PURPOSE OF STUDY: To compare on bone formation between ovariectomized rats and normal rats after graft of alloplastic bone material. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Twenty female rats were used in this study. They were divided into two groups by each ten rats. One group was ovariectomized and grafted alloplastic bone material. Other group was non-ovariectomized and grafted alloplastic bone material. After a healing time of 4 weeks, the animals were sacrificed and decalcified preparations were routinely processed for histologic evaluations. RESULTS: Ovariectomy group was significantly lesser bone formation compared with non-ovariectomy group. CONCLUSIONS: Ovariectomy acts as a negative factor in new bone formation.

Ovarian remnant syndrome is a rare condition which develops when functional ovarian tissue is left in situ after intended bilateral oophorectomy. It produces clinically significant syndrome, namely chronic pelvic pain and dysmenorrhea. Although the true incidence of this syndrome is unknown, an apprant increase in incidence has been reported. We have experienced a case of ovarian remnant syndrome showing chronic pelvic pain and palpable abdominal mass after difficult gynecologic operation. So, we report this case with a brief review of literatures.

Journal of Veterinary Science 2018;19(6):862-864
An elective laparoscopic ovariectomy on a healthy dog revealed a cystic structure in the left ovary. The surgical procedure was successful. Histopathological examination showed the presence of a teratoma adjacent to the ovary. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case of an ovarian teratoma removed by laparoscopic ovariectomy in a dog by using a multiport laparoscopic ovariectomy technique.

PURPOSE: The research was done to investigate the effectiveness of 2D bony morphometry and microstructure of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) on the osteoporotic bony change. We performed the bone morphometric analysis of proximal femur in ovariectomized rabbits with BMD and micro-CT examination. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-one female (Newzealand, about 16 weeks old, 2.9-3.4 kg) rabbits were used. Three rabbits were sacrificed on the day when experiment began (Baseline). The remaining 18 rabbits were divided into two groups. One group was ovariectomized bilaterally (OVX) and the other animals were subjected to sham operation (Sham). Bone specimens were obtained from the right and left femur of sacrificed rabbits. At intervals of 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 months respectively, BMD tests were performed on the proximal femur by using PIXImus 2 (GE Lunar Co. USA), 2-dimensional bone morphometric analysis by custome computer program and 2D / 3D bone structure analysis by micro-CT (Skyscan1072, Antwerpen, Belgium). Statistical analysis was carried out for the correlation between bone morphometry , micro-CT and BMD RESULTS: BV/TV, Tb.Th, Tb.N of micro-CT parameters showed higher values in sham group than OVX group. N.Nd/Ar.RI, N.NdNd, N.NdTm, N. TmTm, PmB/Ar.RI, 3-D BoxSlope of 2D morphometric parameters showed higher values in Sham group than OVX group. The micro-CT parameters of Tb.Sp, Tb.N were statistically significant correlated with BMD respectively. Several 2D morphometric parameters were statistically significant correlated with BMD respectively. CONCLUSION: Several parameters of 2D bony morphometry and micro-CT showed effective aspects on the osteoporotic bony change.

8.EFFECTS OF THE ION BEAM ASSISTED DEPOSITION OF HYDROXYAPATITE ON OSSEOINTEGRATION OF THE ENDOSSEOUS IMPLANTS IN RABBIT TIBIAE.

The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 2000;38(5):659-674
A large increase in the use of thin film coating of hydroxyapatite(HA) in implant dentistry is driven by the desire to take advantage of the excellent biocompatibility and high strength of HA coating. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of HA-coated implants by Ion Beam Assisted Deposition(IBAD) method in comparison to the sand-blasted and machined surfaces. Osteoblast culture test, removal torque test and histomorphometric analysis were performed and the following results obtained; 1. Examination of the osteoblast cultures displayed no difference in the secretion of alkaline phosphatase between the various specimen, but IBAD with pure HA specimen showed low alkaline phosphatase secretion(p<0.05). 2. Removal torque tests showed HA-coated implants by IBAD method to be similar in high value to the implants with sand-blasted surface than the implants with machined surface. And the ovariectomized group showed low mechanical test value than the normal group(p<0.05). 3. Histomorphometrical comparisons were performed on undecalcified ground sections. HA-coated implants by IBAD method demonstrated the highest mean bone-to-metal contact ratio on all threads and 3-best consecutive threads, and the implants with sand-blasted surface and implants with machined surface was in the next consecutive order(p<0.05). HA-coated implants showed slightly higher bone-to- metal contact ratio than sand-blasted implants, but no statistically significant difference was obtained between the two materials. The ovariectomized group showed lower value of bone-to-metal contact ratio than the normal group, but no statistically significant difference was obtained between the two groups. 4. Evaluation of bone volume on all threads and 3-best consecutive threads showed no statistically significant difference among the different surface treatment groups, but showed lower bone volume in ovariectomized group than in the normal group(p<0.05). According to these results, thin film coated implants with HA showed high bone contact ratio, bone volume and removal torque strength in the short term, but long term observation is needed.

Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2005;48(2):495-499
Ovarian pregnancy is comparatively rare form of ectopic pregnancy. Although earlier diagnosis is now possible due to the availability of quantitative beta-hCG measurement and the development of transvaginal ultrasonograghy, it is mostly difficult to diagnosis before surgery, and frequently misdiagnosed as a ruptured corpus luteum accompanied with massive hemoperitoneum. Definite diagnosis is made only by cytopathologic examination of tissue specimen. The treatment of ovarian pregnancy has been operative management including oophorectomy, salpingo-oophorectomy and ovarian wedge resection. But recently conservative management using laparoscopic technique has become the preferred treatment. We have experienced a case of primary ovarian pregnancy and reviewed it briefly.
