1.Advising IVF: assessing indications and treatment delays
Philippine Journal of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility 2005;2(2):85-
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is an established treatment approach for infertility based on the developments the past quarter century. However, there are still a number of reasons which prevent both doctors and patients from embarking on this available treatment option. The current indication for IVF (including endometriosis, tubal pathology, anovulation, male factor infertility-and unexplained infertility) are reviewed considering prognosis for pregnancy using IVF as compared to no/more conventional treatment. Evidence-based data are presented. Also, maternal age as a factor for success in IVF treatment is reviewed. Local setting situations which contribute to delays in treatment are also tackled.

6.Assisted reproductive technology in the local setting
Philippine Journal of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility 2005;2(2):51-53
Assisted reproduction is generally defined as infertility treatment in which both oocytes and sperm are handled in the laboratory and is commonly called as in vitro fertilization or test tube baby.

7.Management of fibroids prior to in-vitro fertilization
Philippine Journal of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility 2005;2(2):54-56
Fibroids may produce a complications during pregnancy. A miscarriage may result especially if implantation occurs over a submucosal fibroid. The evidence would suggest that removal of submucosal fibroids or intramural fibroids with intracavitary component would increase pregnancy rates. Such fibroids may be easily removed through hysteroscopy.

8.Live birth after intracytoplasmic sperm injection with cryopreserved sperm retrieved from urine in a case of complete retrograde ejaculation: A case report
Anna Katrina G. Purugganan ; Ma. Asuncion A. Fernandez
Philippine Journal of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility 2017;14(1):1-4
This is a case of a 37-year-old nulliparous woman, and her 53-year-old husband diagnosed
with complete retrograde ejaculation and absolute azoospermia, who conceived after transfer
of embryos fertilized using cryopreserved sperm retrieved from postejaculatory urine. Four
embryos were thawed, then transferred in the blastocyst stage, resulting in a singleton
pregnancy and delivery by cesarean section at term to a healthy baby boy weighing 3100 g.
This case study shows that cryopreservation of sperm retrieved from postejaculatory urine
is feasible for IVF, despite demonstration of low motility. This is more cost-effective and least
invasive as the husband may avoid surgical aspiration or extraction of sperm.
