Aims: Herbal and medicinal plants bioactive compounds of Jatropha curcas, Piper nigrum and P. betle have been
shown to possess therapeutic properties. This study investigates the presence and characterization of phytochemical
compounds as well as to evaluate the antimicrobial activities of the methanolic crude extract of the leaves and seeds of
J. curcas, P. nigrum L. and P. betle.
Methodology and results: The study on antibacterial and antifungal efficacy of the crude extracts of leaves and seeds
were carried out using standard disc diffusion method. The crude extracts were found to exhibit an average response of
antimicrobial activity with the inhibition zones ranged from 3% to 28% for antibacterial and from 21% to 79% for
antifungal activity. Among all extracts, the leaf extract of P. betle showed a good antibacterial activity against
Staphylococcus aureus and excellent antifungal properties against Aspergillus niger and A. flavus. The phytochemical
screening analysis revealed the presence of saponin, tannins, glycosides, terpenoids, reducing sugar, flavonoid and
anthraquinones. However, phlobatannins was not present. Total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content
(TFC) were highly detected in the crude extract of P. betle and recorded as 13.33 mg of gallic acid equivalents, GAE
(mg/ 100 mg sample) and 0.88 mg of RE (mg/100 mg sample), respectively. GC-MS analysis of the bioactive
compounds reveals the presence of diethyl phthalate, 2-hexadecen-1-ol (Phytol), hexadecanoic acid, piperine, phenol
and other minor compounds.
Conclusion, significance and impact of study: The study suggested that P. betle has a potential as a source for
antimicrobial agent from plants extracts. Nevertheless, further studies are needed to elucidate their precise mechanism
of action.

The Filipino Family Physician 2022;60(1):48-54
The randomized Controlled Trial is the standard design to prove the effectiveness of drugs or other forms of interventions. In this type of clinical research, individuals are randomly assigned (randomization) to either of the two or more groups, one with the intervention the other without the intervention being tested or another intervention. When done properly, it can provide the best evidence of effectiveness

3.Evaluation of the effectiveness of menorrhagia treatment with rigevidon at Newborn & Mother Protection Hospital
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;512(5):54-56
Study was carried out on 80 mechanical energy menorrhagia patients under 18 years of age, treated with rigevidon combined with preventive antibiotics and commonly drugs as oxytoxine, ecgometrine at the Newborn & Mother Protection Hospital in 2000. The results showed that: with single dose of 2 tablets per day, taken in unique time in the evening, and then reduction of dose to 1 tablet per day when bleeding stopped, to make a 28 days menstruation cycle, the good efficacy was observed in 96.25% of patients (77 patients respond well to treatment). After, maintain treatment for 3 months following to make an artificial menstruation cycle then stop completely. All of patients had no any seriously complications, including menorrhagia after stopping treatment

4.Study on the ability against to be readdicted of cedemex drug on rats of Morphine addiction
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;515(7):31-33
Objective: to study the ability of cedemex in preventing the spirit dependence (anti readdiction). Animals and method: using the method of position taste with condition to establish the model of spirit dependence to morphine in white house- mouse. Results: Among the mice taking continuously cedemex by 5 days, with 3 different doses, then using hydrocortisone to stimulate, the residence time in white boxes did not last clearly, the behaviour toward preferring white boxes was not recovered and it returned to position state without condition. But in morphine group when using NaCl 9%o, the residence time in white boxes did last clearly, the behaviour toward preferring white boxes was recovered.

5.Malaria management in Vietnam-Lao border and Ho Chi Minh route in Thua Thien Hue province
Journal of Malaria and parasite diseases Control 2004;0(3):13-17
One of the challenges for the current malaria management in the province of Thua Thien - Hue is imported malaria caused by the movement of population across the Vietnam - Laos border and between the malaria endemic areas from Quang Nam to Quang Tri provinces by the newly constructed route of Ho Chi Minh. Under that circumstance, the active measures have been set up for control and prevention of malaria infection, especially for risk cases. These measures appear to be initially effective. The incidence, fatality has been controlled. The risk of imported malaria has been over. However, those measures need to be sustained in the border areas and the Ho Chi Minh route to maintain the achievements

