- Abstract: Midurethral slings (MUS) are widely accepted for the surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in cases where conservative treatment has failed. They have been shown to be a safe and effective surgical treatment for the management of SUI. However, there have recently been growing concerns regarding the safety profile of mesh procedures, generating international debate and leading to national inquiries into the effectiveness and safety of mesh implants. A multitude of clinical, technical, manufacturer-related, and other health jurisdictional factors are involved in the outcomes of MUS. Appropriate patient selection and informed consent to all treatment options, with proper guidance from healthcare providers, are critical for empowering women to choose an appropriate treatment option based on a personalized decision.
