In order to find the characteristics of physique and physical fitness of the field hockey players, the data were collected from the Japanese Men's Team members in anthropometric measurements and physical fitness test during the last six years since 1978.
From the data collected for this study the following observation were made :
1. The Japanese National Men's Field Hockey players had superior measurements in agility, especially, Side-Step-Test and cardiorespiratory function but inferior measurements in muscular strength and flexibility than players in other activities17) ; their physique were smaller than others.
2. When compared with Tokyo Olympic Field Hockey players of twenty years ago, some increments in measurements were recognized in weight, circumferences, muscular strength and cardiorespiratory function; but not too much differences were observed in various longitudinal measurements, jumping reaction time, simple reaction time and flexibility.
3. When individual measurements of three years span were compared longitudinally, circumferences like chest girth and upper arm girth, Vertical jump and Side-Step-Test were increased but cardiorespiratory function declined with the age. The rest of the items did not change much during the span of three years.

In order to find the characteristics of physique and physical fitness of the field hockey players, data were collected from the Japanese Women's Team members in anthropometric measurements and physical fitness test over an eight-year period starting 1978.
From the data collected for this study the following observations were made :
1. From the data obtained during the last eight years, the tendency to increase or to improve was observed in the mean values of their physique and functional test items.
2. The Japanese National Women's hockey players were superior in agility, especially, side-step-test but inferior in muscular strength, flexibility and cardio-respiratory functions to national players in other activities ; their physique were smaller than others.
3. When compared with hockey players of foreign countries, it was observed that Japanese Women's hockey players were smaller in physique and inferior in muscular strength and cardio-respiratory functions.
4. When individual measurements of three years span were compared longitudinary, upper arm girth, muscular strength of upper limb and trunk had increased and jumping reaction time had improved, but not too many differences were observed in flexibility and cardio-respiratory function during the three years.
3.A Case of Ruptured Cryopreserved Homograft 7 Months after Implantation

Infectious abdominal aortic aneurysm is a relatively rare disease, and there is no consensus regarding its surgical treatment. Medical infectious control should be concerned comparison with surgical treatment if there is sepsis, however we sometimes have no other choice but emergency operation for uncontrollable cases. In many reports, cryopreserved homografts were used as in-situ alternative grafts for infectious aortic aneurysms because they had some merits such as anti-infectious effects, suitability and so on. However the number of in-situ cryopreserved homograft replacement cases are few, and the long term result is unclear. We encountered a ruptured cropreserved homograft case 7 months after urgent in-situ cryopreserved homograft replacement. We report the case and refer to the relevans literature.
4.Three Cases of Infected Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and In-Situ Repacement of the Affected Segment with a Prosthesis or Cryopreserved Arterial Homograft

We encountered three cases of infra-renal infected abdominal aortic aneurysm in 2007 and 2008. Preoperative blood culture was positive in two of the three patients. All of the patients presented with fever of unknown origin. We replaced the affected segment of the abdominal aorta with a synthetic graft in 1 patient, and with a cryopreserved arterial homograft in the remaining 2 patients. An infected abdominal aortic aneurysm is a life-threatening condition. Diagnosis is often difficult, and emergency surgery may be necessitated by rupture of the aneurysm. Our experience suggests that computed tomography is effective for the diagnosis of infected aneurysms. The most effective surgical technique consists of complete resection of the aneurysm, in-situ replacement of the affected aortic segment with a synthetic graft or homograft, and omental coverage.
5.Studies on comparison of physical measurements and blood properties of middle-aged and old farmers in Saga prefecture with reference to topographical features.

A survey of physical mesurements, blood pressure, blood mesurements and frequency of food consumption was conducted on 152 males and 229 females, aged 40 to 65 years, from three rural districts in Saga prefecture. The districts were Ariake (flatland area), Kohhoku (intermediate area) and Yamanouchi (mountainous area). While, on the aged -above 70 years, a questionnaire on daily living and health condioion was investigated.
The results were summarized as follows:
1) The values of skinfold thickness differed little among the districts. The rate of obesity by skinfold thickness both in male and female was lower than the result of National Dietary Survey in 1981. However, the average skinfold thickness in females were higher a little compared with the values of our suruey in same region in 1971.
2) The prevalence rate of anemia in females was remarkably high (below 12g/dl of hemoglobin, 34%). It presumed that agricultural work load might heavy, and nutrients intake correspond to the work load was insufficient.
3) From the results of frequency of food consumption, inhabitants in Ariake compared with Kohhoku more frequently intaked modern food e. g. meat, milk. On the other hand, Kohhoku was higher in blood pressure, HDL-cholesterol/total cholesterol ratio, and lower in triglyceride, total choresterol than Ariake. We guessed that the food consumption pattern mainly affect on the results of blood pressure and serum lipids.
4) In relation to the correlation matrix which calculated on all districts, the higher the obesity, the higher the blood pressure, triglyceride, total cholesterol and cholinesterase activity, whereas the obesity decreased HDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol/total cholesterol ratio.
5) Among 90 persons aged above 70 years, the rate of ones who can not work from physically disability, and who have any desease was 18%, 51% respectively.
6.Hydrostatic Pressure Induces Cytokine Production in Human Periodontal Ligament Cells

