2.Mediating Effects of Interpersonal Problems in the Relationship between Social Network Service Use Tendency and Depression among University Students

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study isto identify the mediating effects of interpersonal problems in the relationship between Social Network Service (SNS) use tendency and depression among university students. METHODS: Data were collected from April 28 to May 7, 2018 and the participants included 222 university students, who responded to the question regarding SNS use tendency, interpersonal problems and depression. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. RESULTS: A positive correlation is found between depression and SNS use tendency (r=.24, p<.001), and among interpersonal problems (r=.62, p<.001), SNS use tendency and interpersonal problems (r=.34, p<.001). Interpersonal problems have a full mediating effect on the relationship between SNS use tendency and depression (Sobel test: 5.24, p<.001). CONCLUSION: These results suggest that it is important to manage interpersonal problems to prevent depression caused by SNS use tendency.

3.Effects of a Stress-Management Program on Stress Coping Methods, Interpersonal Relations, and Quality of Life in Patients with Chronic Mental Illness.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a stress-management program on stress coping methods, interpersonal relations and quality of life in patients with chronic mental illness. METHODS: A nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was used for this quasi-experimental study. The study was conducted from May 1 to December 30, 2010. The 41 participants in this study were selected from patients with chronic mental illness (20 for the experimental group and 21 for the control group). Datas were analyzed chi2-test, t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANCOVA with the SPSS/WIN 15.0 program. RESULTS: There were significant changes in stress coping methods scores, interpersonal relations scores and quality of life scores in the experimental group before and after treatment, which were significantly different from those in the control group. CONCLUSION: The results of the study indicate that the stress-management program resulted in significant improvement in stress coping methods, interpersonal relations and quality of life for patients with chronic mental illness. Therefore, this study shows stress-management programs are useful in clinical practice as effective nursing interventions in patients with chronic mental illness.

4.Lesson with Students Generated Questions: Based on a Department of Health Science.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of student question-centered lessons for bi-directional faculty-student communication. METHODS: This study performed one-group pretest-posttest design; participants were university students majoring in health science (nursing 58, physical therapy 45) in city C. Data was collected and the program was conducted from March 3 to June 14, 2014. Measurements employed were the ARCS model of motivational design, self-assertiveness, learning satisfaction, and interpersonal relationship. Data was analyzed through frequency statistics, descriptive statistics, and repeated measurement of one-way analysis of variance with the SPSS 19.0 program. RESULTS: In this student question-centered lesson participants exhibited significant enhanced satisfaction in terms of learning motivation, learning satisfaction, self-assertiveness, behavioral assertiveness, general assertiveness, and sensibility regarding interpersonal relationships. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that student question-centered lessons are applicable to a variety of subjects. Also, for comparative purposes, a faculty-centered lesson will be undertaken.

5.Effects of Satisfaction with Social Support on Complicated Grief in Bereaved Dementia Caregivers.

BACKGROUND: While complicated grief can lead to adverse health outcomes, social support has been shown to be an important protective factor of its negative effects. The present study investigated the relationship between social support including satisfaction with support, received support, and negative interactions and complicated grief in the transitional context from caregiving to bereavement. METHODS: Bereaved caregivers (n=221) who participated in a multi-site study of dementia caregiving were assessed for complicated grief. Social support measured before and after death were used to examine the longitudinal associations among social support and complicated grief. RESULTS: We found that caregivers reporting greater increase in satisfaction with social support were likely to experience lower levels of complicated grief, while the amount of received social support did not significantly impact complicated grief. Negative social interaction was significantly associated with the level of complicated grief after the death of the care recipient. CONCLUSIONS: The relationship between social support and complicated grief suggests that satisfaction with social support may be associated with lower levels of complicated grief. Study findings point to the importance of the type of social support for reducing the level of complicated grief.

7.A Concept Analysis of Assertiveness.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze and clarify the meaning of the concept, assertiveness. METHOD: This study used Walker and Avant's process of concept analysis. RESULTS: 1. Attributes of assertiveness were defined as 1) Self-esteem 2) Comprehension to others 3) Clarification of the subject 4) Verbal communication 5) Non-verbal communication 2. The antecedents of assertiveness consist of these facts 1) The occurrence of a conflict situation 2) The occurrence of will to stick to one's opinions 3. There are consequences occuring as a result of assertiveness 1) Positive self-confidence 2) Increased comprehension or consideration to others 3) Expand of mutual respect 4) Maintenance of continuously cooperative relationship with each other 5) Output of acceptable results to each other. CONCLUSION: Assertiveness is a core human behavior and is key to interpersonal relationships. Using the components of the concept of assertiveness, many conflicts in a nursing situation can be effectively prevented.

8.Effects of Korean Enneagram Program on the Ego-identity, Interpersonal Relationship, and Self-leadership of Nursing College Students.

PURPOSE: This study was done to identify the effects of the Korean Enneagram program on college nursing students' ego-identity, interpersonal relationships and self-leadership. METHODS: A nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was used. Twenty-nine students were in the experimental group receiving the Korean Enneagram program, and 28 were in the control group with no treatment. RESULTS: 'The experimental group will show higher scores for ego-identity (t=3.97, p<.001), interpersonal relationship (t=3.26, p=.002) and self-leadership (t=2.91, p=.007) compared to the control group 8 weeks after the program finished' was supported by significant differences in the scores between the two groups. CONCLUSION: The findings indicate that the Korean Enneagram Program has a significant effect on improving ego-identity, interpersonal skills and self-leadership in nursing college students and the program can be used as a tool to promote the ego-identity, interpersonal skills and self-leadership of nursing students.

9.The Relationship between the Level of I-conscousness We-consciousness and Interpersonal Problems of Korean Medical Students.

PURPOSE: In Korea, students should have the consciousness of 'I' and 'we' to adapt well in society. Medical students in Korea must develop interpersonal and intrapersonal characteristics that are in accordance with Korean culture. This study intends to determine the relationship between the level of I-consciousness/we-consciousness and interpersonal problems in medical students. METHODS: The I-consciousness/we-consciousness Inventory and the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems were used for 212 first year medical students and 191 second year medical students at Yonsei University College of Medicine in 2008. RESULTS: The levels of I-consciousness/we-consciousness and interpersonal problems in medical students were higher than those of other general college students. There was a significant inverse correlation between the level of I-consciousness/we-consciousness and interpersonal problems for 118 of 130 factors. The higher the level of I-consciousness/we-consciousness in medical students is, the fewer interpersonal problems there are. CONCLUSION: Educational programs that take into account the consciousness of 'I' and 'we' are useful for the development of medical students' personalities.
