INTRODUCTION:
The social environment of adolescents plays a significant role in their psychological wellbeing, which in turn contributes to their personal development as individuals. This research aimed to determine the correlation between internet addiction and the psychological well-being of high school students in private schools in Metro Manila for the school year 2020-2021.
METHODS:
High school students from Grades 7-12 in private schools in Metro Manila, with at least one
account in any social media platform participated. The Internet Addiction Test and The Flourishing
Scale were used to determine internet addiction and psychological well-being, respectively. Spearman’s rank-order correlation was used to determine the magnitude of correlation between internet addiction and psychological well-being.
RESULTS:
The prevalence of internet addiction was 46.1% among 128 respondents. The mean psychological
well-being score of the participants was 45.9 ± 7.84. There was weak statistically significant negative
correlation between psychological well-being and internet addiction (rs(126) = -0.346, p < 0.001).
CONCLUSION
Students with higher scores of internet addiction were more likely to have lower scores in psychological well-being. There was weak statistically significant negative correlation between psychological well-being and internet addiction.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2006;36(3):561-570
PURPOSE: This study attempted to identify influential variables on smoking temptation between groups: adolescent smokers and adult smokers. METHOD: A survey was conducted with 376 adolescent smokers in 4 high schools and 451 adult smokers in community settings in South Korea. Univariate statistics and regression were used for data analysis. RESULT: The most powerful predictor of smoking temptation for adolescent smokers was nicotine dependency. On the other hand, the most powerful predictor of smoking temptation for adult smokers was self-efficacy for smoking abstinence. In the high smoking temptation group, depression and nicotine dependency were the predictors for smoking temptation for adolescent smokers and nicotine dependency and pros for smoking were the predictors for smoking temptation for adult smokers. In the low smoking temptation group, cons for smoking and process of change for smoking abstinence were the predictors on smoking temptation for adolescent smokers and self-efficacy for smoking abstention and pros for smoking were the predictors on smoking temptation for adult smokers. CONCLUSION: There were different influential variables on smoking temptation according to age groups and level of smoking temptation. Smoking-cessation interventions should be tailored to the level of smoking temptation of the individual smokers.

3.A Study on the Life Adjustment of Widowed Elderly Women in Korea: A Q-Methodological Approach.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2007;37(7):1098-1107
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the types of life adjustment of widowed elderly women in Korea. METHODS: The research design was a Q-Methodological Approach. Thirty selected Q-statements from 32 subjects were classified into a shape of normal distribution using a 7 point scale. The collected data was analyzed using a QUANL PC program. RESULTS: Three types of life adjustment were identified. Type I is the independent type: overcome the reality. Type II is the abandonment type: deny the reality. Type III is the accommodation type: accept the reality. CONCLUSION: The results of the study indicate that different approaches to the quality of life for widowed elderly women in Korea are recommended based on the three types of life adjustment.

4.Caregiver Burden in Caring for Elders Before and After Long-term Care Service in Korea.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2012;42(2):236-247
PURPOSE: Purposes of this study were: evaluation of family burden of caring for elders who receive long term care services, and examination of differences in burden before and after the introduction of long term care service in Korea. METHODS: Data were collected by questionnaires from 416 caregivers of elders who were registered with the Long Term Care Insurance Corporation in six cities. Data were collected in September, 2010 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and ANOVA with the Scheffe test, and stepwise multiple regression. RESULTS: Family burden decreased significantly after long-term care service was initiated. Subjective burden decreased from 2.93 to 2.69 (t=11.78, p<.001), and objective burden, from 3.40 to 3.10 (t=12.73, p<.001). Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that factors affecting subjective burden were family relations (F=13.60, p=.003), age (F=5.47, p=.019), job (F=6.98, p=.008), and education (F=4.59, p=.032), and that factors affecting objective burden were living together (F=17.66, p<.001), job (F=13.34, p=.003), monthly income (F=6.61, p=.010), and type of service (F=6.62, p=.010). CONCLUSION: The results of this first study to investigate caregiver burden after the Korean Long-term Care Insurance System was begun provide positive information for the development of strategies to decrease family burden in long term care.
