This research was performed with the family assessment tool at critical and emergency care settings (CNS-FACE) as a standard tool at the ICU of Hospital A. It clarified changes in the awareness and practice of family support by staff in order to obtain clues to how to provide family support in the future.
  Initially, a briefing session was held to acquaint nurses with CNS-FACE. A total of 28 nurses assigned to the ICU were invited to the session. They were informed of the importance of using CNS-FACE to understand the family needs and coping. The staff members were requested to use CNS-FACE to obtain an objective assessment of patients' families selected at random by the nursing research members. Subsequently, questionnaires were distributed to investigate the changes in the nurses' awareness. Those who reported a change in relationship with the families after using CNS-FACE accounted for 100% of the nurses with one to three years' experience, 64% of the urses with four to six years' experience, and 50 % of the nurses with seven or more years' experience. An understanding of the 46 items in CNS-FACE was thought to lead to more positive intervention awareness. It was believed that this would result in a reduction in stress for nurses providing family nursing and to bring about a change in their awareness of family nursing, irrespective of their number of years of nursing experience. CNS-FACE gave the nurses with one to six years' experience with an objective understanding of needs and coping and changed their awareness of family nursing. A change of awareness was achieved by 50% of the nurses with seven or more years' experience. Over 60 % of the staff members recognized CNS-FACE to br effective for family nursing.

Purpose: This study investigated the relationship between the number of days that hospital visits were postponed and changes in clinical parameters due to the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), after the Japanese government declared a state of emergency in April 2020. Methods: Regarding the status of postponement of appointments, we analyzed the patients who had visited the Nihon University Hospital at Matsudo for more than 1 year for supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) and classified them into low-, moderate- and high-risk subgroups according to the periodontal risk assessment (PRA). Clinical parameters for periodontal disease such as probing depth (PD), full-mouth bleeding score (FMBS), full-mouth plaque score, periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA), and periodontal epithelial surface area (PESA) were analyzed in 2 periods, from October 2019 to March 2020 and after April 2020.Correlation coefficients between days of deferral and the degree of changes in clinical parameters were calculated. Results: The mean age of the 749 patients was 67.56±10.85 years, and 63.82% were female.Out of 749 patients, 33.24% deferred their SPT appointments after April 2020. The average total of postponement days was 109.49±88.84. The number of postponement days was positively correlated with changes in average PD (rs=0.474) and PESA (rs=0.443) in the high-risk subgroup of FMBS, and average PD (rs=0.293) and PESA (rs=0.253) in the highrisk subgroup of tooth number (TN). Patients belonging to the high-risk subgroups for both FMBS and TN had a positive correlation between postponement days and PISA (rs=0.56). Conclusions The findings, the spread of COVID-19 appears to have extended the visit interval for some SPT patients. Moreover, longer visit intervals were correlated with the worsening of some clinical parameters for SPT patients with high PRA.

A new radiation system known as the TomoTherapy Radixact X9 was introduced at our hospital in June 2021. From August 2021 to March 2022, 6 patients underwent total body irradiation (TBI) with tomotherapy with the Radixact X9. This paper describes the sequence of events from treatment planning computed tomography to irradiation. Results are also reported for measurements made with Gafchromic EBT3 film, the Delta4 Phantom+, and an A1SL ionization chamber dosimeter, set-up error, and time required to enter and exit the room, which were measured during plan verification. The measurement results were as follows: Gafchromic EBT3 film, 91.78±0.96% ; Delta4 Phantom+ head, 100±0% ; chest, 98.93±1.17% ; foot, 98.90±2.28% ; ionization chamber dosimeter A1SL, -0.39±0.70%; Residual error: -0.01±1.91 mm for lateral, 0.29±1.60 mm for longitudinal, 0.36±2.07 mm for vertical, -0.06±0.78° for roll. In addition, the time required to enter and exit the room was 98.50±17.17 min. TBI could be performed within set-up error of 5 mm in all cases. The validation results from the initial 6 cases confirmed that TBI with tomotherapy provided good dose distribution and positional accuracy.
