend was not observed in women. Conclusion: Moderate intake of meat is associated with reduced risk of MS in Chinese adults.

4.Content Determination of Pulegone in Schizonepeta tenuifolia and Its Compound Preparation by Hollow Fiber Liquid-phase Microextraction Coupled with HPLC

OBJECTIVE:To establish t he metho d for the content determination of pulegone in Schizonepetae tenuifolia decoction pieces and its compound preparation. METHODS :Hollow fiber liquid-phase microextraction coupled with HPLC (HF-LPME-HPLC) was adopted. Based on single factor tests ,HF-LPME condition of S. tenuifolia decoction pieces and its compound preparation (taking Compound S. tenuifolia granule as an expample ) was optimized by central composite design-response surface methodology using pulegone enrichment multiple as index ,with the concentration of sample phase solution (NaCl),extraction time and stirring speed as factors. Validation test was conducted. HPLC method was adopted to determine the content of pulegone. The determination was performed on Hypersil C 18 column with mobile phase consisted of methanol- 0.3% phosphoric acid (gradient elution )at the flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The detection wavelength was set at 252 nm,the column temperature was 25 ℃. The sample size was 20 μL. The feasibility of HF-LPME-HPLC method established in this study was validated by using HPLC method stated in the item of S. tenuifolia decoction pieces in 2020 edition of Chinese Pharmacopoeia (part Ⅰ)as reference. RESULTS :The optimum HF-LPME conditions included n-nonanol as the extraction solvent ,sample phase solution with 11% NaCl and pH value of 7,stirring speed of 800 r/min,extraction time of 36 min. Results of HPLC methodology investigation showed that linear range of pulegone were 0.05-5 μg/mL(r=0.999 0). The limits of detection and quantitation were 0.4 and 1.3 ng/mL,respectively. RSDs of intra-day and inter-day precision were 1.8%-4.0% and 1.5%-4.1%(n=3),respectively. RSDs of reproducibility and stability tests (24 h)were all lower than 8%(n=6). Average recoveries of S. tenuifolia decoction pieces and Compound S. tenuifolia granule were 102.6%-105.1% and 97.2%-102.3%,respectively;RSDs were not higher than 4.1% and 6.2%(n=3). The average contents of pulegone in S. tenuifolia decoction pieces determined by pharmacopoeia method and established method were 0.84 mg/g(RSD=4.3% ,n=3)and 0.87 mg/g(RSD=5.5% ,n=3),respectively,with no significant difference (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS :The established HF-LPME-HPLC method can enrich and concentrate pulegone , shows strong purification ability and high sensitivity ,and can be used to determine the contents of pulegone in S. tenuifolia decoction pieces and its compound preparation.
5.Establishment of models for purging leukemic cells from the grafts in vitro.

Using a fluorochrome Calcein-AM, leukemia cells were labeled and seeded into cell lines or bone marrow cells to establish three cell-models of grafts with leukemia. These cell-models were engaged with CD34 immunomagnetic beads and the purging efficacy was evaluated using both fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry. The results showed that the cell-models established in this study could be evaluated successfully not only with fluorescence microscopy but also flow cytometry. After CD34 positive selection, KG1a cells were removed by (0.98 +/- 0.09) log in model II and NALM-6 cells were removed by (1.82 +/- 0.51) log in model III, respectively. It is concluded that the models established in this study are stable and direct with an excellent reproducibility and an accuracy, which can be used to evaluate purging efficacy of leukemia cells in model graft using immunomagnetic selection and the experimental studies on tumorcidal effect in vitro.

6.Impact of taxanes on androgen receptor signaling.

The development and progression of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer is the major challenge in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. The androgen receptor signaling pathway remains active in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Docetaxel and cabazitaxel are the first- and second-line chemotherapy, respectively, for patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. These two taxanes, in general, function by (i) inhibiting mitosis and inducing apoptosis and (ii) preventing microtubule-dependent cargo trafficking. In prostate cancer, taxanes have been reported to inhibit the nuclear translocation and activity of the androgen receptor. However, whether this is attainable or not clinically remains controversial. In this review, we will provide a comprehensive view of the effects of taxanes on androgen receptor signaling in prostate cancer.

