1.Immune response in patients with typhoid fever
Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Information 2000;(4):27-31
The immune status in 26 typhoid fever patients has been studied. They are 15 males, 112 females from 16 to 30 years old. This study reveals that: during the fever period of the disease, pronounced disturbances in immune, homeostasis are observed, which are manifested by lymphopenia, with a considerable rise of natural killer (NK) and active rosette forming cells (Ea). At the period of convalescence, the parameters decreased to normal value, except a mild increase of immunoglobulin (IgM, IgG)

4.Study on immune response caused by a National Standard Rabies Vaccine candidate produced in Viet Nam
Journal of Practical Medicine 2002;435(11):21-22
40 out of 50 subjects bitten by dog/cat were injected completely 4- 6 doses of rabies vaccine. Using ELISA, the authors found that 42.5% of serum samples that taken after injecting 4 doses of rabies vaccine had antibody titer 0.5IU/ml, met the WHO’s minimum requirement. The GMT was 2.71IU/ml. 62.5% of serum samples taken after injecting 6 doses of rabies vaccine had antibody titer 0.5IU/ml. The GMT was 3.14EU/ml

6.Neutrophils in Immunity.
Journal of Bacteriology and Virology 2012;42(2):172-176
Neutrophils are the most abundant white blood cells in the peripheral blood and have long been recognized as the major phagocytes in acute infection by destroying extracellular pathogens. Although research on neutrophils hampered by intractability in the experiments, the newly discovered effector functions of neutrophils includes granular proteins, and cytokines, extracellular traps. With all effector mechanism neutrophils play a critical role in the pathogenesis of acute and chronic infection, autoimmunity and cancer.

Journal of Korean Society of Endocrinology 1997;12(4):661-666
Clinical manifestations of hypothyroidism are very various and these degree are related to the severity and duration of the disease. Pericardial effusions, one of the manifestations of hypothy-roidism, were relatively common in the past. However, recently they may not be so frequent representative of hypothyroid subjects. The higher frequency of Hashimotos thyroiditis in Turners syndrome, especially those with an X-isochromosome, compared with the general population is well known. The pathophysiological process of autoimmunity is thought to be linked with the presence of an abnormal X-chromosome. Recently we experienced a case of X-isochromosome Turners syndrome with hypothyroidism and pericardial effusion and report it with reviews of the literatures.

The Korean Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery 1997;30(1):72-76
Myasthenia gravis is relatively rare disease which is related autoimmune response. There are various methods of management for myasthenia gravis, but nowaday radical thymectomy is the treatment of choice in the aspect of bringing out complete remission and clinical improvement. Sixteen patient of myasthenia gravis underwent radical thymectomy during last eight years, and its result was analyed. Complete remission was achieved in five patients(31 %) and pharmacological or symptomatic improvement in seven patients(44 %), thus giving a total remission in 12 patients(75 %). Postoperative result was not correlated with age, sex, degree of preoperative symptom, surgical approach, pathologic diagnosis.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 2002;40(8):908-913
BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis has been thought be a T cell mediated disease and autoimmune response may be responsible for chronicity of typical skin manifestation. Mycophenolate mofetil(MMF), a new immunosuppressive agent can be tried in the treatment of atopic dermatits. OBJECTIVE: We examined the efficacy and safety of MMF in the treatment of atopic dermatitis in Korean patients. METHODS: 7 patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatits were recruited in the treatment of oral MMF 2 g daily for 6 weeks and followed up for another 6 weeks. Severity of atopic dermatitis was measured using SCORAD index. Laboratory examination was performed to check the side effect of MMF during the study. RESULTS: Six of 7 patients finished the treatment courses. After 6 weeks of therapy with MMF, patients' symptoms were improved and mean SCORAD index was significantly reduced from 67.2+/-15.5 to 28.7+/-13.5(p<0.01). Significant side effects such as neutropenia, infection, renal toxicity and hepatotoxicity were not observed. During the follow-up period, patients could be managed by topical steroid and oral antihistamine and flare-up was not observed. CONCLUSION: According to our study, MMF is an effective, safe and well-tolerated immunosuppressive agent in the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. MMF is a promising alternative in the treatment of severe atopic dermatitis.

The Korean Journal of Pain 2005;18(2):208-209
Interstitial cystitis is an extremely painful and distressing condition, characterized by severe suprapubic pain, which increases with bladder filling and is relieved by voiding. The daily frequency of micturition may approach 100 times, but no incontinence is observed. The symptoms persist throughout the night, which consequently affects sleep. The etiology of this condition is still unknown, but includes infection, autoimmune response, allergic reaction, neurogenic inflammation, epithelial dysfunction and inherited susceptibility. Herein, a case of interstitial cystitis, with severe symptoms, which was successfully treated with lumbar sympathetic block, is reported.