6.Comparative study on efficacy of a new combined vaginal preparation (Neo Penotran) versus Flagystatin in the treatment of common vaginitis
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2005;10(1):6-8
A randomized controlled trial was carried out on two groups of patients who were received either Flagystatine (nystatin 1000000 UI/metronidazol 500 mg) or Neo Penotran (miconazol 100mg/metronidazol 500 mg), twice a day for 7 days. Gynecological and microbiological assessments were carried out before treatment and 14 days after the first visit. In Flagystatine and Neo Penotran groups, clinical cure rates were 42% and 77.9% respectively; microbiological cure rates were 68.2% and 72.1%. In Neo Penotran group, functional symptoms were reduced more than organic symptom (84.8% and 79.1%, respectively). This difference was not so remarkable in Flagystatine group (64.8% and 65.95, respectively). Side effects of Neo Penotran were insignificant. Neo Penotran therapy without supportive treatment had higher efficacy in vaginitis at dosage of two pill a day in 7 days. The drug showed effects in both of function symptoms and organic symptoms, in clinical and paraclinical

7.The new advantages in treatment of endodontics
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;512(5):61-63
Introduction of 2 new instruments to help improve the quality of endodontics treatment nowadays, it was turning brooch system, especially was protapers and digital tomorgraphy machine. The appearance of Protaper system was a remarkable advantage in endodontics field, having more advantage than older ones such as: more flexible in big brooch, larger tapering helping marrow tube was cleaned and filled in better, the effect of cutting higher, safer in using, completely controlling with touch, decreased ivory crushed in top area, minimum decreased the pressure on brooch and less using brooch, less step, therefore, saving a lots of time. Digital tomorgraphy system was a solution to save tomography time, especially, Visualix USB system was produced by Gendex-Dentsply company. It had more advantage than general tomography system, such as reducing radioactive ray so that it could be put in clinics, no need to darkroom and chemicals, receiving rays by CCD, saving alots of time

8.Application of bacteria and enzymes in treatment for acute and chronic diarrhea
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;501(1):57-59
Through application of bacterial biotherapeutic agents on clinical practice, we determined that Lactobacillus GG strains have high effect in treatment for acute diarrhea without blood, colitis caused by Clostridum difficile, diarrhea related to erythromycin, diarrhea with Rotavirus(+). Enterococcus faecium SF68 strain have also good effect in treatment for non-specific acute diarrhea. Steptococcus hemophilus have good effect in prophylaxis treatment. Saccharomyces boulardii was non-bacterial biotherapeutic agents. Only one type of enzyme has proved effectiveness in vivo and in vitro. Saccharomyces boulardii was considered by WHO as a useful agent in treatment for chronic colitis, recurrent colitis related to Clostridium difficile. Freeze-dried Saccharomyces boulardii has less side effects and easy to use

9.Study on some clinical characteristics and surgical treatment in acute necrotic pancreatitis
Journal of Practical Medicine 2005;512(5):34-37
Study on 70 acute pancreatitis patients (40 males, 30 females, aged 19 - 76) operated in Viet Duc Hospital from January 1999 to May 2002. Exclusive criteria: edema acute pancreatitis, necrotic pancreatitis without operation, necrotic pancreatitis was operated in basic settings. The results: the most of necrotic pancreatitis had no clear causes (74.28%). Mechanic causes included gallstone, worm (17.15%), acute pancreatitis after gall-pancreas area operation (1.43%). The disease was common in adults, mainly in 41-60 years old. In necrotic pancreatitis, pancreas could be necrotic very fast during the first 24 hours with shock, multi-organs failure, tympanites, vomit, peritoneum reaction and induction signs. The common symptoms were : increased blood amylase and urine amylase, leukocyte, blood urea, blood glucose; decreased blood calcium. CT scanner with a high accuracy rate (100%), was a gold criterion in diagnosis of necrotic pancreatitis. In operation, should minimized intervention. It is necessary to perform jejunotomy to decrease the expense due to intravenous feeding regularly.

10.Therapeutic approaches for uterine fibroma
Ho Chi Minh city Medical Association 2005;10(5):293-300
There is about 30% of women experienced uterine fibroma and most of them needn’t treatment. For symptomatic women, various medical treatments were more and more extensive. Surgical treatments were indicated depending on many factors and individual patient. Besides traditional therapies (myomectomy, hysteroscopic myomectomy, uterine endoscopy, etc), there were more and more new techniques such as uterine artery embolization. This technique is relative new and minimal invasive of management, but it still needs further research
