OBJECTIVES: We aimed to develop and validate a carbohydrate and insulin dosing knowledge quiz for adult Asian
patients with diabetes mellitus.
METHODOLOGY: A self-administered quiz was developed to test carbohydrate recognition; single food carbohydrate
estimation; meal carbohydrate estimation and food label reading; and insulin dosing calculation for carbohydrate, blood
glucose and for a meal in a multi-ethnic Asian population. The subjects’ carbohydrate knowledge and insulin dosing
ability were rated by the study dietitian and the subjects’ primary physicians, respectively. We compared the quiz
scores with the dietitians’ and physician ratings and the subjects’ HbA1c. Reliability of the quiz was tested by
measuring internal consistency and split half reliability.
RESULTS: Seventy-five subjects completed the study. Median (inter-quartile range) quiz score was 71.9 (60.2 to 83.6)%.
The quiz score was found to be correlated with the healthcare provider assessments (r=0.652, p<0.001) and the
subjects’ HbA1c (r=-0.375, p=0.001). Cronbach alpha was 0.897 and Guttman split half coefficient was 0.930.
CONCLUSIONS: Our analysis suggested that this newly developed quiz had good reliability and validity for testing
carbohydrate and insulin dosing knowledge in a group of Asian subjects with diabetes mellitus. This can be a useful
screening tool in clinical practice.

4.Dupuytren's contracture in a Filipino male: A case report and review of the literature.

Journal of Medicine University of Santo Tomas 2022;6(2):1039-1045
Dupuytren’s disease (DD) is a heritable, benign, chronic fibroproliferative process which affects the connective tissue of the palmar fascia. DD is rare among Asians with a prevalence of 0.004 to 0.032 percent. There are only 74 cases of DD among Asians identified in literature, and there are no published cases from the Philippines. We discuss a rare case of DD in a 60-year-old male Filipino presenting with bilateral loss of range of motion of the middle, ring, and little finger of both hands.

Journal of the ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies 2022;37(1):38-45
Objectives.:
There is no existing Vietnamese diabetes knowledge questionnaire. This impedes assessment of patient knowledge that will be helpful in providing effective diabetes intervention. We aimed to validate the Vietnamese Translated Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire (DKQ).
Methodology:
Translation and adaptation strictly followed the guidelines of Beaton et al. Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, test-retest reliability was assessed by Fleiss’ Kappa coefficient, and validity value was determined among type 2 diabetes patients in a general hospital.
Results:
The Vietnamese version of the DKQ had good internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha for all items = 0.898) and stability (Kappa coefficient >0.600). The average score for all equivalence criteria was 1.00, demonstrating good equivalence to the original. The significant difference between knowledge score and education level (p <0.001) confirmed construct validity.
Conclusion
Our study provided a reliable Vietnamese version of the DKQ. Future studies may apply the version in different regions in Vietnam to determine external validity.

10.On the Fourth Edition of the Korean Medical Terminology.
Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2002;45(10):1184-1188
Most of the former Korean medical terminologies consist of terms based on Chinese characters. The fourth edition of the Korean medical terminology was published in February 2001. Many terms originating from the native Korean language appear in this new edition. The background and process of publishment of this fourth edition are herein presented.
