To define the postnatal changes in ANP secretion in response to mechanical stretch and atrial compliance, experiments have been done in perfused nonbeating rabbit atria with different ages: 1-day, 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 8-wk-old. In 1-day-old-rabbits, an increase in intraatrial pressure resulted in an increase in atrial volume, which was higher than that in 1-wk-old rabbits. Increases in atrial volume stimulated the secretion of ANP with concomitant translocation of extracellular fluid (ECF) into the atrial lumen. However, mechanically stimulated ECF translocation was lower in 1-day-old rabbits than that in 1-wk-old rabbits. Therefore, positive relationship between mechanically stimulated ECF translocation and ANP secretion was shifted upward in 1-day-old rabbits, as compared to 1-wk-old rabbits. Changes in atrial volume and ECF translocation were gradually increased with aging and reached the peak value at 4 wk. The stretch-induced ANP secretion in terms of ECF translocation (the interstitial ANP concentration) was also increased with aging and reached the peak value at 4 wk. The interstitial ANP concentration was dependent on the atrial content of ANP. These data suggest that the higher level of atrial ANP secretion is related to the postnatal changes in atrial volume and unidentified factor.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2002;18(4):350-353
AIMTo investigate the effect of vasonatrin peptide (VNP) on the expression of C-type natriuretic peptide receptor (NPR-C) in hypoxic rat hearts.
METHODSRats were divided randomly into three groups: control group, hypoxia group(3-28 d) and VNP (25-75 microg/kg per day) + hypoxia group. The plasma concentration of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in rats was measured by the means of radioimmunoassay. Furthermore, quantitative PCR was used to examine the NPR-C mRNA level in rat hearts.
RESULTSThe plasma concentration ANP in rats was significantly higher than that of control group, and VNP (75 microg/kg per day) made it more higher. Hypoxia for 3 day of had no significant effect on the NPR-C mRNA level in rat hearts, while hypoxia for 7-28 d significantly increased the level of NPR-C mRNA in a time dependent manner. VNP (50-75 microg/kg per day) significantly reduced the NPR-C mRNA level in rat hearts in a dose dependent manner.
CONCLUSIONVNP increases the plasma concentration of ANP in hypoxic rats. Hypoxia can increase expression of NPR-C in rat hearts significantly, which can be inhibited by VNP.

Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2015;35(1):101-104
Anxiety disorder is one of the most common mental disorders and seriously impairs the physical and mental health of patients. Due to the efficacy of acupuncture for tranquilization, acupuncture displays its unique advantage on the treatment of anxiety disorder, but the relevant biological mechanism has not been elaborated. The modern medicine study has proved that the heart and brain have their own independent natriuretic peptide (NP) system. The dysfunction of ANP and its receptor are closely related to the occurrence of anxiety disorder. The ANP acts on anti-anxiety. Hence, focusing on the three aspects, named the anti-anxiety effect of acupuncture based on its tranquilizing effect, the anti-anxiety effect of ANP and the positive regulation of acupuncture on NP, the mechanism on ANP and its receptor was explored in anti-anxiety with acupuncture based on tranquilizing effect, and the idea was put forward on that the anti-anxiety effect of acupuncture was possibly based on its action of tranquilization through regulating the ANP and its receptor. As a result, it is expected to provide the theoretic support for the mechanism study on anti-anxiety with acupuncture based on its tranquilizing effect.

In order to evaluate the effect of cardiac rhythm on hemodynamic changes and pulmonary arterial atrial natriuretic peptide(ANP) levels after percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty(PMV), we measured and analyzed the correlations between hemodynamic parameters and pulmonary arterial ANP levels in 65 patients with mitral stenosis before, 20 minutes, and 24 hours after PMV. The results are as follows: 1) Normal sinus rhythm was present in 49 patients(group1), whereas the other sixteen (group 2) had chronic atrial fibrillation. 2)PMV decreased mean left atrial pressure(LAP) in both groups(p<0.001). Left atrial volume was also reduced after PMV in group 1(p<0.0001), whereas it was not decreased significantly in group 2. 3) Pulmonary arterial ANP levels at 24 hours after PMV decreased significantly in group 1(p<0.001), compared to those prior to PMV. However there was no significantl changes in group 2. 4) In group 1, there was a significant linear relationship between extents of drop in pulmonary arterial ANP levels and LAP, measured 24hours after PMV. These results suggest that ANP secretion might be influenced not only by hemodynamic changes of the left atrium, but also by possible structural changes of left atrial wall induced by chronic atrial fibrillation.
