  • DescriptionThe Korean Journal of Obesity is an official, peer-reviewed research journal published by the Korean Society for the Study of Obesity. The prevalence of obesity has been dramatically increased due to the sedentary life style. Obesity is a major risk factor for various metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. The aim of Korean Journal of Obesity is for the better understanding, prevention and treatment of obesity to improve the lives of those affected and thereby to reduce the incidence of obesity-related metabolic disorders. We desire to contribute to the cure and education of obesity through the sharing of scientific information on the latest developments in obesity among members of the Korean Society for the Study of Obesity and other international societies. The journal publishes articles covering all aspects of obesity, in particular epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis, treatment, and the prevention of obesity. The articles of the Journal include research papers on basic and clinical medicine of obesity and obesity-related diseases, as well as the specific applications of biochemistry, physiology, genetics, and metabolic study. Nutritional, exercise, psychological and epidemiological aspects are also included in the studies. We think that solving the problems of obesity must be accompanied by various aspects of social problems. Therefore, the most important characteristic of this journal is that dietitians, sports curers, psychiatrists, psychologists, nutritional and sport scientists as well as endocrinologist and internists can participate in this journal. Especially, we are focusing on the characteristic of obesity in Asians, because people in Asia are less obese but vulnerable to develop obesity related metabolic complications. Therefore, we will try to clarify the differential ethnic characteristics of obesity. The types of articles published include original articles, editorials, case reports, reviews, short communications, letters to the editor, and medical essays.
