- Abstract: Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by monkeypox virus infection. This disease primarily occurs in tropical rainforest regions of central and western Africa, and is occasionally exported to other regions. Since May 2022, multinational monkeypox outbreak has become the largest monkeypox outbreak in history outside Africa. This review summarizes progress in the etiology, epidemiology, laboratory detection, clinical diagnosis and treatment of monkeypox.