7.Abuse of diphenoxylate and related factors of forced drug abstainer in Gansu province.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of diphenoxylate abuse and related factors of forced drug abstainer in Gansu province. Methods: By using a self-designed questionnaire, an epidemiologic investigation was carried out among 2 108 forced drug abstainer selected from the compulsory isolation detoxification center of Gansu province. A case-control study was conducted to analyze the factors related with diphenoxylate abuse. Results: The diphenoxylate abuse rate among forced drug abstainer in Gansu was 19.8% (406/2 046), ranking first in medical drug abuse. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that factors as relieving withdrawal symptoms (OR=2.08, 95%CI: 1.01- 4.32), ways to obtain diphenoxylate (other ways: OR=1.00; regular clinic: OR=27.67, 95%CI: 2.64-289.82; friend: OR=0.01, 95%CI: 0.01-0.03), degree of euphoria (high: OR=1.00; medium: OR =3.36, 95%CI: 1.18-9.55; low: OR=26.16, 95%CI: 10.30-66.42), years of drug abuse (<5 years: OR=1.00; 10-15 years: OR=2.48, 95%CI: 1.02-6.04), abuse at home or in friend's house (OR=3.04, 95%CI: 1.08-8.68), abuse in car (OR=0.05, 95%CI: 0.00-0.68) and detoxification for the first time (OR=0.61, 95%CI: 0.43-0.86) were the possible influencing factors for diphenoxylate abuse. Conclusions: The prevalence of diphenoxylate abuse in forced drug abstainer in Gansu was relatively high. Reasons of abusing, the way to obtain diphenoxylate, whether using drug together with friends, degree of euphoria, years of abuse, abuse place and times for detoxification were related factors influencing the abuse of diphenoxylate.

8.Evaluation of peer support education mode for type 2 diabetes control in rural residents.

Objective: To evaluate the intervention effects of peer support education mode for type 2 diabetes control in rural residents. Methods: A random cluster sampling method has been used, including 300 rural residents aged above 18 years old from three villages (184 in control group, 116 in intervention group), in order to proceed the physical check-up and health education programs. Unchanged rate, transfer rate of patients, rate of impaired glucose tolerance, turn normal rate and other biochemical indicators of patients and people with impaired glucose tolerance from control group and intervention group were analyzed, to evaluate the intervention effects of peer support education mode. Results: The glycemic control rate of intervention group for patients and people with impaired glucose tolerance (72.2% and 71.4%) were higher than control group (43.6% and 26.7%), but the unchanged rate of intervention group (13.9% and 0.0%) were lower than control group (42.3% and 73.3%). Patients with diabetes or glucose intolerance in the education group improved significantly in waist-to-hip ratio, uric acid, total cholesterol and HDL-C. Glycemic hemoglobin level also improved significantly in diabetes patients of the education group. Conclusion: Peer support for education intervention seemed beneficial for diabetic control. The combination of education and effect evaluation was important in the evaluation of diabetes prevention and control. Peer support education also benefited the blood glucose control in general population.

10.Bibliometrics and visualization analysis of land use regression models in ambient air pollution research.

Objective: To quantitatively analyze the current status and development trends regarding the land use regression (LUR) models on ambient air pollution studies. Methods: Relevant literature from the PubMed database before June 30, 2017 was analyzed, using the Bibliographic Items Co-occurrence Matrix Builder (BICOMB 2.0). Keywords co-occurrence networks, cluster mapping and timeline mapping were generated, using the CiteSpace 5.1.R5 software. Relevant literature identified in three Chinese databases was also reviewed. Results: Four hundred sixty four relevant papers were retrieved from the PubMed database. The number of papers published showed an annual increase, in line with the growing trend of the index. Most papers were published in the journal of Environmental Health Perspectives. Results from the Co-word cluster analysis identified five clusters: cluster#0 consisted of birth cohort studies related to the health effects of prenatal exposure to air pollution; cluster#1 referred to land use regression modeling and exposure assessment; cluster#2 was related to the epidemiology on traffic exposure; cluster#3 dealt with the exposure to ultrafine particles and related health effects; cluster#4 described the exposure to black carbon and related health effects. Data from Timeline mapping indicated that cluster#0 and#1 were the main research areas while cluster#3 and#4 were the up-coming hot areas of research. Ninety four relevant papers were retrieved from the Chinese databases with most of them related to studies on modeling. Conclusion: In order to better assess the health-related risks of ambient air pollution, and to best inform preventative public health intervention policies, application of LUR models to environmental epidemiology studies in China should be encouraged.
