Efficacy of Peibao capsules combined with letrozole in the treatment of ovulatory infertility and its effect on serum sex hormone level

Abstract:
Objective:To investigate the efficacy of Peibao capsules combined with letrozole in the treatment of ovulatory infertility and its effects on serum sex hormone levels. Methods:Sixty patients with ovulatory infertility who received treatment in Taizhou Cancer Hospital from January 2017 to December 2019 were included in this study. They were randomly assigned to receive treatment with either letrozole (control group, n = 30) or Peibao capsules combined with letrozole (observation group, n = 30) starting at the 5 th day of the menstrual cycle for 5 days, totally 3 menstrual cycles. Before and after treatment, dominant follicle diameter, endometrial thickness, ovarian artery resistance index and pulsatility index, serum sex hormone level, ovulation rate and pregnancy rate were compared between the control and observation groups. Results:After treatment, dominant follicle diameter and endometrial thickness in the observation group were (18.41 ± 0.54) mm and (8.79 ± 0.56) mm, respectively, which were significantly greater than those in the control group [(17.79 ± 0.47) mm and (7.82 ± 0.62) mm, t = 4.744 and 6.359, both P < 0.05]. After treatment, ovarian arterial resistance index and pulsatility index in the observation group were 0.97 ± 0.13 and 0.56 ± 0.04, respectively, which were significantly lower than those in the control group [1.08 ± 0.10 and 0.65 ± 0.04, t = 3.674, 8.714, both P < 0.05]. After treatment, serum progesterone, estradiol and luteinizing hormone in the observation group were (0.93 ± 0.14) μg/L, (75.41 ± 6.29) ng/L and (9.47 ± 0.61) IU/L, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the control group [(0.78 ± 0.12) μg/L, (58.23 ± 5.46) ng/L and (8.18 ± 0.65) IU/L, t = 4.456, 11.297, 7.926, all P < 0.05]. Ovulation rate and pregnancy rate in the observation group were 60.00% (18/30) and 46.67% (14/30), respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the control group [33.33% (10/30) and 23.33% (7/30), χ 2 = 4.286, 3.897, both P < 0.05). Conclusion:Peibao capsules combined with letrozole is highly effective in the treatment of ovulatory infertility. It can improve patient's serum sex hormone level, promote ovulation, and increase pregnancy rate.
