1.The selection of sperm in intracytoplasmic sperm injection

Study on 50 cases treated by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) at Tu Du Hospital. There were 490 sperm injected oocytes. There wasn’t difference between fertilization rates of injected ovule with normal sperm and with abnormal sperm. The embryo development rate from fertilized oocytes is better if normal sperm were injected: 25.2% of normal sperm injected oocytes developed into good quality embryos, while none of embryos generated from oocytes injected with abnormal sperm is of good quality. The selection of sperm for ICSI plays an important role in getting high results in ICSI and this procedure should be complied sperm morphologic criteria recommended by WHO in order to improve the fertilization rate and embryo quality

2.The first clinical pregnancy from cryopreserved - thawed embryos in human in Vietnam

The application of embryo cryopreservation is now a routine feature of clinical ART programs. The cryopreservation of embryos following in vitro fertilization (IVF) provides numerous advantages to couples. The first advantage is that of further possibilities for conception in addition to those achieved from the fresh cycle. Secondly, the cryopreservation of embryos provides a method of storage of excess embryos, thus helping to alleviate pressures to transfer high numbers of embryos. Thirdly, embryo cryopreservation plays an important role to prevent severe ovarian hyperstimulation, thus allowing a delay of embryo transfer to a later cycle and diminished the severity of hyperstimulation. Excessive embryos with good quality can be stored at cleavage (4-8 cell) or at blastocyst stage. The success rate for using cryopreserved-thawed embryos was reported to be 4-20%. 3.Multiple Conjoined Oocytes In A Patient With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Undergoing In Vitro Fertilization.

Conjoined oocytes are characterized by a follicle containing two oocytes surrounded by a single zona pellucida or their fusion in a zonal region. Gonadotropin stimulation, coupled with PCOS, predisposes to the occurrence of conjoined oocytes. Although a result of developmental accident, conjoined oocytes have the potential to develop into genetically normal embryos and babies. In this paper, the authors describe the aspiration of multiple conjoined oocytes in a single IVF cycle, leading to normal fertilization after selective intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Development to blastocyst stage allowed trophectoderm biopsy resulting to a euploid embryo that was eventually transferred, and resulted to a live term birth.

4.300 cycles of sperm retrieval from the epididymis and the testis for the intracytoplasmic sperm injection

In this cross-sectional retrospective study, 300 cycles of sperm retrieval from the epididymis and the testis on 213 patients for the intracytoplasmic sperm injection at the Infertility Department of Tu Du Hospital from March 2003 to May 2004 were examined. The results showed that: 100% cycles with embryos and the pregnancy rate of 47.9%; there is no complication except a mild scrotal discomfort lasting a few days after open surgery; percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA) was the most performed retrieval technique (61%), which was easy-done, quickly-performed, safe and effective

5.The first Vietnamese baby born from intracytoplasmic sperm injection using testicular sperm from impaired spermatogenesis testes

The first Viet Nam baby born from intracytoplasmic sperm injection using testicular sperm from impaired spermatogenesis testes in 1/3/2004. There was approximately 50000 sperm after preparation, among them 20% was motile. From 12 retrieved oocytes, 11 were mature and therefore injected. Five oocytes fertilized and developed into 4 embryos. Embryo transfer was carried out for all 4 embryos. One embryo implanted and kept growing till the 37th week of pregnancy. 7.Diagnosis and treatment of male infertility in Binh Dan hospital

Management of male infertility is one of urological activities at Binh Dan hospital. Since last year some advanced techniques have been applying to practice: Measurement of testicle volume levels of FSH, LH, Testosterone and Prolactine, transurethral ultrasound, selective testis biopsy, per - operative vasogram, resection of the verumontanum and vassal microsurgical by pass. Therefore, we could effectively differentiate two groups of substructive and non-obstructive infertilities and hence, prognosis and treatment could be better made. 487 patients have been seen, 54% of these has shown a non-obstructive infertility, 19% of obstructive cases and 27% of indiopathic cases. 37% patients have been followed-up with spermiogram improvement in 43% of those patients, and pregnancy rate was 12%. Ejaculative duct obstruction is rare, but not difficult to be confirmed, and its treatment has been proved as a simple but effective treatment

8.Diagnosis and treatment for oligozoospermia in male infertility

Infertility is defined as the inability of a couple to conceive after having made attempts for 2 years. We conducted this study on 227 cases of male infertility. The results showed that 146 cases have oligospermia (the sperm count less than 20x106/mm3), 81 cases have asthenozoospermia. Our results in the treatment for asthenozoospermia with gonadotropine is very good, especially the therapy for Eumuch syndrome gets the best results

9.Intra cytoplasmic sperm injection using surgically recovered epididymal sperm for treating obstructive azoospermic men

From February to December 2002, 67 obstructive azoospermic cycles was undergone. Epididymal sperm were recovered and embryo replacement were performed in all cases. Clinical pregnancy rate was 39.1%. Extra sperm and extra good embryos were cryopreserved for future use. Two cases continue to the second procedure after fail in the first time 3 cases couldn’t have pregnancy use cryopreserved embryos. No case have 3 foetus up ward. The rate with one foetus is 70.4%, two foetus is 29.6%
