  • Description【Journal Overview (Aims & Scope)】 Global Health Journal (GHJ) is an open access, multidisciplinary journal that covers all fields of global health, an area for study, research, and practice which places a priority on improving health and achieving equity in health for all people worldwide. It publishes peer-reviewed research papers including various aspects of health research, such as Epidemiology, Global health governance and health assistance, Health system and policy, Health economics, Global health practice, Human resource in health, Population health, Environmental health, Ageing and health care, Maternal and child health, Global health education. Global health emphasizes transnational health issues, determinants, and solutions; involves many disciplines within and beyond the health sciences; promotes interdisciplinary collaboration. 【Filling the gap】 While the exchanges of global health research can bring the mankind significant global benefits, there is a limitation in academic outlets for such dissemination of study findings and innovative ideas. GHJ fills the gap of English academic journals on global health with the official seal of approval by Chinese authorities which has its global health implication. Furthermore, China’s experiences in disease prevention and medical care are internationally underrepresented and deserve a wider dissemination to provide lessons to the world in regard to the realization of "building a health community of a shared future for mankind". 【Strong society supports】 GHJ is an academic journal sponsored by People's Medical Publishing House Co., Ltd. (PMPH), which is a first-ranked institution and leading health science publisher in China with a 70-year history of editing and publishing medical journals. PMPH represents specialization, modernization and internationalization, and has been awarded almost 800 honours for both the company and products. PMPH has established close relationship with well-known international publishers, quite a large number of excellent medical books has been translated into Chinese and published in China, and meanwhile, PMPH’s excellent works have been translated into other languages and sold all around the world. In addition, PMPH is the only WHO Collaborating Centre for Health Information and publishing. PMPH has organized a few symposiums and meeting by engaging members in GHJ editorial board to increase journal exposure and recognition, which have also provided opportunities and platforms to researchers in the field. 【Cooperation with renowned organizations】 GHJ publishes in conjunction with top-ranking home and aboard societies, organizations, universities, research institute, such as special issue on Dynamics, Impact, and Prevention of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic with University of Florida & Duke University, special issue “Global Perspectives on Air Pollution Impact Assessment and Risk Management” with Institute for Global Health and Development of Peking University and University of Oxford. GHJ also Co-hosted international academic conference “The Belt and Road Initiative Global Health International Congress” with Asia Pacific Clinical Nutrition Society, Global Health Institute of Xi’an Jiaotong University and Chinese Consortium of Universities for Global Health. 【Content is king】 GHJ is particularly concerned with those topics impacting on the whole world, such as the targets of the sustainable development goals and universal health coverage, health security and international health regulations, non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, communicable and neglected tropical diseases, vaccines and essential medicines, substance abuse and tobacco control, sexual and reproductive health, essential medicines and vaccines, health system strengthening and integration, health financing and the health workforce. Also, GHJ has recruited a number of high-quality special issues from reputable authors to increase journal impact. GHJ plan to launch special issues on topics like Reproductive Health for Global Women, Emerging Environmental Health Challenges and Perspectives in Low- and Middle-income Countries, Global Health Aid for Poverty Alleviation. 【Competitive editorial board】 GHJ attracts a professional editorial board of real top scholars and leaders from the global health community worldwide, with editorial board member geographic diversity rate of over 50%. The editor-in-chief Liming Lee was awarded Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (HonFFPH) in 2010, and Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences (IEAS) in 2017. And deputy editor professor Lin Lu was Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Xinguang Chen from University of Florida has secured a total of ~$29 million research funding as PI, Co-I and Co-I for 60+ grants and contract, and produced 300+ peer-reviewed publications on topics related to global health (h-index=49). Distinguished Research Professor Roger Detels of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases from UCLA, who has received awards from the governments of Thailand, Cambodia and China for his contributions to training and research in their countries. 【Outstanding data performance】 The download data of the journal has increased significantly during the last few months. The average monthly downloads were over 18,000 in 2020 and the journal has received over 22,000 downloads in 2021. Overall, GHJ has progressed rapidly during a very short period with a strong financial foundation, a very competitive editorial board, and a highly efficient editorial office despite strong competition from other global health-related journals in the field. With its unique position and the potential for an outstanding scientific English journal based in China, GHJ will become an indispensable international platform for academic exchange by the experts, practitioners, decision-makers, researchers in the field of global health. All those superiority and characteristics showcase an extremely valuable contribution to the global health academic community as has been seen through its strength and growth.
