1.Design and application of a cake-shaping apparatus for drug-separated moxibustion.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2008;28(8):623-624
Acupuncturist makes herbal cakes with traditional manual way, with such disadvantages as slow in making, varying in thickness and size of the cake. When the patients are treated with medical cake-separated moxibustion, they will be unevenly affected by the heat and the patient easily suffers from burning. These hinder clinically wide application of cake-separated moxibustion. With practice of many years, the authors design and make a kind of manual cake-shaping apparatus which can rapidly and conveniently make uniform medical cake, with simple technique, ingenious structure and normal material.

Objective:To investigate the value of chest CT quantitative index in clinical classification and lung injury severity evaluation of COVID-19.Methods:The current study retrospectively analyzed the clinical and CT data of 438 patients with COVID-19 between January 2020 and March 2020 in Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science & Technology. The clinical types included common type ( n=146), severe type ( n=247) and critical type ( n=45). The chest CT indexes of all patients were quantitatively analyzed by artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning, including whole lung volume, CT lung opacification, ground glass opacification volume (GGO volume; CT value<-300 HU), solid opacification volume (SO volume; CT value ≥-300 HU) and the ratio of volume to the whole lung volume, the ratio of SO volume to GGO volume (SO volume/GGO volume). Kruskal-Wallis test was used to conduct statistical analysis of the differences in quantitative parameters among clinical types, and multiple ordered logistic regression was used to analyze the correlation between quantitative parameters and clinical types. Results:Among the 438 patients diagnosed with COVID-19, severe and critical patients were older ( P<0.05), and most of the critical patients were male ( P<0.05). The main clinical manifestations of all clinical types were fever, followed by cough, fatigue, chest tightness, dyspnea, gastrointestinal symptoms and so on. GGO volume was the main CT manifestation of all the three clinical subtypes. The whole-lung opacification volume, GGO volume, SO volume and their proportions in whole-lung volume significantly increased from common, severe to critical types (all P<0.05). SO volume/GGO volume increased with the severity of clinical type [common type 0.12 (0.03, 0.34), severe type 0.29 (0.11, 0.59), critical type 0.61 (0.39, 0.97)]. Multiple ordered logistic regression analysis showed that whole-lung opacification volume (OR=1.009), SO volume/GGO volume (OR=1.866), GGO volume (OR=1.008) and SO volume (OR=1.016) had a significant positive effect on the severity of clinical typing ( P<0.01). Conclusion:Quantitative indicators of chest CT based on deep learning algorithm (SO volume, GGO volume, SO volume/GGO volume) are closely related to the clinical severity of COVID-19.

Objective To observe the influence of nandrolone phenylpropionate(NP) on the ultrastructure of aorta in rats with or without movement training, and investigate the side effects of NP on the cardiovascular system. Methods Forty male SD rats were randomly divided into sedentary control group, sedentary+medicine group, exercise control group and exercise+medicine group. For the groups with medical treatment,NP of 10 mg/kg one time every three days was injected into the rats via gluteus for eight weeks. For the exercise groups, rats were trained to run on treadmill five days per week for eight weeks. The aortae were sampled and specimens were obtained for transmission electron microscopy. Results The ultrastructure of aorta was normal in sedentary control group. For sedentary+medicine group, mitochondrial swelling, vacuolated cytoplasm and lysis of endothelial cells were observed, disruption of intercellular conjunctions, widening of subendothelial spaces and furcation and breakage of internal elastic lamina were found, and smooth muscle cells changed into synthesis type. For exercise control group,no obvious morphologic change was observed, except that part of the internal elastic lamina disrupted. In exercise+medicine group, breakage and lysis of endothelial cells were observed, widening of subendothelial spaces and lysis of internal elastic lamina were found, and autophagosome and myelinoid body were seen in smooth muscle cells. Conclusion NP may lead to the impairment of endothelial cells and the change of smooth muscle cells into synthesis type.Exercise with NP administration may result in more severe impairment in vessel wall.

OBJECTIVE Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors, and the inci-dence rate is the highest in all kinds of tumors in China. However,it remains unclear that how signifi-cantly gastric cells are dependent on glycolysis, and which type of gastric cells are sensitive to glycolysis inhibition. In this study, several kind of gastric cancer cell lines were used as the research object, and the metabolic characteristics of different cell lines were systematically analyzed to provide theoretical support for the accurate treatment of gastric cancer. METHODS We examined the energy metabolism of four gastric cancer cell lines(MGC-803,SGC-7901,HGC-27 and BGC-823)by using glycolysis inhibitor, 2-deoxy-D-glucose(2-DG)and inhibitor of oxidative phosphorylation, oligomycin.Oxygen consumption rates(OCR)and L-lactate were also measured with an XF96 Analyzer(Seahorse Biosciences)to deter-mine the significance of metabolism of oxidative phosphorylation and aerobic glycolysisin gastric cells. In addition, western blot was used to detect the contribution of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), and anti-apoptotic proteins(Bcl-2 and survivin)to clarify the mechanism of death or survival of gastric cancer cells treated by 2-DG or oligomycin. RESULTS In this study, it was shown that the growth of gastric cell lines were suppressed by 2-DG.However,the sensitivity to 2-DG was quite different among cell lines:IC 50 of 2-DG was from 3.28 mmol·L-1(MGC-803)to 15.57 mmol·L-1(BGC-823).MGC-803 was relatively sensitive to 2-DG (IC 50:3.28 mmol·L-1), consumed more glucose and produced more lactate (waste product of glycolysis) than the three other cell lines. Consequently, MGC-803 could be more dependent on glycolysis than other cell lines, which was further confirmed by the fact that glucose (+)FCS(-)medium showed more growth and survival than glucose(-)FCS(+)medium.Alternatively, BGC-823, most resistant to 2-DG (IC50: 15.57 mmol·L- 1), was most sensitive to oligomycin, and showed more growth and survival in glucose(-)FCS(+)medium than in glucose(+)FCS(-)medium. Thus,we had reasons to think BGC-823 cells depended on oxidative phosphorylation for energy production. In BGC-823,AMPK,which is activated when ATP becomes limiting, was rapidly phosphorylated by 2-DG, and expression of Bcl-2 was augmented, which might result in resistance to 2-DG.Interestingly,AMPK phosphorylation and augmentation of Bcl-2 expression by 2-DG were not observed in MGC-803,which is 2-DG sensitive. CONCLUSION There is a large metabolic difference between gastric cancer cell lines, which will facilitate the future gastric cancer therapy by targeting metabolic pathways.
