1.Moderating effects of Professional Self-concept in Relationship between Workplace Bullying and Nursing Service Quality among Hospital Nurses

PURPOSE: To identify the effects of workplace bullying of hospital nurses on the quality of nursing service and to investigate the moderating effects of professional self-concept in the relationship between workplace bullying and quality of nursing service. METHODS: The participants in this study were 280 nurses working in hospitals located in J Province. Data were collected from December 20, 2016, to January 20, 2017. A self-administered structured questionnaire was used. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 22.0 statistical program. RESULTS: Workplace bullying had significant negative correlations with professional self-concept and nursing service quality. There was a significant positive correlation between professional self-concept and nursing service quality. Professional self-concept was the only variable to show a moderating effect in the relationship between the outcome of workplace bullying and quality of nursing service (β=−.12, p=.023). CONCLUSION: The findings from this study suggest building a systematic strategy to prevent workplace bullying at the organizational-level, where it threatens quality of nursing service and developing programs to promote professional self-concept, which can control the negative effect of workplace bullying.

2.The Implementation of Homecare Nursing Network System Using Wireless Network.

The purpose of this project is to implement "Homecare Nursing Network System" using wireless network which was able to manage homecare service efficiently. Therefore, by completing the project of "Homecare Nursing Network System", the research team connected the headquarter and the local homecare service offices over the Internet, and built the database and application programs to operate the offices. Homecare nurses are using the PDA(personal digital assistant) in order to provide homecare nursing service, to record the patients' data, and to send and receive the data in real time. It results in improving the quality of the homecare service through the computerized knowledge-based assess and intervention algorithms. The team also has implemented the homepage to introduce the homecare office and to provide the homecare service information. "Homecare Nursing Network System" allows us to manage homecare nursing service under the computerized environment, to keep track of the homecare nursing document efficiently, to improve the quality of homecare nursing, and to expand its business territory.

3.The Communication Styles and Nursing Service Satisfaction of Clinical Research Nurses Perceived by Clinical Subjects.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to examine the communication styles and nursing service satisfaction of clinical research nurses perceived by clinical subjects. METHODS: The data were collected with self-administrated questionnaires after receiving consents from 200 clinical trial subjects. The data were analysed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS 21.0 statistic program. RESULTS: Clinical subjects perceived that clinical research nurses used the informative, affective, and non-authoritative communication styles. The study identified factors influencing the nursing service satisfaction, and they were the informative communication styles (β=.34, p<.001) and affective communication styles (β=.35, p<.001, R2=37%) by multiple linear regression. CONCLUSION: If educational programs on communication are developed to help clinical research nurses use the informative and affective communication styles according to the characteristics of subjects and applied to the field of practice, they will be able to increase the nursing service satisfaction and contribute to the higher quality of clinical trials.

4.Relation of Gratitude Disposition, Organizational Intimacy and Organizational Well-being on Comprehensive Nursing Service Units of Nurses

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between gratitude disposition, organizational intimacy, and organizational well-being among nurses on comprehensive nursing service units. METHODS: This study was a descriptive correlation study. Participants were 150 nurses working in comprehensive nursing service units. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program. RESULTS: Gratitude disposition correlated positively with organizational intimacy (r=.53, p<.001) and organizational well-being (r=.59, p<.001). Gratitude disposition and organizational intimacy were factors affecting organizational well-being. CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggest organizational well-being can be increased by enhancing gratitude disposition and organizational intimacy. Further study is needed to develop and test for application, a gratitude and organizational intimacy promotion program for nurses on comprehensive nursing service units.

5.A Study on a Psychiatric Nurse's Mannerism Experiences.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the mannerism phenomenon, which psychiatric nurses experience in hospitals. METHODS: Colaizzi’s phenomenological research methodology was used to illuminate the meaning and nature of the experience inherent for nurses when they provide nursing service. RESULTS: Analysis of the data collected through interaction with the participants showed five theme clusters, as follows: ‘Losing passion’, ‘Becoming impassive mien’, ‘Watching and folding up one's mind’, ‘Assimilating into the situation’ and ‘Being aware of change to one’s existing style.’ CONCLUSION: The results of this study provide a description of the phenomenon of mannerism as described by the participants, and allow for identification of the nature of the meaning of the mannerism experience. Accordingly, the study findings provide psychiatric nurses an opportunity to meditate on the nature of nursing in high-quality nursing service for patients with mental illnesses. Further, medical authorities need to provide the opportunity for nurses to apply nursing intervention therapy as part of nursing service and establish an institutional, administrative system to make it possible for nurses to provide service.