Periodontal tissue has a unique structure in that the human periodontal ligament (hPDL) lies between the hard tissues of cementum and alveolar bone. Although the role of cytokines in hPDL function is not clearly understood, we investigated the effect of mechanical stress as hydrostatic pressure (HP) on cytokine expression in hPDL cells.The hPDL cells were obtained from a healthy maxillary third molar. After the 3rd to 4th passage, the cells were exposed to HP ranging from 1 MPa to 6 MPa as previously described. The expression of cytokine mRNA was determined by RT-PCR and cytokines in the culture supernatants were assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).The exposure to 6 MPa of HP caused no morphological changes of hPDL cells, and did not affect cellular viability. No expression of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, RANK, RANKL or OPG mRNA was observed in the control cells under atmospheric pressure, whereas in hPDL cells treated with HP, enhancement of IL-6, IL-8, RANKL and OPG mRNA expression was observed between 10 and 60 minutes after the exposure to HP. After the exposure to HP, the production of IL-6 and TNF-α were induced significantly in hPDL cells, but IL-1β and IL-8 were not produced.These results suggest that hPDL cells may play a role in the production of cytokines in response to mechanical stress in vivo.
7.Coronary Revascularization in a Patient with Calcified Aorta Using Ventricular Fibrillation without Aortic Cross-clamping.

Coronary artery bypass surgery in a 54-year-old female with severe calcified ascending aorta was performed with aortic no touch technique, Extracorporeal circulation with femoral cannulation was performed, and bilateral internal thoracic acteries and gastroepiploic artery were used as grafts under ventricular fibrillation and hypothermia without aortic cross-clamping. No neurological complication was observed and postoperative course was uneventful. We think the aortic no touch technique is safe and reliable in the coronary revascularization with severe calcified aorta.

Background/Aims:
Endoscopic resection (ER) for superficial non-ampullary duodenal epithelial tumors (SNADETs) is challenging. Conventional endoscopic mucosal resection (CEMR) is also problematic due to the anatomical features of the duodenum. We compared the safety and efficacy of underwater endoscopic mucosal resection (UEMR) with those of CEMR through a retrospective analysis.
Methods:
Altogether, 44 consecutive patients with 46 SNADETs underwent ER (18 CEMR cases and 28 UEMR cases) between January 2016 and October 2019. We investigated the proportions of en bloc resection, R0 resection, complications, resection time, and total procedure time and compared the outcomes of patients from the CEMR group with those of patients from the UEMR group.
Results:
The median tumor size was 8.0 mm (range, 2.0–20.0 mm). The UEMR group showed a higher proportion of en bloc resection (96.4% vs. 72.2%, p<0.05) and significantly lower median resection time and total procedure time (4 min vs. 9.5 min, p<0.05 and 13 min vs. 19 min, p<0.05; respectively) than the CEMR group. No complications were observed. However, two patients treated with piecemeal resection in the CEMR group had residual tumors.
Conclusions
UEMR is a feasible therapeutic option for SNADETs. It can be recommended as a standard treatment.
9.Aortic Valve Replacement for Two Siblings with Mucolipidosis Type III

Mucolipidosis is an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder that demonstrates a clinical resemblance to mucopolysaccharidosis. Accumulation of glycoproteins throughout the body causes dysfunction of several organs, in particular, valvular heart diseases are an important cause of mortality, however, there is no consensus guideline regarding the indications and optimal timing of the surgical repair because of the unclear and short natural history. Here we present 12- and 15-year-old siblings diagnosed with mucolipidosis who underwent aortic valve replacement. The senior sibling received redo-aortic valve replacement for prosthetic valve dysfunction 11 years after the initial surgery. A few surgical valve replacements in patients with mucopolysaccharidosis have been reported, however, there is no published case of aortic valve replacements in two siblings with mucolipidosis.
