2.Treatment of bone fracture in children by the metaizeau’s flexible wire
Journal of Vietnamese Medicine 1998;225(9, 10):14-16
Fracture of the shaft of femur and tibia in children aged from 4 to 17 sometimes caused the problem in reduction and immobilization and needed an osteosynthesis. Among the internal fixation procedures, intramedullary nailing by using Metaizeau’s flexible wire under C-arm control showed the best way and the best choice. 30 fractures of the shaft of femur and tibia failed in conservative treatment have been operated by above methods with successful results since Jan-1996 to February-2000 in Saint-Paul hospital. The advantages of the method were noted as no opening fracture focus, no bleeding, no risk of infection, short stay in hospital and no need of cast immobilization. So patients will come back soon to theirs activities and school.

3.Serological investigation at some plague foci in Dak Lak province
Journal of Preventive Medicine 1998;8(1):53-57
In Dak Lak province, there are 4 plague foci included EaHleo, Hoa Thuan, Krong Pack, and Cuzut. Among them, EaHleo is a new focus, and Hoa Thuan Krong Pack Cuzut were old foci (from 5 years to more than 10 years no epidemic). We conducted the study in these plague foci during the dry season between 1997-1998. The investigation of serum samples from 1,041 R.exulans is the above 4 foci show that anti-F1 antibody was found with an average rate of 26.6% in the 4 investigated foci. This rate was 34.4% at EaHleo with titer ranging from 1:20 to 1:2,560. The positive rates were 3.8%, 5.4% and 9.7% at Krong Pack, Hoa Thuan, and Cuzut, respectively, with titer ranging from 1:20 to 1:80.

4.Preparation of salmonella antigens for serodiagnostic: Salmonella Vi, Salmonella enteritidis H (ENH), Salmonella typhimurium H (TMH) at the Pasteur Institute in HoChiMinh city.
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(1):57-60
Eight kinds of Salmonella antigens have been made at the Pasteur Institute HoChiMinh City: OA, OB, OC, Otyphi and HA, HB, HC, Htyphi. Three more kinds of Salmonella antigens were developed: Salmonella Vi, ENH (S. enteritidis) and TMH (S. typhimurium) for differentiation of antibodies from typhoid (0:9,12 H:d) and S. enteritidis infection (0:9,12 H:g, m) and antibodies from paratyphoid B (0:4,5,12 H:b:-) with S. typhimurium (0:4,5,12 H:i:1,2). Salmonella Vi antigen is useful for the study of Vi antibody in epidemiological investigation on typhoid fever

5.Serological surveillance of neonatal tetanus at the Institute of Pediatrics, Ha Noi
Journal of Preventive Medicine 2002;12(1):16-19
34 paired mother - infant blood samples collected from neonatal tetanus cases in National Institute of Pediatrics, Hanoi were examined for tetanus antibody. The results showed that 100% of blood samples were negative in both mothers and their infants.

9.To apply rapid serodiagnosis of typhoid fever by Typhi-Dot technique
Journal of Practical Medicine 2003;458(8):27-28
Study the rapid serodiagnosis of typhoid fever in 41 samples collected at Saint Paul Hospital, Traffic-Transport Hospital, centers of preventive medicine in Hanoi, Lai Chau, Thai Binh from 2002 December to 2003 June. Results: IgM(+) and IgG(+) in 29 samples, IgM(-) and IgG(+) in 8 samples, IgM(-) and IgG(-) in 3 samples, and 1 unspecified sample. Most of typhoid patients eliminated bacteria in feces 4-12 weeks after recovery. Few patients continued elimination after 12 weeks. Typhi-Dot technique overcomes disadvantages of Widal reaction, gives quick result within 1 hour, has high sensitivity and specificity, simple technique, not requires expensive equipments, and could test many samples at the same time

Journal of Laboratory Medicine and Quality Assurance 2007;29(1):195-199
BACKGROUND: Mediace RPR test for chemistry autoanalyzer, a nontreponemal serologic test for syphilis, was recently introduced in Korea. We evaluated the performance of Mediace RPR test. METHODS: For the evaluation of precision, within-run and total coefficient variations were analyzed. Two hundred and one sera were tested by Mediace RPR test to investigate the distribution of Mediace RPR titers in healthy subjects. Mediace RPR test was compared with RPR card test using 126 sera. RESULTS: Total coefficient variations for positive control, negative control and pooled sera were 9.1%, 46.6% and 35.3%, respectively. The results of Mediace RPR test in healthy subjects showed 0.44+/-0.28 (mean+/-standard deviation) RPR unit (RU), and the positive rate was 3.5% (7/201). The agreement between Mediace RPR test and RPR card test was 73%. In some of the sera with a result of greater than 4.0 RU, Mediace RPR test showed markedly lower results than that of RPR card quantitative test. CONCLUSION: Mediace RPR test has the advantages that it is useful for screening large number of samples and the results are objective. Mediace RPR test can be used as a quantitative test in sera with low titers. Dilution is needed to determine high titers in sera. Adjusting cutoff for the setting of individual hospital is maybe helpful.