6.Effects of Psychiatric Nurses' Secondary Traumatic Stress and Compassion Satisfaction on Burnout: The Moderating Effect of Social Support.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of secondary traumatic stress and compassion satisfaction on burnout in psychiatric nurses and the moderating effects of social support. METHODS: The participants were 214 psychiatric nurses from G city & C, G, J province. Data were collected from October 23 to November 6, 2015 and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, multiple regression analysis and moderated regression analysis. RESULTS: Secondary traumatic stress and compassion satisfaction had significant influence on burnout in psychiatric nurses. The explained variance for burnout was 67%. However, social support did not moderate the effect of secondary traumatic stress and compassion satisfaction on burnout. CONCLUSION: Findings indicate that burnout in psychiatric nurses may have a direct influence on their nursing services. There is a need to provide nursing intervention programs in order to prevent and alleviate burnout in psychiatric nurses by decreasing secondary traumatic stress and increasing compassion satisfaction.

7.A Validation Study of Nursing Diagnosis in Emergency Care Unit.

PURPOSE: Related factors for 24 nursing diagnoses frequently used in the emergency care unit were validated in this study. METHOD: A convenience sample of 65 registered nurses who had worked for 2 years or more in emergency care units and received instruction on nursing diagnosis was used for the study. The classification of nursing diagnoses was based on NANDA (1996) and validation, on Fehring (1987)'s DCV model. RESULT: Differences were found between emergency and general care units for related factors for nursing diagnosis. Newly reported related factors were not found for emergency care units. CONCLUSION: It is helpful for nurses who work in emergency care to be able to apply the nursing diagnosis validated in this study. These findings can be used as the database to provide a nursing diagnosis system appropriate to improving the emergency nursing practice.

8.Test on the Cost and Development on the Payment System of Home Health Care Nursing.

PURPOSE: This study focused on analysing costs per home health care nursing visit based on home health care nursing activities in medical institutes. METHOD: The data was collected in three stages. First, the cost elements of home health care nursing services were collected and 31 home care nurses participated. Second, the workload and caseload of home care nursing activities were measured by the Easley-Storfjell Instrument(1997). Third, the opinions on improving the home health care nursing reimbursement system were collected by a nation-wide mailing survey from a total of 125 home care agencies. RESULT: The cost of home health care nursing per visit was calculated as 50,626 won. This was composed of a basic visiting fee of 35,090 won (about 35 dollars) and travel fee of 15,536 won (about 15 dollars). The major problems of the home care nursing payment system were the low level of the cost per visit, no distinction between first visit and revisits, and the limitations in health insurance coverage for home health care nursing services. CONCLUSION: This study's results will contribute as a baseline for establishing policies for improvement of the home health care nursing cost and for applying a community-based visiting nursing service cost.

9.The Effects of Hospital Nurses' Self-Esteem and Communication Skill on Self-Leadership and the Quality of Nursing Service.

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of hospital nurses' self-leadership, communication skill, and self-esteem on the quality of nursing service. METHODS: The participants, 230 nurses working at a general hospital in Seoul, completed a cross-sectional descriptive questionnaire survey between January 17 and 28, 2014. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 19.0 program for descriptive statistics, t-test, one way & two way ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression analysis. RESULTS: Nurses' self-esteem and communication skill had significant main effects on self-leadership and the quality of nursing service, but the interaction effect of the two independent variables was not significant. Variables that significantly influenced the quality of nursing service were self-leadership, communication skill, self-esteem, and career longevity. The explanatory power of these variables for the quality of nursing service was 54.4%. CONCLUSION: Findings indicate a need for education programs for nurses which are designed to promote communication skill and enhance self-esteem and self-leadership skills which will in turn enhance the quality of nursing service.

10.Factors related to Self-leadership of Korean Clinical Nurses: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

PURPOSE: In this study a systematic review and meta-analysis was used to examine the variables related to self-leadership in Korean clinical nurses. METHODS: A search and screening of the literature uncovered, 49 related studies done between 2003 and 2016 were then reviewed. A meta-analysis of 44 studies from doctoral dissertations, master's thesis and published articles was also carried out. The correlational effect size (ESr) for each related variable was calculated. RESULTS: Sixty-nine related variables were identified from the systematic review. Twenty-three (5 personal, 13 professional and 5 organizational) variables were eligible for meta-analysis. The overall effect size was .47. The personal factors (ESr=.48) and the professional factors (ESr=.44) had larger effect size than the organizational factors (ESr=.28). Factors with the largest effect size among personal, professional and organizational factors were self-efficacy (ESr=.58), nursing service (ESr=.68) and supervisor's leadership (ESr=.36) respectively. CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that for Korean clinical nurses individual factors including personal or professional factors have a stronger impact on self-leadership than organizational factors. It is necessary to develop interventions and training programs which focus on improving self-efficacy to promote self-leadership in clinical nurses.
