- Abstract: Recent advance in perinatal care resulted in improved survival of very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. However, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is still one of major complications of VLBW infants. Four decades have passed since BPD was described for the first time in 1967. Since then epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and pathophysiology of BPD have changed markedly. In this article, We reviewed the recent progress in research for epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and pathophysiology of BPD.
